phone upgrade

Time for my new every 2.

I HATE my phone: Motorola Krave. Worst. Touch. Screen. Ever. This was verified by Mr Verizon Kiosk Boy.

So I want one that comes free or for about 20 bucks with my current plan.

HELP!

Droid 2

Droid Incredible

Crackberry Bold

Crackberry Curve

HTC Ozone

Any suggestions, ideas? I mostly use my phone for texting, and want the QWERTY keyboard (not a virtual one, that's mostly the reason I hate my Krave.)

Verizon will pretty much give you any phone free if you threaten to leave them.

Shawnee123 01-24-2011 12:01 PM

Really? Hmmmm...then what is the BEST one of all?

I'm totally clueless on phones.

plthijinx 01-24-2011 12:19 PM

Crackberry? CRACKBERRY? BWAHAHAHAHA!
whew i needed that laugh!

from my experience at the go-kart track from a durability standpoint:
phones fall out on the track and get run over regularly. of the above phones you mention....i have yet to see *ahem* a crackberry (that cracks me up!) get destroyed. i have one of the old crackberries and aside from the trackball taking a crap...it's not bad.

Shawnee123 01-24-2011 12:20 PM

I think I stole "crackberry" from wolf. :)

Crackberry's universal.

My friend really likes her droid. I dunno what type it is. But it cracks me up when it shouts "DROID" when she gets a text.

I'm digging my new work crackberry. I wish I could tell you that I did all the research and figured out which of the existing phones out there are best, but they just handed me my new phone. I had no input in selecting it.

It's a Torch 9800, and it's my first touchscreen phone. The touchscreen keyboard is hard to use, and I use the slide out keyboard instead. Tiny buttons though and I often hit the wrong key.

Overall I like the thing though.

I just got an LG Optimus S.
http://common5.ziffdavisinternet.com...=279418,00.jpg
LOVE IT

It does magic. Android system is really cool. google everything is cool, swype keying is cool, voice to text is extra cool. camera is good. only neg is there is no LED flash.
best part is that it was free with my new Sprint contract. (eta: looks like it's $49 after rebates now)

If you can, you should jump to Sprint, actually. before they raise the rate $10.(jan 30th effective)

You totally know you want a Pomegranate

Shawnee123 01-24-2011 01:58 PM

That looks like a high tech maxi-pad.

Ended up getting a Droid 2.

Hope I don't regret it.

@ jim: I've been pretty happy with verizon, as far as any cell company can make you happy. It's all too much money, but what do you do?

glatt 01-24-2011 02:21 PM

You're not one to agonize for a long time about decisions, are you. What was that, like 2 hours?

jimhelm 01-24-2011 02:23 PM

I don't know, but I got rid of my landline years ago, and recently offed the cable internet. this phone is good enough to run cellar chat...and i can speak my posts into it. pretty slick.

Shawnee123 01-24-2011 02:25 PM

That's something I've been thinking about dropping: cable and internet. I don't know where else I could cut much more. I mean, I can read and have lived without TV before, and this new phone might do better with the web. That might be a good idea.

I haven't had a landline in years either.

jimhelm 01-24-2011 02:29 PM

I expect your new droid will have mobile hotspot capability. I can run my phone like a wireless router and hook up up to 5 devices at once. (so I can take my laptop out into the woods and still hook up to the web!) Slow, but it works. If you get 4g, it might be fine in that capacity.

Shawnee123 01-24-2011 02:31 PM

So, I'll be able to access the interwebz when I'm in the woods burying hobos? Sweet! To the cloud!

Griff 01-24-2011 04:17 PM

Because I watched the football game live yesterday, I saw an iphone commercial. It made me very anxious and not in a good way. I think I'm becoming technophobic. I've also successfully kept computers out of my classroom so far despite my administrators passion for them. I can't quite make this jibe with my cellar love.

Shawnee123 01-24-2011 05:17 PM

I'm going to show my ignorance a little more: what exactly is Android?

Happy Monkey 01-24-2011 05:27 PM

An operating system for smartphones.

Shawnee123 01-26-2011 07:43 AM

Thanks HM.

OK, got my new phone. So far I like it! Amazing how much bigger the screen is, and the slide-out keyboard is the shit!

Might take me years to figure it all out.

I urge caution with this plan. Depending on your terms of service, it could be ... painful.

And I, in turn, stole it from someone else. The term, not my Crackberry.

I love my Bold. I'm current trying to decide about my own phone upgrade, Crackberry Torch (slider) vs. iPhone. Or Android. Whatever it is, I have to be able to get a Kindle app for it.

jimhelm 01-27-2011 11:16 AM

the term crackberry is well entrenched. there is a forum called crackberry dot com that has lots of tips and tricks and hacks for blackberries of all kind.

I am fond of Android and also in the process of deciding on a new phone. I have T-Mobile, and my phone is an HTC G1. It is one of the first that they put android on (so the phone itself has been a little flakey.) I keep getting tempted with those Windows phones and their big ass screens, but I want the wide selection of apps that android has...plus I don't totally trust Windows with their cell phone OS. Right now, I am considering a Samsung phone. But I want the huge ass screen!

I use to hear crackberry a few years ago when I noticed more people getting them. I think I still call them that when they come up in conversation.
