NFL FOOTBALL
Are there any NFL Football fans here? I've been a fan since I was 6 years old(1976). My favorite team is the Cleveland Browns, yah I know they suck but they are my favorite.

Thats cool. I see that all of your link-posts are from last season. What are your thoughts about "this" season? Any Super Bowl picks this early? |

Patriots win and move to 8-2 this season. Can Tom Brady get to play in a 5th Super Bowl, and if the Patriots win he will join Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana with 4 Super Bowl rings.#16 is the best QB to ever play the game...wonder if anybody else is a Montana fan...Joe rules lol!:thumb2:

Welcome J.D.
To answer your question nicely, yes, there are a few football fans here. Joe Montana was one of the absolute best. His mastery of the position is still amazing. His accuracy and timing were also keys to his success, but it didn't hurt to have some guy named Jerry Rice to throw to either. Oh and that guy coaching ... he wasn't so bad either. They all worked together and made each other better IMO. I'm an eagles fan, so I don't have much to say about winning championships - the last time the Eagles won I wasn't even alive. |
shawnee is a big Montana fan. She wants to have his babies.

Yebbut she's gone. I enjoyed the pool you ran, LJ.

Second, yes I agree that Montana had some all stars like Rice,Talor,Craig,Rathman, not to mention thier defense. Joe to me is still the best even with the team he had,but there are many other greats too. John Elway winning 2 back to back Super Bowls and playing in 5 of them was very impressive. And yeah I think the last Eagle's Championship was in 1960 but I'd have to google it to make sure. |

Yeah bill Walsh was very impressive, his west coast offense was almost unstoppable. And yeah they had a weak division, but still I saw Montana hit targets when he had to like no other QB. |
no doubt about it.

ClassicMan those video clips are awsome! I do agree that there are QBs that are like Joe Montana,Johnny Unitas,Bart Starr,Terry Bradshaw,Roger Staubach,John Elway...but Joe to me is the very best of the best, but its an opinion, not a fact. Joe is surely equal to any QB that has ever played thats for sure.

