Plastic Spoons and Forks (Cellar GTG) count down

OK so there are 5 more days till Plastic Spoons and Forks. (feels the anticipation rize)

elSicomoro 06-16-2003 09:01 PM

Yeah, I'm pretty stoked. It should rock the fuck out...and if it doesn't, I'll make it so.

Unfortunately, Rho won't be coming due to health concerns, but that's alright...it just allows me to be more of an ass. :)

Elspode 06-16-2003 09:12 PM

Man, if I could afford a plane ticket...

Ah, shit...who am I kidding? If I could afford a plane ticket, I'd somewhere COOL and INTERESTING! You think I'd hang out with a bunch of computer geek losers like you guys!?? Hell with that, Hawaii, here I come!!!

Sniff...I'm not bitter or anything. Not feeling left out. Sniff...

Seriously, have a good time. Somebody had better take a bunch of fucking pictures...or even just pictures of people having BBQ and chatting.

warch 06-16-2003 09:24 PM

Those of us in more remote locals will just resolve to synchronize a toast. For those attending, what time (EST) should we all be sure to have a beverage in hand, raising it in unison? (As Syc is gettin' all downwith his bad self)

Bitmap 06-16-2003 09:25 PM

Hey UT you going to be there?

I'd like to meet the man behind the cellar.

elSicomoro 06-16-2003 09:41 PM

We're supposed to ride together, and I'll drag that s.o.b down to Chadds Ford kicking and screaming if I have to.

Undertoad 06-16-2003 10:08 PM

I committed to it, after telling everyone I'd commit to it and then lamely back out at the last minute.

perth 06-16-2003 10:34 PM

ill be sure to wave as i fly over on my way to london. :)

i wish i could be there, but an actual vacation will have to do instead.

~james

Elspode 06-16-2003 11:29 PM

Perth, I'd be happy to go to London for you and allow you an opportunity to attend the Cellar event. No...really.

I'll be in LA visiting my little brother so odds are any time you raise a glass, we'll be syncronized.

BrianR 06-17-2003 08:18 AM

I'm still planning to attend, but with the caveat that I may be called upon to be a boyfriend that weekend.

ETA will be sixish on Saturday.

If you have a party at the same time as Forks, it would NOT be the first time that we went International. ;) (one of the forks regulars ended up in England one year, so he arranged a party to be going on at the same time, and called us to report.)

Damn Griff, how are you going to deal with Los Angeles? Or is that why you'll be drinking so much while you're out there?

elSicomoro 06-17-2003 12:51 PM

It's supposed to be a great day weather-wise...84 and sunny...first nice Saturday we've had in Philadelphia in like 2 months.

I'd go with any time between 5p and midnight EDT...someone is bound to have a beer in their hand at any given time in-between then.

warch 06-17-2003 12:52 PM

Excellent.

As long as I don't have to do any driving and I'm on my medication, I'll be just fine. I'm good with people, its humanity that gets on my nerves.

cin 06-17-2003 03:56 PM

I know I'm new and all, but I'd like to suggest sporks as an alternative to your spoon and fork idea. Sporks are great.
Just a thought.

So you're part of the spork conspiracy, suppressing the value of my KFC/ Pepsi stock. No good Coke pusher!

xoxoxoBruce 06-17-2003 04:45 PM

Wait a minute, wasn't it Elspode going sniff, sniff? :D

Bitmap 06-17-2003 05:31 PM

There are now 4 Days and counting till Plastic Spoons and Forks, (sporks are not an option none of that genderbending plastic will be allowed)

Bitmap 06-17-2003 06:41 PM

Hey Wolf what type of food is usualy there? I know that it is mostly BYOF. and BYOB. But what can i expect?

elSicomoro 06-17-2003 06:53 PM

I myself am bringing some chicken burgers to grill, and I'll probably bring some potato salad and snack chips or something.

And beer...a case of Yuengling. While I won't have a whole lot of food to share, there will be plenty of beer to share. :)

Bitmap 06-17-2003 06:55 PM

I was thinking some where along the lines of a whole Pig, and i could cook it over the fire being provided by Bruce. er... reheat it i'll probably get a precooked one because i've heard that cooking a pig is a pain.

oo.. oooh... and in the morn'n i'm making WAFFLES! (not really i just like the quote)

xoxoxoBruce 06-17-2003 09:19 PM

No fire. I just supply wood for it.:D

Not for many years now, damn the responsibility of it all...

The only time I go sniff, sniff now is when I'm sick.

I plan on bringing a large bottle of Southern Comfort (regular not high test) and I dont plan on sharing. But look at it this way, I wont be drinking all of *your* stuff either.

Ok, I'll share a little. ;)

There are just 3 more days left till the Plastic Spoons and Forks Cellar GTG

xoxoxoBruce 06-18-2003 01:37 PM

Damn! Only 3 days!...I've got to get a perm!...and my nails look a fright!....Does this 50 inch belt make me look fat?.....What booze goes with oreos?

Elionwyr 06-18-2003 08:45 PM

Ok, here's a lame question:

I've realized I'm working on Saturday.

Is there any possible way of Schlepta-ing it to the shindig?

wolf 06-18-2003 11:11 PM

for the record .. it's Plastic Forks™. no spoons. yes, they will be available for eating things that fall through tines, but they're not in the name of the picnic.

Likely food:

Usual picnicky stuff ... dogs, burgers, wide variety of assorted extras (chips, cookies, cakes, fruity goodness, marconi salad). Somebody may get up the energy to make chili (often a forks staple.) Sometimes people think to bring chicken parts as well. In recent years bob has managed to remember to through a couple boxes of graham crackers, bags of marshmallows and chocolate bars (none of this hershey nonsense, incidentally, Ghirardelli chocolate bars ... for the s'mores. There's two reasons for this ... one G makes MUCH better chocolate. second, one of our regular attendees is a hardline vegan and the variety of dark chocolate bob buys does not contain any dairy products.)

