Wow. He's been banned ... or worse, sent to Coventry? Whatever that is.

I gather when one is sent to Coventry, one ceases to have existed here in the Cellar. Wiped out. Erased.

Good.

(I've had no internet for the past three days and totally missed whatever went down last night.)

Pete Zicato 10-07-2013 12:43 PM

For anyone who checks in from tapatalk, it's a pain the rear.

Gravdigr 10-07-2013 01:08 PM

Too whoevah did this:

:thankyou:

footfootfoot 10-07-2013 01:37 PM

:big sigh of relief:

limegreenc 10-07-2013 04:04 PM

I'm gonna look at this as an early Christmas gif-t

Gravdigr 10-07-2013 04:30 PM

I see what you did there.

limey 10-07-2013 04:46 PM

I was on the verge of blocking someone for the second time ever in my Cellar history ...

Sent by thought transference

xoxoxoBruce 10-07-2013 04:55 PM

He was a little annoying, especially his waste of screen space, but some of his threads did get interesting after he got out of the way.
I wouldn't put him, or anyone, on ignore, never have. I'm perfectly capable of ignoring people without technical help.

Why back in the day we ignored people for miles, through two feet of snow, uphill both ways... now get off my lawn. :p:

lumberjim 10-07-2013 05:04 PM

This is just a temporary measure isn't it?

DanaC 10-07-2013 05:29 PM

It usually is. Otherwise he'd just be banned.

That's generally my way of dealing with Cellar annoyances. I don't like using the ignore feature. Think I used it once and it lasted about a day.

I find Bill annoying at times but also interesting. I was considering the ignore feature with him though, partly because I don't want to see real life death throes and they're hard to avoid in gif form and partly because my connection at home was really struggling to load pages with the gifs on.

I have a bad enough time with this piece of shit connection as it is without that additional load.

orthodoc 10-07-2013 06:28 PM

So ... he's been temporarily ghosted? How does this work? Is it the inverse of real-life ghosting?

jimhelm 10-07-2013 06:35 PM

as I understand it, a person sent to coventry can post as usual. the mods can see him. he can see what we post. we just can't see him. like a mass ignore button.

orthodoc 10-07-2013 06:48 PM

Nice. Utterly frustrating for a narcissist. And it is reverse-ghosting, as I suspected. Which is a bit like being stalked.

Thanks JH, I knew someone would eventually get around to it. :D

orthodoc 10-07-2013 10:27 PM

Thanks for the clarification. It still feels a bit weird, but since the board is open to lurkers there's really no argument ... except to ask, why is the Cellar open to lurkers/non members/stalkers?

I get it; nothing bad has happened so far. That doesn't mean it won't.

Undertoad 10-07-2013 10:35 PM

Bad things are always happening.

orthodoc 10-07-2013 10:40 PM

My thought exactly.

DanaC 10-08-2013 04:20 AM

If it wasn't open to non-members then people wouldn't get to read the odd pages that brought them here (often image of the day) and decide they like it enough to sign up.

glatt 10-08-2013 07:09 AM

A closed community would die off. We need to bring in and welcome new members on a regular basis. I had high hopes for Bill. He reminded me of Flint. Someone to come in and stir things up a bit. Oh well.

And all the talk of Coventry appears to have made him catch on pretty quickly. I was hoping to be able to amuse myself reading his posts for a while, like emma's. But he's gone.

lumberjim 10-08-2013 12:26 PM

Guess he never saw the porch scene from Fight Club

glatt 10-08-2013 01:01 PM

I don't remember what, specifically, happened on the porch in Fight Club. Which scene was the porch scene?

jimhelm 10-08-2013 01:07 PM

I can't find a good you tube clip.

Tyler has the Space Monkey recruits stand on the porch for 3 days enduring insults and orders to leave, threatens to call the police, to hit them with a shovel... and if they stand fast.... they are accepted.

Robert Paulson gives up early but Ed Norton chases him down and tells him to hang in there. (one of the scenes where the duality of Tyler doesn't really fit.... you'd think Bob would have reacted differently if there was only ONE Tyler) ...anyway.... If BW gave up that quickly, it might just be a good indication that he is NOT willing to change his act enough to fit in. And it's such a minor thing. I enjoyed the 'performance', but you had to know it would end badly.

glatt 10-08-2013 01:13 PM

There are so many awesome scenes in that movie.

When he's at work in some conference room and just smiles that crazy bloody smile. I'm chuckling now just thinking about it.

lumberjim 10-08-2013 01:15 PM

The corn flower blue tie.

"Maybe you shouldn't bother me with every stupid thing you find in the copier" SNAP (yanks the paper away)

glatt 10-08-2013 01:31 PM

Again, at work, beating himself up.

Sundae 10-08-2013 02:16 PM

I had him on ignore because I don't like nasty surprises.
I'd check the replies and decide whether to view each post on an individual basis. It was weary.

Cov's okay. Got a good curry scene.
And sadly a thriving prostitute business.
Depends if he's as bad-ass as he writes he is I suppose.

I don't think he really wanted to be here. I mean we welcomed Nelson111 who pretty much just slipped in under the radar. I think I did too. Not all Dwellars arrive with a crash-bang-wallop. Obviously I can't name anyone else who did because they were the sort of Dwellar who you suddenly realised had been posting for a while.

True, we do need big personalities. And maybe we need some new blood. But as I said before, in the pub analogy we do not need people who decide to dance on the pool table.

Unless we're having a lock in.

lumberjim 10-08-2013 03:27 PM

I could start acting up, if you like.
You know, pick a few fights, call people names, shit like that.

No?

DanaC 10-08-2013 03:50 PM

As long as you do so verbally or with static images, that'd be peachy.

Seems to me I asked once. I think gifs can be turned off for avatars.

Gravdigr 10-08-2013 05:22 PM

Or we could just not have animated avatars.

Aliantha 10-08-2013 05:49 PM

I'm glad he's gone. I found him patronising from the start. It took me about two days to put him on ignore with his stupid gifs. Mostly I view from my phone now. It was irritating.

lumberjim 10-08-2013 08:27 PM

Ladies and gentleman, let's get ready to

Griff 10-09-2013 05:45 AM

I stopped clicking his threads pretty early on. I figured if he stuck, he'd eventually find his persona. He didn't stick.

Gravdigr 10-09-2013 09:06 AM

Uzzy: Wait, what's that? Let me get a closer look at that. Oh, it's a mat. SNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFFF. It smells lovely as it looks. Ima hang out here for a while, with my new friend, Mat.

I love you, soft, warm Mat.

lumberjim 10-11-2013 02:53 PM

Honest to God, when I played gigs, drumming, if there was one person in the audience whom I could see watching my hands, really understanding what I was doing, that made my night.

Something every doc hopes after spending three times more time than he/she actually had, given the rest of the clinic/ER needs, to repair a too-complicated lac that no consultant would come in for ...

never mind. It's a nice fantasy.
