Is Scotland a real country?

Is Scotland a real country? Or is it the attic of England where they lock away all the loonies?

When I think of a Scotsman, this is the image that comes to mind

I bet that Scotsman knows how to resize a picture.

Yikes, dude!

Trilby 09-19-2012 10:16 AM

Why are you messing with the Scots?

Is it because of the weather or the booze?

BrianR 09-19-2012 10:53 AM

By virtue of birth, I am Scottish on BOTH sides.

Scots are not loonies but they are prideful and stubborn. They are also known for thrift. And kilts. They make a wonderful addition to the UK.

You'll have to ask the Scotch.;)

That man has too many teeth to be an old Scot.
They have usually had them all punched out by that age.

Gravdigr 09-19-2012 12:50 PM

With that hat, that Scot looks like a Canadian. You know, a man from Canadia.

Rhianne 09-19-2012 01:39 PM

Scotland? Real?

Small, with its own oil, largely undefended and still uninvaded by the USA?

No. It can't be real.

As an apol for being so rude to the Scots.
Hibs fans with the wonderful Sunshine on Leith (The Proclaimers). There is a bit of yap, but mostly the BBC accept that the song sung by the massed choir of fans is well worth airtime.

The Moroccan player is the one (later) wearing the fez and the Moroccan flag.
"We're all Jock Tamson's bairns" seems true on this occasion.
Sadly Scottish fitba is rife with sectarianism. I just can't seem to stay away from that subject.

But The Proclaimers' song has nothing of this in it, and I get choked up hearing it sung. It's beautifully understated and imho more powerful for it. Gotta love the Scots.

Scotland is a daff country for sure and they could learn a thing or two about making good whiskey (whisky)

limey 09-25-2012 03:11 PM

Ahem.

Big Sarge 09-25-2012 06:12 PM

ah, you know i'm just joshing especially when i question their whisky

Rhianne 09-26-2012 04:20 PM

I don't know if we ever answered the original question but I suppose if England is a real country then so must Scotland be. For now, it doesn't matter anyway.

Here's a nice song...

I hate all the shortbread tin visions of Scotland out there, bears no relation to the actual lives of most Scots nowadays. For years before devolution this speech by Renton out of trainspotting was how a great many of us felt.

Now it's about time we actually grew up as a nation and voted for independance, it's a natural way forward
