Happy Clutch is Fucked Day
Yep that's right. Will need to install a new slave and master cylinder. There's fluid leaking like a bastard under the bonnet.

lol...well the parts are only a little over $150 and the labour will be free (me and Dad), so we wont need many.

my clutch is not fucked... yet. but it is bent over. I can rev the motor at highway speeds in top gear and watch the tach fling around.. needless to say, that is not accompanied but a jolt of acceleration.
So, I take it eeeeaaaaaassssy. plan my trips around uphills. |
Why not just get Ali to fix it for you?

Big V, that sounds a lot like the clutch plate in my Corolla. Some are adjustable, mine wasn't. I'm told the change-over job is not too hard, but I upgraded to the Subaru* so I don't know.
I had to develop a technique where I mesh the gears, then let the clutch settle, then accelerate. * ETA: then had to get the clutch on the Subi fixed... hmmmmm. |

The parts arrived today! Lucky Dad's coming down on Friday though. I don't think I have the right tools to do the master cylinder myself. In fact, I think it's going to be a bitch of a job. Looks like It's half under the bonnet and the other half under the dashboard through a hole in the wall.
Anyway, I should be able to do the slave cylinder tomorrow, so that'll at least be done. Then I have to just wait till someone gets home to bleed the clutch. |

Awww...thanks Zen. It's actually a pretty easy job though by the looks of things. Just undo the bolts on the old one, then bolt the new one in. I think there's 4 all together. I have a socket set, so that'll make the larger bolts easy, and as long as I have a spanner the right size, I should be able to sort the other two out without too many worries. If worse comes to worst, I'll get most of it done then use Dad's tools to finish the job.
I'm so grateful to my Dad for teaching me how to do basic maintenance jobs on the car when I was a kid, and then my first car was an old bomb we picked up cheap and did up. I learned all sorts of stuff doing that. A lot of which I've forgotten, but the whole principals of mechanical things are pretty easy. One bit fits to the next bit and that makes it go broooooom. ;) |