You'd have to be watching football at a very large distance to consider Brady amongst names like Peyton Manning and Joe Montana.
Counting rings without watching the game, or considering the OL that's protecting the qb is kind of ignorant, and i'm getting sick of people reading headlines off newspapers in order to state their opinions. Regarding this season, predictions are usually made before the pre-season, based on the roster's and coaches of each team. Predictions at this time is making it very easy on yourself as you can exclude other teams who are not in the running that you otherwise would have chosen. I've been an Eagles fan my whole life, but i can admit, despite the good showing, that i am less of an eagles fan this season, than i've ever been. For me, its only about the money at this point. I find myself watching very closely, and not cheering at all, regardless of how much money is on the line. It results in clarity. AFC To make it to the superbowl, you really have to have a defense....that is what history has shown us. The New England Patriots do not have a good defense in any way shape or form. The Patriots attack, when compared per unit to Patriots teams of the previous years, is without doubt, weaker, and lacking pieces. The Patriots cannot stop other teams from scoring against them, which leaves very small room for error. We've seen how bad Brady can be at times this season....the chances of the Patriots making it through the play-offs given all the angles, is very slim. The Jets on the other hand, do have a defense, and a young qb who i rank much higher than tom, despite the lack of rings. On a negative note, the Jets could just as easily have a 5-5 record as opposed to the 8-2 record they now hold....so don't be too deceived. The Ravens and the Steelers are clearly the two greatest defensive forces in the AFC, and on any given day, can take out all teams mentioned above and below. I'd have to give the edge the Ravens, who are better equipped on both sides of the ball. I would not be surprised to see the Ravens in the AFC final. The Indianapolis Colts are slowly but surely falling apart as each year passes, but they still have arguably the greatest quarter back in the history of the game. The tools aren't quite there anymore, but given the lack of really good team in their way, they very well could make it to the AFC final again. The Jacksonville Jaguars are most likely NOT going to make the play-offs, due to the very tough program that awaits them. 4 of their last 6 games are away against highly competitive teams. However, should they make the play-offs, by either winning this division, or even squeaking in as a wild card team, they are capable of winning this superbowl. Maurice Jones-Drew is the greatest weapon at running back in the nfl at this point in time. The power and stamina that he has is exactly what is needed to win a superbowl. He's the kind of tool that keeps Peyton Manning and Tom Brady watching from the sidelines. He's the kind of guy, that when it comes down to it, can ware a defense like the ravens and Steelers have. Its a long shot, but if you're a betting man, the price is right and the team is capable. 1 other team will come out of the afc west ....most likely the chargers or the raiders.... if its the chargers, and both rivers and gates are healthy, i can't see why they won't be able to outscore ANY of the above teams and cruise into the superbowl game. If its the raiders, they'll be the heavy underdogs that i will be betting on to take out a superior team. The Raiders are well rounded, with trick plays they've been practising all year in closed training sessions, that they have yet to translate onto the field....they must be saving them for something. NFC The Atlanta Falcons have the best record in the NFL, and remain alone on top of the standings in the NFC. The Falcons attack is the most fierce in the nfl with the running game of turner, QB Ryan is outstanding, and white is amongst the 3 best wr's in the game today. The one thing the falcons lack is a defense which is clearly under par. However, the type of attack that the falcons run, can allow this under par defense to at least be well rested on the sidelines. If there is a team in the nfl that can win a superbowl without a defense, the Falcons are that team. If you're looking for a defensive team in the nfl, look no further than the Chicago Bears, who have been the elite in the game over the past decade. This particular season, the combination of Peppers and Ullracher is a total shutdown of any running game any team has to throw at them, not to mention the amazing ability of pass rush that peppers brings. The attack is no worse than it was when the bears made the superbowl, if anything, its arguably better. The Chicago Bears are clearly superbowl material this year. As i said, i'm an Eagles fan, but i'm not buying it. Other than the running ability of the qb, and our speedy desean, i can't say the team is any better than the Clevland browns. I may begin to cheer if by some miracle we make it to the superbowl, but until then, i will be betting against my highly overated team. The Giants have a pretty good pass-rush, and Eli has some options. Its the lack of running game that has me troubled a little bit, unless Jacobs snaps out of it.... I can't eliminate the Giants from my projections, so consider them a dark-horse. The Packers and the Bucs do not trouble me in the least for various reasons. Wouldn't it be funny to see the Rams in the play-offs with home field advantage? ...they are clearly a better team than the seahawks, but are a couple years away from truly being competitive imo. |
cowboys!
|
but but but - did you watch the videos? They're super keen!
|
W.HI.P I totally agree with you. I never said that Tom Brady will make it to the Super Bowl,I was just wondering "if he can make it".
I do however consider Tom Brady just as good as Peyton Manning and I'm not counting rings and I've watched almost every game the Patriots have played for the last 10years,so I do agree that they are not the best team this year. However the Falcons may be the best team in the NFC,but they are tied with the AFC Jets and Patriots at 8-2 so they don't have the best record, unless you go into division wins ect... I just hope that the Steelers don't make it to the Super Bowl,I freaking hate the Pittsburgh Steelrs with a passion,I can't stand Rothlisburger, although I admit he is good. |
classicman, yes, i watched....i also watched Joe in real time, and it is why i rank him as high as Peyton Manning.....best 2 Qb's of all time.
Quote:
Winning the superbowl does not necessarily make you the best team in football. Another view-point, a QB winning the AFC or NFC, or even the superbowl, does not necessarily rank you in the top 20 QB's for the season.....example: QB:Grossman for the nfc champion chicago Bears. I don't think anyone can argue that there were at least 20 QB's in the game by far superior to him. My argument in regards to tom brady, is i don't believe he's ever truly been a top 3 qb for any season he's ever played. Give props to his elite OL who gives him time to boil water, let the teabag soak, and take a sip between the snap and release. Substitute Brady with any of 30 active qb's over the past 10 years on the Patriots attack, and you would be discussing that name amongst legends as you do with Brady today. Brady is above par at best. So, i've kinda shared my projections in detail about this season, does anyone else care to put their balls out for display? |

