What's with new people starting new threads simply to announce their presence????

It happens from time to time. Pretty standard on many sites.

Boring as all shit, though, if you're going to go to the effort of starting a new thread to announce your arrival, at least tell us something about yourself. We can tell you're new by your post count. We're that smart.

And I don't like being obliged to do it on other forums either. Especially as I doubt 99% of the other posters read it anyway, just those friendless enough to hang around saying Hi to every noob that drifts through.

My Cellar experience has ruined me for other websites...

Maybe, but there's actually a site when you can go and see if an IP address belongs to a known forum spammer. I checked this person before approving the posts and they weren't listed.

Nope. To be fair though, we didn't have fancy "threads" back during the big bang. We communicated outside time and space and liked it better that way.
I guess we wait and see.

I seem to recall doing a little intro thread. But it was, if I am remembering aright, after I;d already jumped into a couple of ongoing threads.

That tends to be my MO generally on boards. I get dragged in through some ongoing discussion or other and then I'll post a hello if it looks like I might be sticking around.
