The joystick for my Vic20 really was. It was an early 'Quickshot'. Outlived the computer by about a decade :p

That name is a lot funnier than you intended it to be.

DanaC 10-08-2011 08:48 AM

Which name? 'Quickshot'? Always made me giggle.

wolf 10-08-2011 08:56 AM

Come on. Your electronic boyfriend's Joystick was named Quickshot?

Well, Vic was only 20.

.

Remember peeps, that "20" was because this beastie had a massive twenty kilobytes of RAM! How awesome was that?!

Actually it didn't. As I recall it had much lower RAM than that. Sure it was something like 3.5k..

Gonna google.

Ok...according to Google: the Vic20 had 5kb of RAM, of which 1.5kb was used up for system stuff. Leaving a whopping

3583 bytes of BASIC program memory for code and variables was available to the user of an unexpanded machine.
Thought as much, because I had a memory expansion cartridge (I even remember the brand, it was a 'vixen') that took it all the way up to *drum roll* 16kb!!! and I'm not 100% sure, but I think it cost something like £35-£40 for that expansion. It came with switches, so you could choose how much to boost the memory: you could take it up to 5k, 8k, 12k or 16k, I think. If you switched it to a higher level than was needed it wouldnt always work.

ZenGum 10-09-2011 06:00 AM

I was robbed!

And if you wanted to save something you had to use a cassette recorder!