I've heard so many people say the same thing about Joe Montana, that he was an average player with a good/great team. But I still agree with alot that you are saying, you seem to know alot about football, that makes it fun to discuss things. I also agree about Peyton Manning,he is my favorite QB of this era,but boy did he choke in last January's Super Bowl or what? I was stunned to watch him throw that last pick, although it may have been Reggie Wayne's fault,I think he slipped, none the less it was a let down. What are your thoughts on Jim Kelly? I know he didn't win any of the 4 stright Super Bowls he lead the Bills to,but man was he excellent or what? At least to me he was,I hated him back in the day because he/they beat every team I liked lol! But he is a championship calibur QB in my eyes. |
I'll give you my top 10 of all time:
10)John Elway 9)Terry Bradshaw 8)Jim Kelly 7)Troy Aikman 6)Johny Unitas 5)Otto Graham 4)Joe Theismann 3)Dan Marino 2)Joe Montana 1)Peyton Manning and, my top 10 active qb's 10)Aaron Rogers 9)Tom Brady 8)Eli Manning 7)Mark Sanchez 6)Mathew Stafford 5)Sam Bradford 4)Matt Ryan 3)Phillip Rivers 2)Drew Brees 1)Peyton Manning |
Quote:
Hope you don't get mad if I would list Joe Montana ahead of Peyton Manning? lol! Yeah Peyton is right there with Joe,he really is the best QB that has played since Montana thats for sure. Yeah Otto Graham man, that guy was awsome, the best thing that ever happened to the Cleveland Browns. Hey,should we be putting slingin' Sammy Baugh in the list too? He was awsome with the Washington Redskins wasn't he or what? |
No Steve Young?
|
I'm not sure there's room for another redskin on the board.
Highlight redskin seasons would be around 82-83, where they the dominant team in the NFL in my eyes. Regarding Young? I watched it unfold very closely. That thing that he did with the niners, was not his thing really, was it? I didn't see him build that, he was just very close to it, and kinda benefited from one the greatest attacks this game has ever seen, that in fact, on a qb level, was manufactured by Montana. This was still Montana's team and game that Young picked up. Sure, i'll rank Young somewhere in the top 25, but i've got a few guys in mind that are not on that list that i would definitely rank higher than Young. |
Steve Young and Troy Aikman reminded me of these guys:
http://www.freeg1wallpaperblog.com/imgs/132.jpg like they were cut from the same cloth |
Quote:
The 49ers were just plain lucky to have 2 QBs that were as good as Montana and Young. W.HI.P had mentioned that in his opinion the Patriots could of replaced Brady with any 30 active QBs over the last 10 years and they would be basically just as successful as Tom Brady. I have heard this with Joe Montana too,and although yes Steve Young did win a Super Bowl,he was NOWHERE near greatness that was Joe Montana. I feel the same way about Tom Brady and Troy Aikman, sure another great QB could win with the chesmistry of the team, just like Matt Cassel did with the Patroiots when Brady went down,he got them to an 11-5 record, but still was nowhere near the skill level of Brady, and I doubt that he could guide the Patriots to 4 Super Bowl appearances with 3 Super bowl wins, just like I don't think that another QB back in the 80's could of taken the 49ers to 4 Super Bowls let alone win all 4 of them. But we all have opinions and its very interesting to read each one, there is NO arguments here, just the opposite, its fun to discuss. |
Michael Vick threw his first interception of the year. And it was my Bears that intercepted it! Yay!
Ya dog-fighting bastidge. ETA: Oh, and the Titans got shut out at home for the first ever, I believe. Ahhhhh, today was a good day. |
I might've known somebody would have to die for da Bears to win one.
|
this week I won a 6 pack of Mad Elf beer on the cowboys +13 pts ( I made the bet while they were down 17) and then a bottle of vodka on the Bears (double or nothing bet on the previous win)
