Broadchurch!

Wow. I'm fucking riveted.

It's torment waiting an entire week to watch the next episode.

footfootfoot 03-30-2013 09:06 PM

I'm getting a kind of Wickerman vibe.
Anyone watching this?
Buehler?

richlevy 03-30-2013 09:20 PM

Had to look it up. When I saw the name I got a BBC vibe but I know you live here in the U.S. It turns out my instincts were right. So a series revolving around a single murder in a small town. Sounds a bit like Twin Peaks.

footfootfoot 03-30-2013 10:37 PM

Yeah, in a way, but it's not surreal like Twin Peaks was, it's more straight drama with a whole assload of people hiding shit about their comings and goings, and the detective is from out of town, a devout Catholic, and there's this humongous cage in the shape of a man, and it appears to be made out of twigs.

Might be.

DanaC 03-31-2013 04:05 AM

I'm loving Broadchurch. And yeah, I do get a little bit of a Wickerman vibe. Not so much the pagan stuff, but the insular little town and its secrets.

Olivia Coleman is outstanding in it.

footfootfoot 03-31-2013 12:50 PM

Oh she is my new favorite actress. I found it hard to believe she was also HArriet Schulenberg in Green Wing. That's acting. I DL'd Tyrannosaur, very heavy movie but she and her costar were outstanding.

She can act the shit out of a role.

Have to find some That Mitchell and Webb Look.

DanaC 03-31-2013 12:59 PM

Have you seen Peep Show? She's awesome in that.

[eta] also, though I've never actually watched en episode, so can't recommend as such, there's a series called Rev that she has a large part in.

BigV 04-09-2013 05:52 PM

outstanding in it?

she's *soaking* in it!

Boom, boom!

I just watched the sixth episode. I'm all caught up. damn, I want more. Like, now.

This thread is lacking in the clip department. There is a clip deficiency in this thread.

Ocean's Edge 04-12-2013 03:01 PM

Looking forward to checking this one out

footfootfoot 04-12-2013 04:59 PM

I love Olivia

Tyranosaur is streamable via Netflix. It's heavy and I'm taking it in two sittings.

footfootfoot 04-15-2013 11:41 AM

Oh it gets heavier.

DanaC 04-16-2013 03:44 AM

last night's Broadchurch: Bloodyhell! Utter bastards. That ending was cruel. Can't believe I have to wait a whole week for the conclusion.

footfootfoot 04-16-2013 08:14 AM

I know! I will forgive them this time, but that was a sneaky American cliffhanger trick.
Spoiler in white:
I always suspected Tom, Danny's "friend" since the very first scene where he was deleting shit from his phone. But now, I think there may be more to it than that. A number of people. I also suspected Ellie's husband of being the guy who jumped the fence and rang Ellie's mobile, but he would have done a better job of destroying the computer if he were implicated. Maybe he was covering for his son... OOH! or vice versa! Especially with Ellie's self righteous "How could you not know about your husband..." directed towards Susan Wright. THAT would be something.

I hope the week passes quickly enough. There's Vikings too.

footfootfoot 04-16-2013 08:03 PM

DANNY'S KILLER IS
UTOPIA!

DanaC 04-17-2013 01:57 AM

Hahahahahahaha.

footfootfoot 04-18-2013 08:29 AM

So Dana, what are your guesses?

How many people were in on it?

glatt 12-21-2014 07:09 PM

We (the wife and kids) just watched this series. It was addicting. Watched the whole series in one weekend. Good stuff.

Everyone is mad at me because I predicted who the killer was after episode 5 of 8. It was obvious to me what the writers were doing.

But they still did a really good job with it all. Good television.

monster 12-21-2014 08:44 PM

Oh I just found this on Netflix the other day. started at the beginning. further along than I should be, and that's all I have to say about that. :o

BigV 12-21-2014 11:36 PM

For those of you who like(d) Broadchurch, I suggest you check out Gracepoint. Same lead detective, different accent. They're both quite enjoyable.

infinite monkey 12-22-2014 08:41 PM

i started a month of free netflix, mostly to continue my re-watch of TWD at season 4. I read this thread and on the advice of dwellars I started watching Broadchurch. I'm only most of the way through the first episode but I can see it being addictive.

No spoilers please.

Now, speaking of Netflix. My free month was supposed to consist of a memory lane walkdown of Season 4 of TWD. Yet I keep getting the "loading loading loading' bar. It turned the episode called "Internment" into "Interminable." I have no slow downs with the interwebz. I pay for high speed crap.

So why does it do this? I tried work-arounds...backing up to let more load.

