Speaking Your Mind is a Civic Duty

I really believe that in today's day and age that it is important to speak your mind. In fact, I believe it is a civic duty. Especially with the internet and all. I mean common If you are sitting at your desk at work and you read something that you find either disturbing, interesting, or you just think you can improve upon what another person is saying, it's your duty as a civil human being to put in your 2 cents. Maybe they don't really want your opinion maybe you just want to be heard but you know freedom of speech is essential to any community. How will society ever progress if we all just "shut the fok up". Maybe no one really cares what you have to say but I'd much rather live in a society where my mistakes are corrected rather than live in one where I'm beaten up or labeled just because I have a different philosophy or Idea of the way things should be. So where do you stand?? Speak and Spell or Silence??

The Quakers were big on silence. My siblings went to a college near Philadelphia founded by Quakers, and at the graduation ceremonies, they had moments of silence. I'm not talking about a 20 second moment of silence, or a minute long moment of silence. These moments were at least 5 minutes long or so. Maybe even 10. And they were really nice.

People blather too much sometimes.

Sometimes it's important to speak up. But sometimes it's important to just be silent and mindful.

DanaC 01-07-2013 10:40 AM

The right to silence is just as important as the right to free speech

JBKlyde 01-07-2013 10:48 AM

I totally agree that if you don't have something good to say don't say anything at all. The point I am trying to make is that with out interaction and a little bit of friction sometimes, we get no where.

xoxoxoBruce 01-07-2013 10:51 AM

Yeah, even if you agree, sometimes stirring a little shit makes the smug rethink their position.;)

Being silent isn't a civic duty. Being informed when speaking one's mind is a civic duty. Talking out your ass is just plain doody.

ZenGum 01-07-2013 06:23 PM

Read first, then think, then speak/write. Then proofread before clicking "post".

Rhianne 02-05-2013 10:28 PM

At those prices why would anyone not listen.

DanaC 02-06-2013 04:45 AM

Hah.

Why would it all focus on America? Ancient prophecies and biblical revelations from the time of Moses...focusing on America.

You should check out the core beliefs of Mormonism. America, fuck yeah!

DanaC 02-06-2013 10:01 AM

Oh, I read a fair old chunk of the Book of Mormon. It's truly awful. Reads like a low rent gospel, all bible stylee, but not very well done.

infinite monkey 02-06-2013 10:49 AM

But it has a good beat and you can dance to it!

Clodfobble 02-06-2013 10:53 AM

This song is my favorite from the musical. (Currently. They're all my favorite, really.)

Gravdigr 02-06-2013 03:57 PM

Civic duty? Is that some new kind of Honda?

DanaC 02-06-2013 04:08 PM

*snort*

JBKlyde 02-13-2013 07:29 PM

speak and spell for me.... and I'd really like to figure out who these people who are talking to me in my drams are comming from GOD or SATAN. If it's from God more than likely I will die soon because my faith is lacking.. if anyone would like to help "build faith" I most deff would like to hear from you. If it's from SATAN I am jsut going to get beat up really bad.

Religion VS Evolution. The term religion in my perspective is nothing more than a buzzword for those who choose to be politically, and morally correct. Evolution is a buzzword for progressive people who want play weird science. Do the two mix?? I think so because GOD created everything that exists. Including the government of the USA who says we should have freedom of religion. SO ahum KIM CLEMENT is anti American for saying "down with religion". However the context of the 1st amendment needs to be reexamined because weird science has evolved and the government has not. Nor has the deeply rooted hatred for JEWS and POLOCKS been successfully destroyed and until that happens I say religion is necessary. IF it is indeed the end of the church age then who cares about religion anyway, let it rest in peace.

Primitive Instinct: In the realm of reality one tends to react in ways that are not always completely right. In a perfect world we'd all have our needs met and would never be in need. However this is a primitive world we are living in. After all we have thousands of galaxies in the universe and we are just now sending robots to mars. An extratrestial would have star ships like star trek. So at what point must a man take responsibility and say I want to be advanced? Only when mankind decides there is no time for war will we ever begin to advance in ways that allows people to see past money and really start living.

DanaC 02-20-2013 04:42 AM

Except....much as I would like to agree with your sentiment, war has been one of the greatest spurs to science, medicine and social development that we have ever had.

Lamplighter 02-20-2013 08:55 AM

Oh crap! Now I can't un-think my first thought...

Ecclesiastes 3:8
New International Version (NIV)
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

I guess in fact there is a time for war afterall if someone would like to explain why and when is time for war I'd like to hear from you...

Griff 02-21-2013 05:51 AM

Well according to politicians it would be whenever poll numbers drop or donors need an influx of taxpayer dollars.

BigV 02-21-2013 06:27 AM

Excuse me, but your cynic is showing.
