Alcohol and percocet/vicodin

How do you feel about mixing?

Poll to come

infinite monkey 05-20-2011 02:07 PM

They gave me vicodin when my arm was split in half (well, it was in a cast) and vicodin SUCKS. It didn't do a goddam thing unless I drank some beers with it.

I've never had percocet, so I don't know.

footfootfoot 05-20-2011 02:11 PM

All that shit is laced with acetaminophen, it will give your liver a workout especially in combination with booze. It's fucked up that they put the acetaminophen in there.

glatt 05-20-2011 02:16 PM

The one time I took it, the room wouldn't stop spinning. It sucked. I stopped taking them and just dealt with the pain. Much better. Maybe if I drank booze too it would have been better.

morethanpretty 05-20-2011 02:30 PM

The vicodin I'm on after my surgery doesn't seem all that strong. It did help, but the pain was still just tolerable. Thats probably a good thing that it didn't completely dope me up and I was able to be in control of myself. I still wouldn't want to mix it with alcohol even if I was in worse pain, I think I would call the doc and just tell them I needed something else.

infinite monkey 05-20-2011 02:40 PM

[myoldbuddyamy]Meh. Those labels? They're just suggestions. [/andmydad]

lookout123 05-20-2011 02:55 PM

I've been given Vicodin quite a few times and I just don't bother anymore. It doesn't relieve the pain any better than a handful of advil and it leaves me with a horrific headache. No thanks.

Trilby 05-20-2011 03:17 PM

Percs are waaaaaaaay better than vicodin. IF you MUST take vic, get the DAW. Generics seem to vary widely in quality, esp. when it comes to pain meds (and, baby, I know my pain meds)

Gravdigr 05-20-2011 03:30 PM

Back in the day: Tylox and a beer. Bzzzzzzz.

Now a daze: Fuckabunchgoddamnedpills.

A xanax, very infrequently, to knock me out when I'm tired of not sleeping.

Griff 05-20-2011 03:51 PM

That would be such a bad idea for me.

footfootfoot 05-20-2011 03:51 PM

Very informative chart comparing various painkillers. YMMV

HEY EVERYONE HAVE A NICE RAPTURE.

If it falls through, then just have a nice weekend.

DanaC 05-20-2011 05:33 PM

We don't get vicodin over here, even under a different name, so I had to do a bit of googling. Turns out our equivalent is Co-dydramol, or solpadeine. The latter of those is available over the counter.

I've definately drunk whilst on co-dydramol. Can't say as I noticed any difference to drinking ordinarily. But since I was also smoking ... who knows?

Yeah, Tylox used to be a very nice drug. I wonder what happened to it?

Don't care for vicodin. It upsets my stomach too much.

Big Sarge 05-20-2011 07:31 PM

i think tylox is a brand name for an oxycodone/acetaminophen mixture. in other words, its percocet. might be wrong, but i worked a few diversion cases involving it in the past

I don't mind you experimenting with drugs, but your experiments were poorly designed.

Big Sarge 05-20-2011 07:34 PM

you can get hydrocodeone with ibuprofen instead of acetaminophen. easier on your liver

Pico and ME 05-20-2011 08:17 PM

I generally run around with a bunch of little aches and pains (mostly in my neck and shoulders)...usually they are just on the edge of my consciousness. Sometimes, though, they can get me really tense and cranky, so I might then take half a 5mg hydrocodone and 20 minutes later I'm all relaxed and cheery. I call them my happy pills. If I had real pain, however, like a 7 or higher, they wouldn't work. I would need a 10mg oxy for that. Thankfully its been a long, long time since I've had real pain.

When I was younger, I might have mixed pills with booze, but nowadays I'm just not interested in that kind of high. A glass or two of wine is all I need.

monster 05-20-2011 08:32 PM

Hate painkillers, love booze, never mix :)

busterb 05-20-2011 09:36 PM

VA gave me some hydrocodeone w/tynol for my back last week. I took 1 after a few beers. Wierd dreams all night. No more for me. Plus I'm not sure my liver can take it.

bluecuracao 05-20-2011 09:48 PM

I've mixed beer with valium, and CVS-brand cold tablets with wine...but that was ages ago. I'd be too afraid of some internal organ seizing up to do it now.

Aliantha 05-20-2011 10:18 PM

I've used pain killers and alcohol in an effort to self medicate in the past. I generally avoid it these days, although once in a while I do it still. It's usually got to be a really bad day though.

Hmmm...I'm wondering what that says about me.

Bullitt 05-20-2011 10:38 PM

Don't do it. Find other, less dangerous and harmful ways to manage pain.

Aliantha 05-21-2011 03:21 AM

Well, first of all, I actually don't do that sort of thing when I'm in physical pain - ironically because I worry that it might be harmful, and secondly I don't do to the same extent now. It was mostly during the period after my Mum died. That was 6 yrs ago now. Sometimes now I'll just take something to help me sleep, and sometimes that happens to be after I've had a few drinks. I don't set out to obliviate (is that a word?) myself anymore, so I guess that's good.

Yes, it's a spell. You must have learned it at Hogwarts.

Spexxvet 05-21-2011 08:07 AM

There are times when pain meds don't touch my pain. Add alcohol and they seem to be much more effective. And it does make me feel all wonderful inside.

Aliantha 05-21-2011 08:07 AM

ooooh...cool. lol

footfootfoot 05-21-2011 02:32 PM

Much oblived.

casimendocina 05-21-2011 11:52 PM

Couldn't sleep last night and thought about taking something, but what I've found is that if I do, it knocks me out for the whole of the next day and I feel crap and achieve nothing. At least this way, even if I got up late, I'm on the brink of starting to feel human and may be able to do something useful today.

Got a chuckle from this post I serendipitously found the other day.
