Restricted Youtube Videos

Sometimes on Youtube a message states that a video has been blocked from your country for copyright reasons, if someone from a country can view the video then enbeds it onto other forums will that video always be blocked from restricted countries no matter where its posted on the internet, thanks.

Undertoad 11-19-2010 09:32 AM

Yes, embedding doesn't change the copyright management of the video.

footfootfoot 11-19-2010 09:48 AM

But can someone from a country can view the video use keepvid or one of the others to download that video to their drive, then upload it again? Or does the restriction follow the country of origin and not the content. The someone from a country can view the video would have to email it in that case?

TOPSY/TURVY 11-20-2010 03:40 AM

Thanks guys, I often wondered about that.

Your welcome.
Oh, and welcome to the Cellar too. :D

I'm pretty sure that YouTube has software to detect content no matter where it appears. I'm pretty sure they don't let us in on that technology. I'm somewhat sure that the new trend of people taping their TV screen and then uploading that is one way around the software.

I think you are right. There was a TED lecture by one of the Youtube people talking about how they are able to scan (probably similar to TinEye) videos to detect copyrighted content. http://www.ted.com/talks/margaret_st...copyright.html

Digital rights ecosystem... blah blah blah. The good news is that at the end of the day SONY still managed to make a hijillion dollars by doing next to nothing and letting other people do their advertising for them. So that's cool.

This was originally banned from youtube at its release.

Sundae 11-28-2010 07:46 AM

Embedding disabled for that one...

yeah, but you can click on the link provided by youtube redirecting you to youtube to watch it

xoxoxoBruce 11-28-2010 09:25 AM

I get, "Contains content from UMG, and not available in your country".

TOPSY/TURVY 11-28-2010 09:59 AM

Thanks guys, I can watch them posted videos okay. British copyright laws are getting reviewed to allow more copyright material onto the internet.

skysidhe 11-28-2010 10:08 AM

You can watch it on Vimeo. I watched it on the Huffington Post.
I had to sign into YouTube, and then click a button verifying I was over 18 yrs.

Ok, so if I am underage, I can watch it someplace else or just lie and hit the play button.

I have seen some video games and movies much more graphic than that.
I think the message would have been better delivered if the ending was at the beginning. The beginning was a little vague. When I see an armored truck I think of bank deposits.

Sundae 11-28-2010 11:19 AM

Hmmmm.
It's good fun and all that, but I really don't get what it's about.

Is it terrorism is good and shouldn't be suppressed?
Or simply that people should not be hunted by soldiers for sport? (I'm not sure anyone would disagree with that)

Don't show IRA-style images to convince me someone is unfairly discriminated against please. That's like showing the two towers burning in a pro-Islam video.

No, this actually shedding some light on the Tamil situation in India and Sri Lanka.
But then again, who gives a shit about the Tamils, right?
So instead, she uses a minority like red heads in the USA....you see? bring it a little closer to home, and then see what people think.
Should this kind of genocide be allowed in this day and age?

Sundae 11-28-2010 11:38 AM

I've been to Sri Lanka and have Sri Lankan friends.
Without your response I wouldn't have got the connection.
And having lived in a country that suffered terrorism for a long time, personally I don't think it works.

suffered or is suffering?

Sundae 11-28-2010 02:17 PM

Suffered. Extremeist Islam has nothing on Catholics.

classicman 11-28-2010 03:00 PM

Catholics? as in all Catholics??? What utter bullshit. If you had said
"Extremeist Islam has nothing on extremist Catholics."
I would have remained silent, but wow. What a frickin stupid comment.

Sundae 11-28-2010 03:29 PM

Whatever.
My whole family are Catholics, and I lived through the Atrocities.

I probably should have written Extremist Christians/ Catholics but I thought that at least went without saying, whereas many people still believe that every Muslim is a terrorist.

classicman 11-28-2010 05:13 PM

yeh ok - Whatever.

W.HI.P 11-29-2010 12:18 AM

perhaps this link will work for those who can't view it on youtube:

skysidhe 11-29-2010 10:38 AM

Sorry WHIP. I should have posted some url's too.
http://vimeo.com/11219730

I enjoyed reading the comments and the reaction that it got. Vimeo is showing 100 of 781 comments on the first page. Only one person toward the bottom of the page mentioned Sri Lanka.
