Scrummy.

Spexxvet 02-10-2012 08:07 AM

footfootfoot 02-10-2012 08:19 AM

BigV 02-10-2012 10:13 AM

(This morning's breakfast, and no, they're not made with real hamsters. *I* made them. Hamsters can't handle my skillet.)

classicman 02-10-2012 10:53 AM

How do they fare in the oven? ;)

That's funny, because just this morning I made chicken waffles... except mine actually were made out of chicken.

They get burned to ash. My oven is past it's useful life, and is overdue to be replaced. There's a major DIY thread coming up soon.

Sundae 02-10-2012 12:52 PM

Y'all baffle me.

classicman 02-10-2012 01:59 PM

Major?? Heck replacing an electric oven unit takes about 1/2 an hour.
You got gasssssssssssssssss ;)

BigV 02-10-2012 02:05 PM

yeah, major.

electric stove and oven now, but I've got my eye on a gas range/oven as the replacement. buying the new oven, lashing it to my vw golf, moving it in, moving the old one out, that's major right there.

extending the gas plumbing from the stub in the basement up into the kitchen and safely and making a leak free connection to the range, major and high stakes. houses in this region can blow up ya know.

Plus, I'll have a new range hood to install, and plumb that one to vent outside. major. so...

yeah, it's a big deal.

Oh dayum - yeh that's a whole different kettle of fish.
I installed a new microwave/vent unit, but could not logistically vent it outside.
I did install a new outlet for it in the cupboard above.

You will be THRILLED with a gas stovetop though. They are so much better than flattops or electric.

Shit, what? All the stores we've ever worked with have free delivery and haul away the old unit too. I mean, I understand it's not really free, it's built into the price, but it's already built into everyone's price, you can't get a discount for picking it up yourself.

footfootfoot 02-10-2012 03:33 PM

AND they won't deliver gas to a new customer w/o first checking your hook-up.

I have several times. Last time was spring '11 when I got a fridge.
Saved $75 IIRC

If you do get a gas stove, don't make the mistake we did.

We got one that happened to have white enamel under and near the burners. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Shiny in the showroom, a bitch to keep clean at home.

Don't get anything remotely like this:

Black hides the mess best.

ZenGum 02-10-2012 06:23 PM

That's Obama's re-election strategy :bolt:

footfootfoot 02-10-2012 08:11 PM

Focus, people! Apples and Almond butter.

Let's take it from the top.

HungLikeJesus 02-10-2012 08:26 PM

Where we live, the tax difference just about cancels the delivery cost.

wolf 02-10-2012 09:27 PM

A friend of mine became enamored with the combination of apples and peanut butter. Went on and on and on about how incredibly awesome it was. So, i tried it. With my finest organic peanut butter and a nice Honeycrisp.

Uh. yeah.

I don't get it.

It improved neither the peanut butter nor the apple.

Well, derhey, peanuts butter. Think caramel apples mit der nutz all uber dem.

And as far as H.Crisp goes, there is no improving on them. You need to go for a more "apple-y" apple.

Aliantha 02-11-2012 01:18 AM

We have a gas cooktop and it's stainless steel. I'm pretty happy with it except in one spot someone tried to scrub something off and it has a bit of a smudge on the shine now, but mostly I love it. Especially now you can get those stainless steel wipes that keep it looking so shiny and new. :)

And it had bee poop in it. I may be willing to sacrifice another slice of apple to this project, with some plain old Jif, but I dont think anything will taste like caramel apples unless I take a bite of a Brach's caramel first.

??? Are you saying it costs a lot for stainless steel?

Just a note, over here, black cooktops are very rare. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen one.

They're almost all stainless steel or a colour (including white). Lots of people reno their kitchens and decide on a colour scheme for their appliances and then go for cooktop, dishwasher, fridge and microwave and kettle all in that colour. The most popular is stainless steel, but you can choose almost any colour you like really if you're willing to pay the money.

classicman 02-13-2012 07:40 PM

Absolutely. SS is the most expensive here. The other colors are available a well, but real stainless = more $$$$.

ZenGum 02-13-2012 08:32 PM

It puts the almond butter on the apple...

wolf 02-14-2012 09:23 AM

Makes me wonder ... everything is black and white and stainless now ... whatever happened to Avocado and Harvest Gold?

Thankfully died out by the 80s.

Clodfobble 02-14-2012 06:05 PM

Cherry red is making a comeback, though.

footfootfoot 02-14-2012 07:20 PM

oh yeah I scored a fake le Creuset at BJ's for $40. Cherry red. nice. it cooks just like the real thing only at a tenth the cost.

Aliantha 02-14-2012 07:42 PM

what's the difference between a french oven and a dutch oven? (this is not a joke lol) I just can't see any difference.

wolf 02-14-2012 07:48 PM

The French ones cost twice as much and surrender every time you try to cook sauerbraten.

infinite monkey 02-14-2012 07:49 PM

The French don't want to call their products Dutch.

HungLikeJesus 02-14-2012 08:07 PM

I just ate a UP-style pasty, with six servings of beef gravy.

But no apples or almond butter.
