I'll play. :D I'm hoping not only to participate for Libby but also to shame myself into eating better. :p: Yesterday was a busy day otherwise I would've eaten more.

Sept. 29, 2012

In the morning, I ate sushi. In the picture, the plate of white rice belongs to my niece. The plate with nori was both for my sister and me. Yeah, wasn't much food. I drank a cup of osmanthus oolong tea. Lunch, I had a Vietnamese sandwich. It's about 7,8 inches long. It's cut diagonally so the left side sticks out and makes it look longer than it really is. Inside is shredded chicken, sliced cucumbers, sliced jalapeno, pickled carrots and jicama, Vietnamese mayo sauce and a dash of soy sauce. My sister adds that it's a Vietnamese secret mayo sauce that's equilvalent to McD's Big Mac sauce. For dinner, I had a hot and spicy chicken sandwich from McD's and a medium size banana.

I ate half a dinner roll so I wouldn't have uler problems before making pancakes. Afterwards I only had 1/8 slice of an 8" pancake with 2 tsp. of syrup on the side because I was tired after everything was done. Had a slice and had to clean up. :greenface (Yes, I know the other one is kinda burnt looking, hihi.)

Ate at 2PM...

1/2 cup of rice with sautee bell peppers, mushrooms, tofu, and some imitation meat thingy (don't know what it is) and some fried eggs

1/3 cup of rice with Thai sour soup, which I had to add some lemon juice in because it wasn't sour enough for me. I normally would also add spoonfuls of hot sauce, but I've been getting heartburn so no extra spicy food for me for a while. :p:

one cream puff, 3 pieces of green tea mooncake

2 cups of hot tea

footfootfoot 09-30-2012 04:39 PM

can I come live with you?

Gravdigr 09-30-2012 05:02 PM

Damn. Now I'm hungry.

Again.

Lola Bunny 09-30-2012 05:32 PM

Why? The food isn't that great. :frog: I usually eat plain pancakes so I didn't think of buying anything to go with the "souffle pancakes" as the recipe is called. Told my sister the next time I'm making "pizza" pancakes, piling on whip cream, strawberries, blueberries, or bananas and have the banana maple syrup ready. Or pile on the pancakes with sausages, bacon, and eggs. She gave me a face and said, "no more gianenormous pancakes." At least if you live here Foot, I could have fun making those pancakes and have someone eat them too. :D

Okay, 5:00 PM....had Lay's chips.

9:00 AM Quarter of the leftover gianenormous with two slices of turkey spam. Iced coffee with a tsp of raw sugar.

11:30 AM A quarter piece of durian mung bean moon cake and a cup of osmanthus oolong tea.

(It's Full Moon or Mid-Autumn Festival season, so we have lots of moon cakes. :p:)

Haha...I would be so offended if I haven't heard worse descriptions of the durian smell. You know what people say about durian, either you love it or hate it. Fortunately for me, I have a dull sense of smell so I can tolerate lots of foul smelling food. I don't know about where you live, but most Chinatown should sell moon cakes. Pity you don't live nearby. I have 5 boxes of moon cakes lying right here, mostly lotus paste flavor. I would be more than happy to give you a box or two. (We already finished the mixed nuts moon cakes.) I'll be gaining a few or 10 lbs. after eating all these moon cakes. :p:

Burlington, VT (pop. 42,417) doesn't have much of a Chinatown, i'm afraid. There's a Thai market on my street and a Vietnamese one up the block, but that's about it.

Lola Bunny 10-01-2012 02:59 PM

And the Vietnamese store doesn't carry any moon cakes? I guess there's not much of an Asian population there. Pity. You should move to Houston. In Chinatown even the street names are in Chinese. :D

Lola Bunny 10-01-2012 04:43 PM

3:00 PMish Ate two slices of leftover pizza found in the freezer.

5:00PMish Had the last half slice of the leftover pizza from the freezer and 1/2 cup of juice that a sister of mine made. She told me what it was but I forgot what's in there. Almond milk, cherry, and something and maybe something else. She's a smoothie nut. :D

Lola Bunny 10-01-2012 09:10 PM

Lola Bunny 10-02-2012 01:14 PM

Hehe....thank you? :D

12:30 PM I ate a McD's ice cream cone and half a large fries. I just found out a cone is 200 calories and a large fries is 400 calories. So, I just consumed 400 calories, and that's just a snack. Dang!

2:15 PMish I ate a plate of steam rice cakes with minced tofu and soyu sauce mixture. You can't see the steam rice cakes in the picture because they're white on a white plate. If anyone's interested in looking it up, it's called "banh beo" in Vietnamese. I also ate two pieces of moon cakes and a cup of hot tea.

Really? I've always thought the food I eat is quite ordinary. A literal translation from the Viet phrase is "commoner's food." :p: The food doesn't seem much but it's quite a bit for my stomach. And these days, I've been getting indigestion and heartburn. :greenface

2:15 PM Half of the leftover "gianenormous" pancake and 2 eggs scrambled and about 1 Tbsp of syrup. For dessert, I ate about half a bowl of papaya.

3:30 PMish Eight grapes (my nephew's leftover from lunch)

Big Sarge 10-03-2012 06:07 PM

Honey, I think Addie eats more than you do.

