Pick my weekend movie
I think it would be really cool to see Jurassic Park in 3D. I've not seen any of the new 3D movies so I wonder if it's worth it. Do you think the 3D really adds to the suspense of a movie like that?
Also, the Evil Dead remake is out. I've read it doesn't have some of the absurd humor of the original. It also relies a lot on gore. But...if it's scary Imma love it. And it stars that darling Jane Levy from Suburgatory. |
Have you seen Jurassic Park already? If so, do you want to see it again?
I think 3D is a gimmick, and can be moderately entertaining, but isn't anything to get excited about. In fact, when a movie is offered as regular or 3D, I'll choose the regular version because I find 3D to be a little distracting. Plus it's usually a couple bucks more expensive. |
[groucho]and after you pick my movie I'll let you pick my seat[/groucho]

Other: write-in:
I don't know that's why I'm asking you. ;) |
I honestly don't know. Seems to me that a good 3D movie would be designed from the ground up. There might be some scenes in JP that lend themselves to good 3D, but I don't think it was originally filmed with 3D in mind, so I'm not sure it would be all that impressive.
|
It's been 20 years since Jurassic Park... wow.
|
Write-in: Have you seen Troll Hunter yet?
It's in a foreign language, so you can feel all highbrow, but it's a fun horror/adventure/comedy movie. |
I like foreign films, but they don't really market them in my immediate area (podunkville, that is.) It looks awful 'actiony.'
|
3D is a gimmick, I've only see a couple but i haven't seen it add anything to a film that good cinematography can't do.
Troll Hunter is great, if you don't mind watching foreign movies with subtitles, you may well really like it. It streams on Netflix, not sure how else you can see it. We have Skyfall on DVD ;) |
I was really hoping that the new Oz movie would go 2D to 3D at the same time that they went to widescreen and color, but they were 3D the whole time.
But they did take advantage of the opportunity of having the black boxes on the sides of the screen to have some of the 3D effects really come out of the picture. |
I don't mind subtitles, but I really don't seek out actiony movies. Skyfall, isn't that the new "James Bond" one? Yeah, no. My Inner Bond Girl only likes the Roger Moore era. ;)
Don't do netflix (I need a new computer, new TV...even a GOOD actiony flick won't seem like much on my tiny old-school TV.) |
Troll Hunter has a handful of action scenes, but it's mostly suspenseful with a lot of running around in the dark woods being scared of the boogie man. Beest is right though, you'll only find it on Netflix.

I'm so glad we had this time together
Just to have a laugh or sing a song Seems we just get started and before you know it Comes the time we have to say 'so long.' Good night everybody! |
It doesn't matter what you see or what you do, you are the most exciting, independent, and amazing woman on earth. You could even go see The Movie of the Unwashed Masses and you would shine like a brilliant star.
|
Awwww shucks, you're just buttering me up. I'll buy me, I mean you, some popcorn to go with that butter, when I, I mean we, go to the movies. :corn:
:) |
The first 3D movie I saw was Avatar.* I saw it in an IMAX 3D theater and thought it really added something. I've seen several other regular 3D movies and have only been disappointed by the poor use of 3D.
* I'm not counting seeing that Michael Jackson 3D (Captain Neo?) movie at Disneyland in 1987. That made me nauseous. |
I saw Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams but that had to be in 3D because you needed to see the depth and dimension of the cave surfaces i order to really get a sense of the caves. I took the glasses off at one point and the movie was dull.
In order to really work, a 3D movie has to be shot in 3D and even then, it often doesn't work because of other camera/lens quirks like depth of field. Using select focus (some things sharp, others not) defeats the purpose of 3D, there are times when you can't have everything sharp even if you wanted to. It worked in Herzogs film because they were conscious of the technology. And there were a few times when it didn't work in that movie because of aforementioned limitations. That's all I got. |

I think I'll chuck the Jurassic Park idea, and just go see Evil Dead.
I thought it might be an opportunity to see some neat effects because, as I keep saying, I have little interest in actiony fantasy 'running around in otherworlds' movies. Jurassic Park was fun enough, and had that little hint of 'could it happen?' necessary to make me interested, but the 3D doesn't sound worth it. Thanks for the input: one for Jurassic Park and 4 "others", and I was 2 of the others. Think, if I hadn't included the write-in I would've had one answer. That's what I call teamwork. You're all fired. And mean. :( Thanks for the input though, all y'all up thar. ;) |
Oh, also I go to the first showing of the day because it's only $4.50 to get in. I suspect I'll have a much better theater experience at an 11:25 a.m. Rated R movie than I would at movie that will draw a lot of kiddies later that day. I should have the front section all to myself.

Other: tv boxset with a pizza delivery
|
I think that's a good idea...the pizza thing I haven't done in a while. I'll pick up the next two discs of Brothers and Sisters and veg out and eat pizza. I need to veg out.
|
That sounds a good plan to me.
|
for Dana's eyes only: And I just got a new sack of veg materials. *wink wink nudge nudge*
|
Yes. I'm nosy.
At the risk of being Debbie Downer, I have heard that it can be risky ingesting "vegetable materials" whilst also taking certain prescription drugs. |
That Debbie...don't even let her into the house, man! ;)
|
Just be careful, doll. We don't need anymore heartbreak.
|
I'm a pro. ;)
No, I appreciate your concern, but it's OK really. |
Boy am I a noodge.
Watched a little TV last night, went to bed at 10-ish. I still slept until noon. Really, if my body tells me to sleep more on Saturday I do it. With everything that's been going on at work I've been exhausted. It felt good. I have the next two discs in the TV series (I'm at the library now) and I am going to take myself out to lunch, and then enjoy the warming weather. |

I honestly don't know. Seems to me that a good 3D movie would be designed from the ground up.

Well, hello chris! Welcome to the cellar :)