I think I'll quit while I'm ahead. and drunk. |
Favre retires for the seventeenth time
Well, he has promised to retire seventeen times, anyway. This time, folks, he really means it. Stick a fork in him, he's done!
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-done-im-done/ There was a comment on this article which is just too good not to point out. In this paragraph: “I remember the same question, the first part of the year, everyone said, ‘Well, ….’ I said, ‘Time will tell,’ but like I said, I’m done,” Favre said via the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “I’d love to, as I said when I came back I’m here to win a Super Bowl, we had big expecations, it hasn’t gone the way we hoped up to this point, but again, my career speaks for itself. I think it’s been a great career. I don’t know how the remaining games will unfold but that’s it.” When he says "I" or "my" it has a positive spin but he reverts to "we" when he talks about how badly things have gone. (I came here to win a Super Bowl. It hasn't gone the way we hoped.) No one cares, Brett Wolfcry. (That's his Native American name. I just made it up.) Go home. |
kind of Ironic that you came out of retirement to post this, huh? ;)
|
Don't ya think? :p:
Now, where are my millions? |
Quote:
Of course, you were probably drunk when you made the bet. Must be, to think the Cowboys could pull something out of the hole like that. Good thing you're lucky. |
HUGE game coming up next week that should pretty much determine which team makes the play-offs.
Indianapolis colts vs Jacksonville Jaguars If the Jaguars win, they'll be a serious contender for this Superbowl. I don't see why they can't win this game. Maurice Jones Drew should be able to run down this (Weak against the run) defense, and keep Peyton watching from the sidelines. I will be placing quite a bit of money on this game as i'm sure the spread will not be small. |
Also Eagles @ Giants next week to determine NFC East superiority
|
Quote:
We're both Eagles fans UT, but i do not agree with the way the team is being run at the moment. There's like this interior battle going on as to what direction the team is going in. For me, it would be better if they just sacrificed a year or two at the bottom as opposed to trying to win it all with a team that's not capable. Perhaps since the team is learning around Vick, Cam Newton may be a target in the 2012 draft. |
The defense is not really Jim Johnson-quality. But Vick is a unique talent, not only as a running QB but he also throws very very few INTs. The team is averaging .5 INTs per game.
|
Is Cam Newton really the sure thing he's advertised as? (I haven't seen him play.)
|
Quote:
The answer is YES! More than you think. A lot of people would tell you that Vick is the absolute best rushing quarterbacks of all time. Newton puts Vick to shame. There is no doubt whatsoever, that Cam Newton, is by far, the best rushing QB of all time....and he hasn't even gotten started yet. Believe |
I just love me some Peyton. Go Colts.
And speaking of Peytons...that Hillis for Cleveland is amazing! |
Well the New England Patriots are kicking the crap out of the Chicago Bears at Chicago 36 - o in the 3rd quarter so far. Man it looks like The Patriots will be the team to beat in the ACF this year, and Atlanta in the NFC.
The Patriots making it to the Super bowl is not a given, but so far it looks as if it will be a hard task to beat New England in New England come playoffs...who can beat them? Definately not Jacksonville thats for sure but stranger things have happened ha! I'm thinking a New England Atlanta Super Bowl that would kick ass. |
you shouldn't be guided by such games at this point in the season, lol.
True Superbowl contenders are resting their players, avoiding injury, while other teams are calculating their draft picks. lol@Patriots |

