02/28/03: Sliders

Folks, the very first episode of Sliders will re-air on the Sci-Fi channel in 39 minutes! And immediately following that, episodes 2 through 5 will air, all in a row. It's a mini-Sliders marathon! I've caught a few episodes from the 4th season recently, and it seems like a really good show. I can't wait to see how it all started!

Don't know how many of you get the Sci-Fi channel, but if you happen to be browsing the Cellar when I first post this message, maybe you'll like the show.

Incidentally, today I am celebrating my 27th birthday. I was born on leap day, which does not come this year. Since I grow a year older every year, I celebrate my newfound age on the 28th.

Hell, it's my birthday, I think I'll just skip class and watch this. I can just read the textbook for what I missed!

[edit - am I the only one who feels obsessively compelled to edit and re-edit their messages for mistakes and clarity? Hell, I think I spend 3 times as much time editing for clarity than I do composing the actual message!]

happy birthday juju, and go ahead and skip class. One of my friends birthdays is today too(it's his real birthday) I'll have a beer for you tonight.

juju 02-28-2003 10:34 AM

Thanks! :)

juju 02-28-2003 10:36 AM

Hey, also, if you miss the show and have broadband, I can hook you up with a Divx of the shows.

perth 02-28-2003 10:42 AM

happy birthday juju!

I typically type in BBEdit, proofread/rewrite obsessively (depending on length), give up and go back to MUDing, re-rewrite, post, and then fix all the stupid typos I happen to notice rereading it.

So, no.

Griff 02-28-2003 11:36 AM

Happy false Birthday!

Nice Timing

There's a lovely coincidence at work here that allows you to celebrate your 28th on the 28th this year, and your 29th on the 29th next year. Happy Birthday!

wolf 02-28-2003 11:51 AM

Happy Birthday, Juju!

99 44/100% pure 02-28-2003 12:33 PM

Darn. Make that WOULD HAVE BEEN a nice coincidence.

juju 02-28-2003 01:28 PM

I have just learned that my wife is pregnant!

To Whit, and anyone else that is from my local area, please keep it a secret for now so that I can tell people in person.

Undertoad 02-28-2003 01:33 PM

Congratulations!

- or -

Sorry to hear that!

...whichever suits your state of thinking at this time.

Griff 02-28-2003 01:38 PM

Sounds like a congrats moment. Cool! You have no idea how huge this is going to be.

perth 02-28-2003 01:41 PM

thats awesome juju! congrats to both of you!

~james

juju 02-28-2003 01:42 PM

Yeah, I don't really think it's sunk in yet. I feel the same way I did before I knew.

I do know that we'll be fine, though. My wife and I work very well together as a team. And we were planning on having kids already, just not so soon. We were going to wait until after I graduate and get a good job. As it is, I graduate in December, so we're not that far off the mark!

perth 02-28-2003 01:52 PM

we werent planning on having a kid for a while either. we wanted to wait until we were ready, but in retrospect, we never would have been 'ready'.

youll love being a dad, and i know youll be very good at it. i know its early to ask, but are you thinking of finding out what gender it will be?

~james

juju 02-28-2003 02:24 PM

She says she'd like to not know, but it seems like we haven't really thought about it much yet.

perth 02-28-2003 02:31 PM

we spent the first few months feeling like we didnt want to know, but i think a combination of curiousity and people wanting to buy appropriate clothes made us decide to find out. of course, when theyre that small, gender-neutral clothing is easy to come by. sometimes i wish we had been surpised though. i think when (if, my wife would say) we have another we wont find out.

Wow! Congrats, Juju and Mrs. Juju!!!

That's one heck of a birthday present.

slang 02-28-2003 05:05 PM

Congrats Juju!

I am very happy for you !

-or-

Sorry to hear that ( you have made my life seem simpler and more enjoyable in comparison)

Thanks, Slang. :)

I submit to the kind inhabitants of the Cellar, Exhibit A:

And finally, we have a doctor's appointment set up. It's for the Monday after next. 10 days from now. Man, I hate having to wait that long. I want the "official test" done! I'm not allowed to tell people IRL until then.

These tests are supposed to be 99.99% accurate, though. So I suppose there's little doubt. Still, the wife fears that she may go through all the emotions and excitement just to find out the test was wrong. I'm pretty confident that won't happen.

You know, the funny thing is, she never got sick. She's missed two periods, and she never had morning sickness (is that the term for it?). She said one of her co-workers found out she was pregnant recently, and she never got sick either. Man, and I thought it was such a reliable indicator!

perth 02-28-2003 06:10 PM

yay!

on our fateful night, we picked up the same test, read the instrutions together, which included something to the effect that confirmation of pregnancy would take about 3 minutes.

i started making dinner while she went and did her thing. not more than 30 seconds later, casey walks into the kitchen and says:

"that didnt take no 3 minutes!"

:)

you probably had to be there.

elSicomoro 02-28-2003 06:52 PM

Shit...UT and Slang beat me to it.

So long as you and the missus think you can handle the responsibilities that will come with a child (including the financial ones), then it's all good.

You sound excited, so congratulations...and happy birthday, you two-toothed, inbred, party-line using hick. :)

Undertoad 02-28-2003 10:02 PM

Ew, she peed on that and you took a picture of it! and posted it! ewwwww!

elSicomoro 02-28-2003 10:06 PM

Those crazy Arkansans...

juju 03-01-2003 12:20 AM

Hey, it's history, dammit!!! Besides, it's just chemicals. Let go of your inhibitions!

As an added bonus, my mother has been a Registered Nurse in the Labor and Delivery unit of a local hospital for nearly 30 years. So we'll have her to look out for our best interests in those matters that we know so little about.

juju 03-01-2003 12:35 AM

If it's a girl: Sarah Elizabeth Morton

If it's a boy: Dalton Wray Morton

My Father's name is David Wray Morton, my brother's name is David Wayne Morton, and my name is Donald Wray Morton. So we all have the same initials, and I just thought it would be kind of cool to do it again. I don't imagine it's something that could go on for very many generations, as there aren't very many good male 'D' names. But hey, why not keep it going as long as possible?

Mrs. Juju can walk into any Planned Parenthood (or similar non-profit women's health care provider), pee in a cup, and have the "official" results in 5 minutes. If you're feeling generous after that, write them a nice donation check, in honor of Little Juju-[ette]to-be.

That Guy 03-01-2003 09:17 AM

Congrats, and Happy (belated) bday!

juju 03-01-2003 12:13 PM

Hmm.. that's a good idea. Convincing her to go is another matter, but I'll give it a try. :)
