ADK Vaca
We just spent a week in a yurt on St Regis lake. I am feeling much more centered than I was. We paddled/carried a lot, read a lot, and played a new board game with the girls. We stayed with Jim and Lynn Cameron. Jim builds traditional guide boats. He showed me around his shop. There was a really old boat in for serious work. I think he said he has done 8 repair jobs this year. The shaky business climate cost him three new builds that were on the calendar, so he's making due with repair work until things heat up. He feels like he has flooded the lake with boats so he's looking to sell further away. His shop is pretty simply equipped but set up perfectly for what he is doing.
We were right across the lake from Topridge which was originally built by a member of the Post family, but is now a corporate retreat for Harlan Crowe a Texas real estate dude. July is the big month for them but fortunately they're on Texas time so the potatoes er tubers don't get out until noon or so. Paul Smith's College is on the same body of water and is on Lil' Griff's list for the Fall of 2014. So we have time on that one. Tons of pictures taken but not gone over yet, so I'll post some later. |

Here are three shots of the new Topridge boathouse.

I could get behind some of that, except that it is dangerously close to camping ...
What new board game did you play with the girls? |
Small World Its a goofy Risk type game without the time commitment.
|
I love the boat house!
|
Those pics and that place are spectacular!
|
I can't imagine what that boathouse cost to build, it's incredible.
|
I don't care what that boathouse cost to build, it's awesome!
I would have been happy to live in that yurt (in summer conditions), but then I saw the boathouse. I love stone, I love wood, and I really love the use of (what look like) real natural trees as supports. Quality, location, lifestyle ... Okay I'm off daydreaming now. |
Total agreement with everyone else about the boathouse being incredible.