Defense is key, and yeah, you'd have to be fearing the Steelers more than you'd fear the Patriots at this point in time.
Ben is a huge factor, and he's certainly earned my respect. Being a hater of a team is as blinding as being a fan of a team. Cheering for or against, is a huge cloud if you want to see things clearly. Money is my objective. Huge prices are key in profit. Example: The Jacksonville Jaguars, when i gave them, paid quite the penny....and right now, they're in a position where a win against the Colts this weekend will see them with 2 feet in the play-offs at home. I pointed them out last year as a team that was more than capable of making the play-offs, but had chosen to draft(Lose on purpose). A dominant, high stamina running back complimented by an above par attack and defense are the ingredients needed to win it all. Quote:
Being correct on one 110/1 shot is greater gain then being correct on 50 straight 2/1 wins in a row. Like Jay-z says in "Hard Knock Life" ...i put my money on the long shots. To find the long shots in N.American sports, it doesn't take much, due to the draft system. Teams do sacrifice years, even potentially great years for drafting purposes. I guess you have to be an insider to truly see whats going on within the franchises. |
The Steelers are a bunch of slack-jaws, always have been, always will be. Ben is the newest King of the Slack-jaws. [/trash talk]
:bolt: |
Defense is key, and yeah, you'd have to be fearing the Steelers more than you'd fear the Patriots at this point in time.
True, but even though I'm not sold on the Patriots, the Steelers are dreading playing up in New England in the playoffs after the pounding they took from the Patriots at Pittsburgh a month ago. And I take back what I said about the Jaguars, they are definately capable of rolling through the playoffs on the road and make it to the Super Bowl, they are not the favorite but are capable yes. Even though I think the Jags will win I'll be pulling for Manning on Sunday haha! If the Patriots can win 2 out of the last 3 games then they will wrap up home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. 2 games at New England will be tough for any team, especially if the Patriots get ontop early but as I said,I've seen too much football in my time to make any predictions this early. If I had to pick 2 teams that don't have to be the best but are playing the best football right now I'd still have to say New England and Atlanta. |
If the was objective was money, you really couldn't go with the 2 teams that are leading the afc and nfc a few weeks before the play-offs start.
If you wanted to make some money there, you would have had to have bet on the falcons before the start of the season. My entries here are based on profit. At the end of the year. the profits are made from the high paying bets won(25, 33, 50, 67, 110 times your money) not the small paying bets won....they are, in the end, a waste of time. |
Quote:
The Giants pass rushers are gonna go after him like there's no tomorrow. If they get to him early, he's gonna be forced to throw under pressure which will certainly result in a pick or two. If Vick eludes the pass rush, he'll be looking at a career game in rushing yards. The Giants are gonna score, so its just a matter of whether or not it'll be a blow out, or a close game. In the Jaguars - Colts game, I project 120-170 net yards for Maurice Jones drew, which should eat up about a full quarter of the game. In games where the Jaguars faced an under par run defense, Garrard has had a very very high passer rating, as the defense is almost always with 8 men in the box. Peyton should do well in this game, which should make it interesting. If half the red zone visits end in field goals, we'll be looking at an easy Jaguars win, otherwise, it'll be a thriller. |
would you sign Michael Vick as a spokesperson?
|
In the Jaguars - Colts game, I project 120-170 net yards for Maurice Jones drew, which should eat up about a full quarter of the game. Wow who would of thought that Maurice Jones Drew would only end up with "46" rushing yards total? Jeeze. 2 games left and if the Patriots win one out of 2 games they will wrap up home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. I'm sure they will win 1 out of 2 games but I'm not sold on them automatically winning both playoff games, but it sure will be tough to beat the Patriots at New England this January. |
Man I'd go as far as saying now that if there are NO INJURIES the New England Patriots WILL represent the AFC in the Super Bowl,I don't think they will lose the divisonal or the AFC Championship game both played in New England.
Tom Brady will be the 2nd QB to play in 5 Super Bowls,John Elway being the other. Them winning the Super Bowl is a whole different story but I'm saying they will be there no question. |
I can see NE sustaining some injuries if they meet the Ravens followed by the Steelers despite the special enforcement of rules. Right now as a football fan (and a Steelers fan), I'd like to see a Green Bay/Pittsburgh SB.
|
Considering the utter failure on the part of the Chiefs yesterday, I don't think they're going to be so much as a speed bump to the Ravens on their way to a possible Pats matchup.
|
Quote:
How about the Seattle Seahawks 7-9 winning the weak NFC west division? HA! They really should change the playoff format,I think the Bucs and Giants deserve a playoff spot at 10-6 rather than a 7-9 team winning a division but thats the rules and the Hawks are hosting the defending Super bowl Champion Saints and are going to get thier feathers ruffled! HA! |
I want to see Colts and Saints in Da Bowl. You never know...
|
Long term money on the Falcons and the Bears.
|
Marshawn Lynch runs for 67 yards knocking the Super Bowl Champs out of the playoffs HA!!! Seattle will lose next round but at least they took out the Saints on thier way. YEAH!

But damn the Seahawks deserved that win. They played great football. I only made it to halftime of the Colts but yeah, they lost too. Apparently I missed the last seconds show. Philly got beat tonight, and my brother informs me that we needed Baltimore for the win against the Chiefs because the Ravens have a much better chance of beating the Steelers. I love the playoffs! |