If Netflix wants my money, they need to figure this shit out.

monster 12-22-2014 08:44 PM

I just finished it

Clodfobble 12-22-2014 10:13 PM

What kind of box are you watching Netflix on? Are you able to start other episodes of other shows just fine? Every once in awhile the data tables get screwy and it helps to just reboot.

monster 12-22-2014 10:43 PM

on mah putah! the rest of the fam can watch other things on the tv/ipods and such the same time, usually just fine

monster 12-22-2014 10:44 PM

oh you meant infi.......

glatt 12-23-2014 07:29 AM

what did you think Monster?

It would be cool to talk about, but can't do any spoilers until Infi is done. So there's not much to be said.

One thought that I had is that it would be cool to live somewhere that you could watch signal fires being lit all up and down a coast and see them all because the coastline is steep and curved slightly. But you would want those signal fires to be lit fairly often so you could enjoy it. Maybe like for every major holiday. Not more frequently than that, though, because they need to remain special. And you would want it to go in a line, like the wave in a stadium, because nobody wants to see the fires being lit all random. But maybe random would look cool too. We'd have to try it at least once.

How do you even build a fire up there? You'd need to carry a ladder around with you.

infinite monkey 12-23-2014 08:19 AM

Clod. I just turn on my 'smart TV' and bring up the netflix menu. I know at my brother's house they had some separate little thingy with a separate controller. And i never had any troubles over there.

I assumed I had everything needed with my smart TV and the wifi.

Oh, if you guys want to discuss the show here go ahead. I'll avoid it until I've seen it. I should have asked my netflix questions in another thread, anyway.

glatt 12-23-2014 09:03 AM

Actually, there's not really anything to discuss.

If we were all watching each episode at the same time, then you could discuss the latest developments, but once you've seen it, all you can really say is "oh, yeah, that person was the killer. I was surprised." or "I knew it!"

Clodfobble 01-02-2015 07:52 PM

Just started this last night! It's like British Twin Peaks, and we're both wondering if a dancing midget will make an appearance (no spoilers!)

Anyway, based on just the first episode we weren't blown away or anything, although it is clear that I am close to the end of my cycle, because the initial "mother of the dead boy losing her shit" scenes had tears streaming down my stupid hormonal face. But we definitely enjoyed it enough to keep watching.

footfootfoot 01-02-2015 08:39 PM

Glad you guys enjoyed it/are enjoying it. I thought I read there is a second season focusing on the rebuilding of the community.

The depiction of the paranoia and the secrets and suspicions seemed particularly apt.

infinite monkey 01-03-2015 10:21 PM

I finished it and I really liked it. I don't see a second season doing much for the story, but with the talent involved I could be wrong. Maybe it's like True Detective...where supposedly the first season finished off the first season and the second season is an entirely different story with different characters.

So now Imma let you finish, but (divert to new thread)...

Gravdigr 01-04-2015 03:12 PM

I dropped my first episode of Broadchurch last night (S1 E1). Don't think it'll be my kinda thing, but, it is just the first episode. It might grow on me, or evolve to something more my speed.

It appears to be depressing, in the same vein as "The Killing", but, we'll see.

What is it with the child victims these days?

footfootfoot 01-04-2015 04:38 PM

They are the new Hitchcock blondes.

Orange child victims are the new black serial killers. Wait. What?

That would be a great band name, The Hitchcock Blondes, or Hitchcock Blonde.

Gravdigr 01-12-2015 05:05 PM

Just finished the first season.

I can haz plot twizt?

Just like with 'The Killing', I can't help but thinking that working one crime (basically) per season is a lazy way of making a crime drama. You're stretching one episode for an entire season. It may actually be easier on the writers, though, as they have way more time to tie more things (clues) together.

But, then I've been spoon fed the discovery, and the solving of the crime in 42 minutes for almost forty years now.

I don't like change.[/Stewie Griffin]

BigV 01-13-2015 09:52 AM

watching the crime unfold (again and again) and the revelation of clue after red herring after clue is only one way to enjoy the show. observing the interaction between the characters is an ongoing story, one that has the potential to change from week/show to show.

by the way, Twil and I watched "The Killing" and were similarly struck by the permanent torrential downpour that tried to drown the characters in practically every outdoor scene. We were all 'wtf?' You mentioned your surprise at my mention of sunshine the other day. Trust me, we were just as flummoxed by the set design of "The Killing" as you were.

I hasten to add that there *is* a traffic hazard endemic to the area regularly reported on the traffic reports at certain seasons of the year: "Sunbreaks". Yep. Drivers are warned of other drivers being distracted by the shocking appearance of the sun.

BigV 01-13-2015 10:01 AM

well dammit. I can't find it *now*, of course. But yesterday Twil shared with me a trailer of the new season of Broadchurch. Let me tell you now, stay the fuck away if you haven't seen all of the first season. Spoiler is an understatement. At the same time, it sets the tone for a very confusing second season. Yikes.

I posted a clip below the Stewie quote, I am certain of it. I wonder what happened to it?
