TMNT

I was surfing amazon looking for a good Linux book when I stumbled acorss this amazing collection of toys. TMNT
I had no idea they were coming back into production. I'm seriously considering ordering the 4 turtles, they had such an impact on my younger years.

elSicomoro 02-11-2003 08:36 PM

My brother was a huge fan of them as a kid too (you're a week older than him).

Shit, for that matter, I dug 'em too. I didn't collect the figures, but I did watch the cartoon. (For that matter, I watched cartoons after school until the end of high school...Animaniacs were by far the best, IMO.)

I came in on the tail end of The Empire Strikes Back and was pretty big into Voltron and TransFormers...those were the days.

Now you'll excuse me as I use my walker here to head down to the all you can eat cafeteria...

perth 02-11-2003 09:00 PM

official homepage

its been a while since ive spent any time there, but i think you can read the first issue of tmnt there (violent with mature themes, much better than the cartoon) and read about the inception of the characters.

syc, liking transformers and voltron doesnt make you old, drinking malt beverages makes you old. :)

what about the thundercats?

~james

(couldnt find a decent link for voltron)

elSicomoro 02-11-2003 09:06 PM

I keep it light on the malt beverages...truth be told, I haven't drank in a while...except for the occasional sips of Penn Dutch Egg Nog. :)

It's still hard for me to understand that my brother will be 21 in September, and that kids his age are now juniors in college (if they're going the standard 4 year route).

Cam 02-11-2003 10:25 PM

I'm the oldest and I'm having a hell of a time fathoming my brother graduating from High school this may, going to be odd to come home and only have one brother around the house. One of my friends mentioned that in 10 years we'll be 30, I don't know quite why that gets to me but damn it makes me feel old. :). Lol no offense to the 30 year olds out there either.

Okay, but us 46 year olds are gonna be pretty damn offended!

Cam 02-12-2003 01:03 AM

Crap I just can't win. :)

wolf 02-12-2003 02:02 AM

Reading all about TMNT and Voltron and Transformers and stuff ...

I found myself thinking of The Banana Splits, and the Monkees, Ultraman, and Batman ...

And to top it all off ... tonight at work ... one of my dept's supervisors noticed that one of the ambulance crew members calls me "Momma."

Supervisor asked why ... I said, "It's because I'm old enough to be his. He's called me that since he started here."

You know what my damn little bastard pretend-child said?? "No, it's because she's OLDER than my mother."

"Why you little ...!!!"

Moments like this are why they DON'T let me carry at work.

Ah well. I guess I should start filling out that application for Golden Age Manor. I understand they have ID anklets that set off an alarm if you try to leave your assigned area. (Kind of like anti-theft tags for old people).

We'll I'd do that, except I forgot where I left my pen, and I can't seem to find mah reading glasses. I KNOW I just had them ...

Mmm. Cheetara. I use to watch the Thundercats for her. Who's this dick with the sword! I wanna see more of the hot, self-assured chick with the staff!!!

Cartoon Network had been running it, and I'm now twice as old as I was [a respectible 34 this Feb 19th], and I can only watch it for about 30 seconds before turning the channel...

Umm, 'sight within sight' wasn't exactly the first of many quotes to come forth from these lips. Forgive me if I offended anyone for merely telling the truth. Thank you for asking. I've been doing more productive things with my life lately and still have much more work to do before I am satisfied that I have performed at my absolute best, but if you can't handle the simple truth of my anything but dull reality then please don't ever ask me to tell the truth about it all. Thank you! It's ALL true, especially the part about the DICK with the sword. I don't know you by that name, but you do ask some very good questions. :)

wolf 02-23-2003 02:07 PM

he just shows up in the darndest places, doesn't he?

Uryoces 02-24-2003 06:16 AM

j03L13, some of the stuff you wrote was a bit hard for Larry Kenney to say!

Just lettin' you know. The search for prefection goes on...

I believe I'll just let that roll right off my back. Thanks for the sound clip! Just another pseudonym, for one of many cartoon series. Big f'kn deal, you know when I sang "come sail away" for a southpark cd I was really aggrevated but it cracks me up to look back on even playing the accompaniment. The guy I told you all "robbed" me is actually my friend who took Southpark from me as well. It's always nice to spend some occasional time with him, to reflect upon it all so differently. You don't have to remind me of the various pseudonyms and alleged careers of the actors "behind" Southpark. You would only cause me to laugh, and consequently piss many others off just for telling the truth about the matter.

"Mike Judge" is a pretty cool dude.

jeni 02-27-2003 02:00 AM

enough about feeling old, i'm posting in response to the whole TMNT thing.

paul bought raphael for his brother lucas. his birthday was february 1. and he got michelangelo for himself. those were the ones they played with the most as kids. and then i convinced paul to buy shredder.

and now they have the new TV show on saturday mornings, which paul watches every week.

if you want get really nostalgic, visit yesterdayland.com. i found lots of shows i had been aching to remember the names of for years, and i found lots of shows and toys that i had forgotten about.

j03L10T 02-28-2003 10:14 AM

Very nice reading your poem, is the blood "pretty"? There are a few tiny tears as well, that is a very nice poem and in the sense of a loss the reader can only feel in comparison to the reality, if it never had been written at all (while reading).

jeni 02-28-2003 11:14 PM

those are lyrics by a great band called sentenced.

they are good.

i love those lyrics because they're true. they write some good stuff.

edited to add: they're kind of depressing and "dark", but you cannot deny the truth in them. yar har.

j03L10T 03-01-2003 12:01 PM

I was listening to bits and pieces of "dust in the wind" at work the other day and i made me think of the poem I did not know was actually from a song by a group named "sentenced". But I do know how that feels sometimes, to want to write about loss before it's actually too late. Sometimes.

