Gravdigr 11-20-2010 04:24 PM

I was eighteen in 1986. I could've been any one of those dumbasses.

J.D.DIAMOND 11-20-2010 06:05 PM

I was 16 in 1986,Judas Priest was and is my favorite band but I never hung out in trendy crowds like that,it was too cheesey.

lol! Yeah "trendy". A lot of those heavy metal "fans" dropped bands like Judas Priest,Iron Maiden,Saxon,Dio for glam hair bands like Motley Crue,Poison,Ratt and Bon jovi....

And then when that trend was over those same fans went to bands like Nirvana,Sound Garden,Peral Jam,Alice In Chains....then to Metllica Load,ect....what ever is "in" at the time ....they flock to like sheep. I've never been a part of a trend like this. It cracks me up haha.

Rob Halford - Judas Priest

There is nobody that is better than that guy.

Gravdigr 11-22-2010 01:06 AM

Ooooooooh, I wouldn't go that far.

:D

lol! Its my opinion of course, but he is the Metal God in the realm of heavy metal music, this guy is responsible for the NWOBHM scene because of his aesthetics alone, and along with Priest's british heavy metal sound especially by 1978's Hell Bent For Leather album, and although Black Sabbath started heavy metal's sound structure with doomsday laden lyrics, nobody came before Judas Priest that supported these aesthetics that played heavy metal music, only punk and rock bands like Alice Cooper and Gene Simmons of Kiss,ect...

And most of all Halford's vocals, this guy is utterly amazing.Halford's image sparked influence in bands like Venom,Slayer,Mercyful Fate and Celtic Frost as well as bands like Saxon and Iron Maiden.Judas Priest are the Godfathers of heavy metal.

Undertoad 11-22-2010 07:59 AM

I'm just glad that I didn't know what he was gay when he screamed "get down on your knees and repent if you please"

I took it as a pretty metal statement at the time, but now, I don't know! :D

LOL! This is what cracks me up about fans of Rob Halford: How could you not know he was gay?? lol!

Come on dude, back in the 80's he wore the gay biker hat, hand cuffs and a whip lol! And to set the record straight,no the lyrics are not about homosexuality(lmao! haha!)

I've been a Judas Priest fan and have studied this band since 1980,say and think what you want, but no,they are not about that,K.K.Downing and Glenn Tipton write the lyrics with Rob and they have gone over this subject till they were blue in the face,so no they lyrics do not translate into anything "gay". lol!

Undertoad 11-22-2010 03:40 PM

Hell we didn't know Freddy Mercury was gay, what with the gaystache and the wife-beaters and all. We didn't even know Elton John was gay, what with the pink feather boas and 10,000 different glasses. It just wasn't a thing, back in the day.

No your right it wasn't back in the day,but when I was 10 years old in 1980 getting into Judas Priest I thought Halford was gay,and all of us thought Freddy was obviously gay back in the early 80's,especially Freddy and Elton john....it was pretty obvious to me and others, but since they didn't say anything about it we could only guess,it doesn't matter to me if they are gay or straight,I could care less but just thought it was clearly obvious but at the same time as you said it wasn't an issue so I see your point.

Undertoad 11-22-2010 05:24 PM

Hell he even named the band Queen and lots of us still missed it

I'm like 6 years older than you so there it goes. A lot of people were totally in the closet, in 1985 only half of my gay friends in college were out of the closet. And I was in theater so there were a lot of them.

I understand your point, yeah your right. Going back to Halford,I remember when he came out in 97' and everybody already knew and didn't care ha. I also have seen fans that liked Judas Priest but when they found out Halford was gay they stopped listening to them. That puzzles me.

I pretty much assumed he was gay since I started listening to Judas Priest in 1980 when I was 10,but even if I hadn't and found out I still wouldn't care ....its about the music,as you know Undertoad.

Undertoad 11-22-2010 07:47 PM

I still like Priest, and Queen, the first ten years of Elton, REM, the Smiths, kd lang, etc. etc.

SAXON - 2009

Are there any "Saxon" fans out here? Saxon are a traditional classic british heavy metal band from England, along with Judas Priest and Iron Maiden they helped forge heavy metal in the early 80's.

Not sure how to post a youtube clip, other sites I'm used to has a "source" where you post the video....If I can learn how to do it,I'll post a live video of Saxon.

They are the most underrated heavy metal band in the world in my opinion, they are so much better than Iron Maiden these days and actually have been for the last 15 years, and 7 studio albums.

Gravdigr 11-23-2010 03:31 PM

I used to dig Saxon back in the day...

Very interesting to hear Gravdigr, albums of the 80's like 1979 debut album 'Saxon" and the classic 1980 "Wheels Of Steel" album then Strong Arm Of The Law,Denim & Leather,Power & The Glory....these 5 studio albums from the 80's were classics but to alot of Saxon fans the now-a-days current Saxon is so much better in song writting and consistant quality albums. Give 2004's "Lionheart" a listen and if you like Saxon this album is the band's best work, also listen to 2007's "The Inner Sanctum"....total classic Saxon at thier very best.

Absolutely. To me Rob Halford is the best vocalist in heavy metal hands down, but its still an opinion but Priest has been my favorite band since 1981 so of course I'm going to say he is #1,but he really is! lol! I've never cared if he was gay either.

I've been a member of the Judas Priest forum for 6 years now,the people over there are very cool and discuss anything and everything.

I wasn't thrilled about thier last album "Nostradamus"(2008) as I don't like it at all,but the album before it "Angel Of Retribution"(2005) is very good,10 songs and only one really sucks, and its the last track on the album(Loch Ness).

But if you haven't heard the album, its very traditional Judas Priest in the vien of 1982's Screaming For Vengeance album and 1984's Defenders Of The Faith album, thats the best way to discribe it. Tracks like Judas Rising,Deal With The Devil,Wheels Of Fire,Demonizer,Hellrider,Elegy...its very good if you like Judas Priest.

Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Olsen on The Little House on the Prairie, put out a memoir earlier this year. Her dad was the personal assistant to Liberace for many years. Apparently they took her to see Liberace's show and meet him when she was about 9. They warned her to not say anything about him being gay because it was a big secret. (her reaction: you're kidding, right? I'm 9 and I figured it out without anybody telling me.)

Sundae 11-26-2010 02:29 PM

One of my oldest friends toured with Saxon in the last few years.
Yup, they're still touring.

I couldn't tell you when or where - he's a professional PA and from the amount of work he gets I assume a bloody good one. I might even have been to see them at his invire - I stand behind the mixing desk until my head hurts then wait for him to finish!

That is too cool. The fans that live especially in England are very lucky because Saxon tours many shows in England where they came from, but they do not tour here in the U.S.A. very much at all,the last tour 2009 they played 4 shows here and the rest were basically in Europe. I wish they would tour and open up for Motorhead, they always do it in England every tour so why not open up for Lemmy and co. ? That would be aswome,a Motorhead/Saxon tour.