I myself am showing up with a box of dogs and a box of hot beef sausages. Traditionally I bring the watermelon that is traditionally not eaten and is given to Bob's mom at the end of sunday cleanup. I'm still deciding whether I want to lug the damn thing down the hill.

Likely booze:

Beer.
There may be other bottles of this and that rolling around in the house or brought by other guests. Wine, mead, single malt scotch, brandy, hard cider that hard lemonade stuff. Sodas are also usually plentiful, although if you have particular requirements related to a non-sugar alternative, you might want to BYOB for that.

Other stuff you might want to bring:

Chairs, tents, air mattresses, bugspray, sunglasses, hats, frisbees, etc.

we probably have something on the order of 20 or so assorted citronella candles in the house that may do absolutely no good in reducing the insect, particularly mosquito, attacks.

Schlepta opportunities:

not so far as I know. This is southern chester county. The less countrified bits of the county barely have septa service, and this is fairly far out. The property is several miles off the route 1 + 202 intersection. I don't know that there's any public transit service to anywhere closer than West Chester.

Bitmap 06-19-2003 08:14 AM

OHh... The anticipation Builds Just 2 more days till (With the corrected title) Plastic Forks

still no luck on finding a pig

That's OK, I don't have a date either.;)

BTW, that Plastic Forks tm .

richlevy 06-19-2003 08:47 PM

Well, it looks like rain for Saturday. So much for making sun tea.

I'll be attending anyway. I stopped by the Entemann's outlet store and picked up cakes, lots of cakes.

3 French ("Freedom") Cheescakes
3 Fat-free lemon twist danish (danishes?) (danii?)
3 Ultimate Crumb coffee cakes
1 regular danish

I might have to leave one item at home. I was hoping for an apple pie, so I might stop in tomorrow to see what they have. I figure thats dessert for 40-50 people.

I still haven't decided on grillables. My personal favorite is D&W Beef Hot Sausage. Very nice kick. Maybe some chicken drumsticks marinated overnight in hot sauce and/or garlic.

Let the games begin!

elSicomoro 06-19-2003 08:52 PM

On a serious tip, who is actually coming? This is who I know of so far:

--me
--wolf
--slang
--bruce
--rich
--bitmap
--brian
--ut

I believe Dave is coming as well. Brian, is Dagney coming along?

Who else?

Dagney 06-19-2003 09:23 PM

I'm planning on coming at the moment.

There's a somewhat small chance that my Mother may have to have a procedure done tomorrow that may have her incapacitated for the weekend, which would mean that I'm not going to be joining in the festivities.

But as of right now, I'm digging for blankies and bug spray :)

Dagney

Undertoad 06-19-2003 09:50 PM

Latest forecast says there is a chance the rain could push off by Saturday afternoon.

Nothing But Net 06-19-2003 11:37 PM

Wish I could make it, but there's that 1200 miles away thing and all, you know.

Anyhow, y'all have fun now, heah!

wolf 06-20-2003 01:21 AM

Rain is not an issue for forks.

We survive.

Also, if you read the official Forks site you will see that Bob indicates that "We usually arrange to have beautiful weather that day. If, however, it looks like rain, please do not let this damp your spirits. Plastic Forks will be held rain or shine. Be there! "

There was one particularly memorable year where it was raining at my home in Ambler when I left, raining in Norristown as I went to the Genuardi's to stock up on some necessary supplies, and raining as I was driving down 202. When I hit the Chester County Line, it was like walking under an awning ... suddenly, no rain, and the sun was out.

I can't guarantee anything near as spectacular for this year, but I'm just warnin' yah.

In all the years we've been doing this, we've had brief rain twice, and have made excellent use of it each time. Umbrella Frisbee requires a certain amount of skill. (the umbrellas were not USED as Frisbees, they were held by the guests as they played Frisbee.)

Fear not. We won't end up eating raw hotdogs. With sufficiently large amounts of lighter fluid, ANY grill can be started. ;) (If it doesn't go "BOOOMF" when you toss the match on, we didn't put enough on.)

Hope all goes well for your mom, Dagney! I'm hoping to be able to meet you finally.

Everything that folks say they are bringing sounds AWESOME. Don't worry, Bitmap, if you can't find a pig. Maybe one will wander loose from a nearby farm and someone will have to defend themselves from the ravages of the wild boar. There's a herd of deer that wander around the property too. Maybe one will have an "accident". You never know.

Sounds good. If that is to be the arranged time of toasting, I'll make sure that my thermos cup is filled with my beverage of choice. :)

xoxoxoBruce 06-20-2003 10:24 PM

The road I live on is closed because it's underwater. My sideyard is flooded and the creek is rising. More rain is coming and we're under a flood warning. If the creek gets up to my house.........
I'LL BE THERE EARLY.:p

richlevy 06-20-2003 10:40 PM

I'll be coming past the intersection of 202 & 1 at 4:00 (ok maybe 4:15). If anyone is taking public transportation in I can give you a life the last few miles.

The excitement is indeed building.

Slang is here, and currently sleeping (I assume sleeping, I've been at work, he could be passed out) on my couch, gathering energy for tomorrow's festivities.

See y'all there. :)

I want photos.

AstroJetson 06-21-2003 10:46 PM

It was quite the event, cool people, warm bonfire, bright stars (for a few moments) and loud fireworks. There was even Cream Cheese.