CorporateAccount 03-02-2003 09:21 AM

Has anyone seen the new TMNT animated show? It's horrible. April O'Neil works for Baxter Stockman and Shredder is no where to be found. They are totally destroying the original mythology of the Ninja Turtles. I would much rather they re-air the original episodes than completely change the history of them. BTW Baxter Stockman is now black and authoritative. He's supposed to be a geeky loser.

CodeBlue40 03-02-2003 05:40 PM

The Ninja Turtles were cool when it was just done by Eastman and Laird. Everything after left a bad taste in my mouth. Even the cartoon pissed me off after a while. Of course, a cartoon based on the original comic would only be fit for prime time, possibly even a cable only show.

But that's the way things always are. Anytime something cool, and somewhat underground (read: There's not a toy, cartoon, or cereal about it.) comes around, some jacktard of an advertising or television exec gets wind of it. Then, it gets injected with sugar and plastic to make it "safe".

Safe? Safe! Goddamnit, this was a comic book about ninjas. Ninjas! The ninja was (is?) a silent assassin. A dark and quiet bringer of death, chaos, and mayhem. Ninjas aren't supposed to be safe. I mean, yes, the concept was pretty farfetched, but after a while, minor characteristics about the characters became hooks for pimping out cans of Chef Boyardee.

Screw the Turtles. They're only a shadow of what they once were.

Someone find me an issue of Hamster Vice.

Cam 03-02-2003 07:06 PM

I think I might have to throw in the old TMNT movie, I've watched both "The Mighty Ducks" and "Cool Runnings" this weekend I might as well keep reliving my elementary school years.

Spinzgirl 03-03-2003 10:12 AM

Never was a huge TMNT fan, was a bit after my time (I was a huge Votron fan, tho) but I don't like the new animation. It's so dark, so scary looking. Haven't actually watched it but it looks hokey.

But that's beside the point. Does anyone know if they show Voltron on any station?

The new cartoon is based on the comics, actually, and Laird (Or Eastman, but I think Laird) is actually on the team doing it. Of course they cut out the blood, but other than that, some of the scenes are identical to those in the comic.
Not to mention certain details. Baxter Stockman is now black, April is a lab assistant, and so on. I think it's pretty good.

I hate to break it to you, but April does work for Baxter. And he IS black. Maybe you should read the original comics. That old TV show stuff was completely made up.

The funny thing is that when the old TV show aired, people were pissed because they had changed so much of the original story. "Baxter Stockman is a white, geeky loser. And April is a reporter!?"

Oh, and Shredder has been in EVERY EPISODE THUS FAR. I think you might be watching another show.

No.

Since you didn't get a welcome post, here it is.

I'm the resident asshole. The older I become, the more I hate people as a whole. I'm pretty quick to tell your that your ideas are ridiculous and even quicker to write you off as someone whom I don't need to pay attention to. I'm basically married, which means I don't feel like I need to be nice to females - so I'm not. You'll get no special treatment from me because I don't care. Since you seem to be more of the liberal bent (judging from your profile and your few posts), we will probably agree on many things but disagree on even more. And I probably won't keep it a secret.

That having been said, I'm glad you're here. The Cellar, to me, is a community. It works very well, and I hope it works well for you. I've been posting regularly here for nearly two years and it's been a good time. It can be pretty much anything to you that you want it to. You decide your level of involvement. I hope that it's as fulfilling for you as it has been for me; that you find friends here and that your enemies aren't too evil; that, at the end of your stay, be it a week or ten years, you say "I'm glad I did that."

Don't be discouraged too quickly and I believe you'll find it's worth it.

I'm glad to have you. Welcome to the Cellar.

Undertoad 03-04-2003 09:59 AM

That should be the universal welcome post.

Spinzgirl 03-04-2003 10:14 AM

Thanks guys. I guess I should refrain from posting when I'm PMSing seeing as how I won't be able to control my emotions (raises sarcasm hand). I really wasn't looking for special treatment from anyone, I just was taken off guard by what seemed a personal attack with no provocation.

Funny thing is, I grew up very conservative and a strict fundamentalist. For a time I believed that if people didn't believe what I did they should, well, go to hell. But I moved away from that area and eventually learned that just because someone feels differently from how I do that doesn't mean they should suffer. However, I would like to live in a world where fighting was minimal and Fox quit showing reality series. Still I know that's not likely to happen, so I use boards like this to vent my frustrations and hope for the best. If you don't agree with me, fine, but don't make assumptions on me based on a few posts.

Oh, and I'm happily married myself and appreciate not being objectified. There really is a brain in my head, I will listen to all sides of the argument. Heck, if I swung so far left from being so far to the right then I can't be THAT hard-headed.

Thanks again for the welcome.

Who is wondering why she likes Tech Support :\

Actually, I don't think that it's the "GULLIBLE" tattoo....(i'm thinking of having it covered up into something tribal, a la Mike Tyson)

I am chained to a tech support desk. (I refuse to call it work, it's more along the lines of torture I get paid for but don't enjoy - and well...the pay kinda leaves much to be desired).

There's an interesting equation out there somewhere, with the variables of

Inability to read manual, refusal to think things through, and the ability to dial a phone number.....

And it ends up with a value equal my phone number :)
