Quick question about teeth and standards of beauty (possibly mildly nsfw)

One of the forum communities I frequent is a gaming site. There is a thread on there called The Hot Girl thread. In it, unsurprisingly, there are pics of hot girls.

One of the guys posted some pics of a model called Reon Kadena. Most were quite saucy, but i one of the pics she reminded me quite a lot of my eldest niece. Meels isn't asian so her eyes aren't as almond shaped, but Reon's colouring and something about her really reminded me of Meels.

So, I mentioned this, and after the various calls for 'pics', one of the regulars posted this:

Quote:

That would explain her horribly jacked up teeth. She has a British dentist:P

I don't care how hot a girls body is, if her teeth are as messed up as Reon's its a compete turn off and not going to happen for me
Now, I am well aware that British have different notions when it comes to teeth than Americans. But I still am struggling to see this girl's smile as 'fucked up', which is how he later describes it:

Quote:

Lol. It would take a lot of Jack. My problem with girls and their teeth is that girls talk a lot. A LOT! That is what they do, talk talk talk talk talk. So I'm looking at their mouth a lot and if they have fucked up teeth it is just going to annoy the fuck out of me the whole time and that will be the only thing I am thinking about rather than listening to what they are talking about and saying to myself... "WTF is she going on and on about?" or "Can I fuck her with out thinking about those teeth?"
Here are two of the pics of Reon: one which shows her with her mouth closed, and one that shows her awful, awful smile.

What i want to know, from the American guys in particular is: does this girl's smile count as a dental carcrash to you? Is it just my British sensibilities that make me think that this guy is being waaaay too critical of a minor flaw? Are her teeth bad enough to warrant a bottle of Jack Daniels just to get through the act?

classicman 01-03-2011 10:27 PM

What teeth?

The guys a dickhole without a life or a girl on a gaming site.
Need I say more?

Bullitt 01-03-2011 10:27 PM

Minor flaw, too critical. That said, as an American male I too focus on a woman's teeth and I cannot find a woman attractive if her teeth are not at least in decent shape. My two main things are more gum than tooth when she smiles, or a big gap between the two front teeth.

monster 01-03-2011 10:29 PM

Bit of both. Not everyone here gets their teeth fixed. but everyone who poses for professional photos does. And pretty much everyone who doesn't live in a trailer park or ghetto. So they do rather stand out, even though they're not really fucked up. But seriously, if he's let those teeth put him off a shag, he's gay and looking for any excuse.

Clodfobble 01-03-2011 11:52 PM

Like monster said: noticeable, and surprising to see on a model. But certainly not enough to detract from the rest. A lot of models nowadays actually do the "one minor but noticeable flaw" thing, popularized by Cindy Crawford in the 80s with her face mole (though of course the concept of "beauty marks" had gone in and out of fashion before then.) Padma Lakshmi's got a 7-inch scar going down one arm, and she frankly wears it as a mark of pride.

Sperlock 01-04-2011 12:04 AM

I have no problem with her teeth. I rarely find teeth that bother me all that much. I definitely wouldn't kick her out bed. ;)

zippyt 01-04-2011 12:09 AM

I haveNo Problem with her teeth , as Long as she doesnt bite !!!

I love that Terry Thomas gap. :p:

Gravdigr 01-04-2011 03:16 AM

I have looked and studied, studied and looked, thought and pondered, and pondered and thought...and I can't find a damn thing wrong with her breasts.

Gravdigr 01-04-2011 03:18 AM

She has a little bit of the Jewel thing going on, but I wouldn't say she--who am I kidding, I wouldn't be able to say anything.

Crooked, yes. Jacked up, no. Americans are obbsessed with getting braces on teeth that are not straight, if you can afford them. Most everyone in the US gets their "Wisdom teeth" out at some time in their late teens or early 20's, because they are the ones that crowd the front teeth and cause the look the girl has in the pic. If you have insurance, or care to pay for it, most of us also get our teeth cleaned professionally every 6 months or so. I did not do that until I got married because to this day I hate going to the fucking dentist. For anything. When I was little I use to throw up in the dentist chair every time I went.

glatt 01-04-2011 08:16 AM

Her teeth are pretty bad for a model. But for a real person, she's beautiful, and the teeth are a minor flaw.

Undertoad 01-04-2011 08:21 AM

Fark used to post this at times like these

http://cellar.org/2010/sharpknees.jpg

TheMercenary 01-04-2011 08:33 AM

Heh. I have not looked at Fark in a long time. I will have to revisit.

Trilby 01-04-2011 08:56 AM

she's completely beautiful and I see nothing wrong with her teeth (and mine are completely straight thru fluke of genes not dentistry) - I think her teeth are charming. Like Kirsten Dunst.

footfootfoot 01-04-2011 09:13 AM

I am not a teeth fetishist, but there is always something that is a dealbreaker for anyone. SWMBO went to school with a guy who said that if a woman had small breasts, she might as well not even have a head. That is clearly his trip, not a general matter of fact.