Hhehe....that's because she's still young. When I was in my early 20's I could eat more than some men. My middle age body can't handle food as well as it used to. :p:

6:00 PM About a cup of white rice with steamed broccoli and fried eggs. The bowl on the left is soy sauce with chili peppers. Spicy soy sauce makes everything tastes better. :D I also ate three baby carrots. For dessert, I ate 3 pieces of durian moon cakes and hot green tea.

I just realized that I've been dismissing all the positive comments y'all have been giving me about my food. The reason is because my sister complains all the time how our food is so unappealing. Also, whenever this girl I know happens to come in during our mealtime, she would always sneer at our food. She couldn't understand how we could eat such unappealing food so heartily. So, in my mind, the food I usually eat ain't so great. When I received comments that my food looks good, my first instinct was, "Really??!!??" So, what I'm really trying to say is that I thank you for all your positive comments. :D

Dinner at 6:00PM I didn't really feel like eating but was hungry so decided to eat a cup of white rice with spicy soy sauce. Normally you would see pieces of chili peppers in the food but my stomach is not quite back to normal yet. Therefore, I still need to stay off really spicy or sour stuffs. :( For dessert, I had half a bowl grapes and one bowl of papaya. Afterwards, I felt like eating something salty, hihi, so I had a 1/4 cup of goldfish. I'm measuring my food so I'd limit the junk food. If I eat chips from the bag, I would continue to eat forever. :p:

8:30 PM Wasn't hungry but when I saw my sister make the sandwich, I ate one too. Had an avocado and baby spinach leaves sandwich, one baby carrot, 1/4 white peach, 1/2 Snicker's ice cream.

limey 10-05-2012 04:00 AM

I think measuring the junk food is a good way to keep it in the diet (gotta have some fun, after all!). I like salted peanuts and prefer to buy a bigger bag as it's better value. But then I try to remember to measure out a small bowlful and put the rest well away for another time (preferably not ten minutes later, but that happens sometimes!).

Mmmmm, great looking sandwich. Imma steal that idea from you!

Ibby seems to have stopped - probably for that very reason.
I now have to be all brown-nosed and say yours was my favourite.

Nothing wrong with the others, just yours contained more food I found unusual.

Because I eat more ethnic food, it seems more interesting. :p: Since some of you showed interest, I will post the food I eat that's Vietnamese (Asian).

For dinner today, I ate "chicken rice." A whole chicken is boiled in water until cooked. The water then is used to cook the rice so it'd have the chicken flavor. The uncooked rice is cooked in oil and garlic first then cook with "chicken broth." Chicken is shredded and tossed with a Vietnamese mint "rau ram." The rice and chicken is eaten together with a fish sauce mixture. Fish sauce is mixed with crushed ginger and garlic.

Okay, today's food is not mouth-watering, but it's different.

The first picture is brown rice eaten with salted sesame. Hulled sesame seeds are toasted, crushed, then mixed with salt.

The second picture is Vietnamese loofah stir-fry. It’s a type of squash, I think. I googled the Vietnamese name and that’s what I came up with. I ate plain Vietnamese loofah stir-fry; however, people usually stir-fry loofah with meat or shrimp.

The third picture is Vietnamese loofah. If you let the fruit over mature before before plucking it or simply let it dry out, you can cut it into the loofah bath sponges.

The first picture is fish paste. Fish is made into a paste with seasonings. You can cook into in soups or fried like in the picture.

The second picture is “bun rieu.” There are lots of variation to the dish so y’all can google it if you’re interested. The jar on the right is shrimp paste, which is added to the dish. Normally I also add chili sauce but I ran out. It’s like the one in the third picture except I eat the one without garlic.

zippyt 10-14-2012 12:51 AM

Well, she's a pudgy, middle-age woman and not me. :p: I'm too lazy to cook and whenever I do, I usually cook dishes with recipes where I can follow along. :D Not sure what it's called in English, but there's this practice where you can pay someone, restaurant, etc. to cook for you. Each morning I pick up lunch and dinner. I pay them monthly so I don't have to cook. :D This way, I get to eat food that's more complicated or time-consuming to cook.

Well, I've decided to post only Vietnamse food. I've been eating non-Vietnamese food the last couple of days. Well, on Sunday, I did but the presentation wasn't great since I didn't get a chance to sit down and eat til late in the evening. I was about all day and snacked on food samples on Costco. You know that you can get really full eating samples? Wow, I had everything from soup, appetizers, main dish, desserts, chips, and drinks. Yesterday, I had chicken fajitas all day. This morning, I had peanut butter and jelly sandwich. :p: Almost lunchtime, I'm gonna check the kitchen to see what to eat. Oh wait, there's fried spam. :yelsick:

Will explain about the food more later.

Steam gai lan, fish, pastries.

Hey Bunny. You cook rau muống, Kangkong? I started eating it in Indonesia. Can't get it around here

Lola Bunny 10-21-2012 08:28 PM

We normally just boil or sautee them. I heard they're very easy to grow. You think you'll be interested in growing them? I can ask around to see if it's possible for me to send you some to grow.

busterb 10-23-2012 01:44 PM

Water spinach is an Invasive Species, by USDA. Could probable find some wild, if I was able to stomp around in the swamps. :smack:
