Keryx is Broken

Keryx has a detached retina and needs an operation. We will know more later on this week I hope.

Undertoad 09-17-2016 04:22 PM

Sorry to hear of this, wishing Keryx the best.

xoxoxoBruce 09-17-2016 04:23 PM

Bummer, but she'll have a eye patch for talk like a pirate day.

lumberjim 09-17-2016 04:28 PM

Oh damn

glatt 09-17-2016 06:16 PM

I'm sorry! I hope the operation works well and she does ok.

xoxoxoBruce 09-17-2016 06:58 PM

The shit they do with eyes these days is nothing short on amazing. It's scary and pain in the ass, but the prognosis is excellent.

monster 09-17-2016 07:33 PM

Scary as hell, but this has happened to a couple of people I know and the surgery was quick and quick to recover from -they eyepatch was the worst part. Go Keryx

Clodfobble 09-17-2016 08:59 PM

Speedy recovery!

As everyone says - love and hope and wishes.
It sounds awful, but she'll pull through. Must be even harder for you, seeing someone you love in pain.

BigV 09-18-2016 09:51 AM

Good lucky Keryx!

Gravdigr 09-18-2016 12:33 PM

That sucks.

She'll come through fine, though. Like the others said, the docs have this sort of thing figgered out pretty well by now.

Show 'em Boss Lady!

Gravdigr 09-18-2016 12:36 PM

What's involved in a detached retina, anyway? I mean, I know what it is, but, is there pain involved? I assume there is vision 'impairment', and all. I've never known anyone that went through this.

Nevermind, I just read a little on it.

xoxoxoBruce 09-18-2016 12:39 PM

Can't see shit until they fix it but no pain except in the ass.
Actually worse for Fargon than Kreryx.

Griff 09-18-2016 04:00 PM

Good luck to Keryx!

fargon 09-19-2016 06:38 AM

Thank you all for the good wishes. We will be hearing from the Doctor this morning. I hope that she can have her surgery today.

Spexxvet 09-19-2016 07:35 AM

Good luck, Keryx! The sooner the surgery is done, the better the results

fargon 09-20-2016 11:17 AM

She does not have a detached retina. She has Diabetic Retinopathy real bad, so we are going to deal with the diabetes. She has a physical Friday, then we will know more. Thanks for all of your good thoughts and prayers while we go thru this.

Gravdigr 09-20-2016 11:46 AM

Well...shit.

My vision is not what it used to be, and I'm preeeety sure I'm diabetic.

May be time for an eye exam. I assume Diabetic Retinopathy would scream "Hey look at me! Hey over here!" in a regular ol' eye exam?

Spexxvet 09-20-2016 12:04 PM

Diabetic retinopathy is leading cause of blindness in US adults.

Do what the doctor says, and get examined annually or more frequently

Undertoad 09-20-2016 12:07 PM

uh that reminds me Spexx is your office optometrist or opthalmologist.

(now that my blood sugars are absolutely normal)

(thank goodness mine started at the toes)

keryx 09-20-2016 03:40 PM

Thanks all. I'm getting treatment for my retinopathy and my diabetes.
What the optometrist thought was a detached retina is actually a blockage from leakage which may clear but the opthamologist scheduled laser surgery if it doesn't for Oct 20. The other eye is getting an injection next Wednesday.

Gravdigr 09-20-2016 03:52 PM

:fingerx:

xoxoxoBruce 09-20-2016 04:41 PM

A friend who is a type 1 diabetic, recently had the laser surgery with great results.

fargon 09-28-2016 11:23 AM

Keryx got her left eye injected this morning, she says that it is hazy and uncomfortable. But it doesn't hurt. Now I have to scoop the cat boxes and everything else around here. Now it is my turn to take care of her.

Gravdigr 09-28-2016 01:45 PM

Make sure you do it right.

'S good that it doesn't hurt.:jig:

classicman 09-28-2016 03:49 PM

Wishing her a speedy painless recovery.

BigV 09-28-2016 03:56 PM

Best wishes keryx!

xoxoxoBruce 09-28-2016 06:13 PM

After she's healed you may not know it for awhile, if she gets used to you helping out. :lol2:

We have the three Os: Ophthalmology, Optometry, Opticianry

Gravdigr 10-11-2016 02:03 PM

How's She Who Must Be Obeyed's eye doing?

fargon 10-12-2016 06:27 AM

They took measurements yesterday of her eye. They are going to put in an artificial lens to prevent cataracts. the surgery is next week, and I'm gonna have to scoop the cat boxes for a while. But they are expecting a full recovery.
Thank You for your thoughts and prayers.

Griff 10-12-2016 06:33 AM

Good to hear.

fargon 10-19-2016 11:04 PM

Well she goes in tomorrow morning for surgery. I'm a nervous wreck, and can't sleep. I worry about her constantly all the time anyway, and pray for her constantly. I know intellectually that everything is gonna be alright, but I still worry. Like Bob Marley said "Every little thing is gonna be alright".

If she's going in for a simple cataract removal / artificial lens implant, you can reduce your worrying substantially. The complication rate is low, but I know that's no consolation for a loved one.

classicman 10-20-2016 09:42 AM

Hope all goes well and she's seeing fine in no time!

xoxoxoBruce 10-20-2016 10:46 AM

Your job is to worry and scoop litter boxes. ;)

Those are other parts of the job.;)

Good luck Keryx!:eyeball::eyeball:

Gravdigr 10-20-2016 02:34 PM

Also, the Rev. Marley makes a good point.

Clodfobble 10-20-2016 02:46 PM

Keeping our fingers crossed that everything goes as planned, fargon!

fargon 10-20-2016 10:08 PM

She is feeling better. She goes in tomorrow to remove the bandages and to see if they did it right. Everyone of the nurses was very positive and reassuring. She feels good about the whole thing, maybe I'll sleep tonite.

fargon 10-20-2016 10:12 PM

She has diabetic retinopathy, and the surgery was to repair that.