I've done some teeth retouching in photoshop and have seen that a lot of personality and character is lost (sometimes for the better) when teeth are fixed.

My dentist has a before and after set of photos of peopple who've had cosmetic dentistry done. In 90% of the photos the people look about 25-50 IQ points higher in the after photos. There is always one person who has work done needlessly (due to some mental problems) and those people don't usually look better.

That said, there is nothing wrong with the girl in those pictures as far as I can see.

DanaC 01-04-2011 09:39 AM

Thanks for the responses. I completely get that we all have our own deal breakers, and crooked teeth are clearly his deal breaker...

I was curious more because I know that as a Brit I have a different orientation to these things. I hadn't even noticed her teeth til it was pointed out.

My niece has gorgeous teeth apart from a small gap between her two front teeth. It's tiny, and kind of pretty: bit like that Sookie Stackhouse chick's front teeth. She's really self conscious about it. I, and the rest of the family have been telliing her she looks beautiful and the iny gap just adds to that. After the conversation over on the MO forums, I was wondering if we were steering her wrong ;P

footfootfoot 01-04-2011 10:11 AM

Gap-toothed I was, and that became me well:
I had the print of Saintè Venus' seal.

As help me God, I was a lusty one,
And fair, and rich, and young, and well begone;

And truly, as mine husbands toldè me,
I had the bestè quoniam might be,

For certès I am all Venerian
In feeling, and my heart is Martian;
Venus me gave my lust and likerousness,

And Mars gave me my sturdy hardiness.
Mine áscendent was Taur, and Mars therein

This.

If she were ugly, she'd be called trailer trash or ghetto (which are nice terms, aren't they?) Nice tits and face makes up for a whole lot of "deficiencies", even a deficient personality. ("WHAT teeth? I don't see me no teeth.") Throw some tape over her mouth and do your business. :eyebrow:

She's probably a lovely girl. I don't think her teeth detract from her much, but if I saw those teeth on an overweight girl with greasy hair and a moustache, I'd certainly look at it differently. And so would most of you.

You may now resume looking at everything but her teeth.

Ten years ago I bet I wouldn't have noticed either. But it does rather stand out from this side of the pond and the decade.

casimendocina 01-06-2011 05:05 AM

Let's look at the other side of things. What do women have to say about men with a gap between their front teeth?

DanaC 01-06-2011 08:07 AM

Can't say as I've ever thought about it really...

As long as teeth are clean I don't much care if they're a little uneven.

Shawnee123 01-06-2011 08:28 AM

As long as he doesn't spit on the sidewalk or out his pick-up window, I don't really care. Like Dana said: clean.

I think about people asking other people things like "would you still love me if all my teeth were rotted out?" and the answer, for me, would be "you wouldn't be the same person if all your teeth were rotted out, because 'this' person brushes his teeth and 'that' person obviously doesn't." :)

Sundae 01-06-2011 08:57 AM

I'm British. I simply don't focus on teeth.
Two of my ex's had pretty bad teeth (due to childhood neglect). Both had them fixed - one before and one after we were current. I was pleased for them, but it made no difference to their attractiveness in my eyes.

I mean I'm not talking Shane McGowen here... But I did once fall for a man with a slight gap and a chipped front tooth (from opening beer bottles - one of my first little gifts to him was a bottle opener to fit on his keyring).

I cannot abide a man with bad breath though. I was once getting closer and closer to a customer in the pub I worked in. I was really drawn to him. We went on a date and snogged for the first time and I could never see him again after that. I think he was a bit confused, because I'd flirted with him shamelessly and we had such great conversations. But his breath literally smelled of poo. Even the next morning I could smell it on my upper lip, like someone had given me a Dirty Sanchez. Grim.

monster 01-06-2011 09:38 AM

Didn't you tell him?

Juniper 01-06-2011 12:01 PM

Dang, maybe I need to find me a British dude.

Do they have different standards for muffin tops too, by chance? :D

Shawnee123 01-06-2011 12:12 PM

Nah, but they call them crumpet tops. :D

I was 19 and thought I had the whole world to find my perfect man in.
It just revolted me so much that I decided I couldn't deal with it and cut him off.

As shallow as a friend of mine who ditched a guy after their first shag because he had a penis like a mushroom.
I don't think she discussed it with him either...

glatt 01-06-2011 01:01 PM

portobello, or button?

Sundae 01-06-2011 01:17 PM

I didn't ask!

Stormieweather 01-06-2011 01:35 PM

Mushroom.

As in circumcised?

Shawnee123 01-06-2011 02:15 PM

There was talk of "cutting him off" so I would guess yes.

Might have been a bit shortsighted to dump him if it was of the magic variety.

Quite likely. We call it "crack mouth" in health care. And his are much better than most.
