Another Forum with a bunch of high school/ college kids.

www.razoroye.net

Another forum with lots of fun. I needed to get out of it. Those kids where driving me insane.

This is disconcerting - and I don't mean to interfere with anyone else's boards.

But there's a problem. Someone has taken my handle - "razoroye" - and is using it to post on here. Now, I don't have a problem with the using of my handle, that can't be controlled. The problems are these:

1. they used MY e-mail address - which is how I found out about this place. I got an e-mail saying that someone responded to my message. Only I never posted one. And, as a forum admin myself (granted, I only have a website that caters to my high school students - present and past - nothing the size of this place - wow!), I knew that meant someone used my handle and my e-mail to register

2. he/she posts this message (above) as if he/she is actually me and then make a derisive comment about my feeling towards my students which is completely fallacious and unsupported.

3. Finally, he/she then uses my website in the URL section of the user profile and claim that it is his/her website - it is not. www.razoroye.net is my property.

Personally, I do not want to be associated with the comments made by whoever this person may be.

If at all possible, could user "razoroye" be deleted?

Again, I am very sorry to trouble the mods and admins with this - I don't mean to muck up your boards. And I would appreciate it if my requests could be accommodated. If not, just let me know why. Or, if there are further queries or concerns, I'm all ears.

If it cannot be deleted, could the user simply change the information so that the impersonation is not so direct?

Thanks!
The real RazorOye (never thought I'd have to say that)

lumberjim 11-19-2003 07:58 PM

oh, christ. her name wouldn't be april , would it?
17 w/ a baby?

elSicomoro 11-19-2003 08:11 PM

The razoroye board appears to be based in...Houston.

Undertoad 11-19-2003 08:11 PM

April has already copped to starting the razoroye handle.

If you would like to filter her away from here from your end, please do.

elSicomoro 11-19-2003 08:14 PM

Yo Toad, why is "razoroye" on my ignore list now? I didn't put her there...

Undertoad 11-19-2003 08:29 PM

It turns out that's what happens if a user is outright removed.

Pretty irritating, huh!

Torrere 11-19-2003 08:31 PM

Ha! Dude, you're awesome!

May I also hope, having recently passed an English 4 class, that you do not assign inane wordsearches to your students?

elSicomoro 11-19-2003 08:32 PM

If that's the case, how do you delete the spammers, and how did you delete parmenion?

where?

Undertoad 11-19-2003 09:00 PM

Private message.

I always delete the spam posts. I guess I could still delete this one. The Parm behaviour - I dunno, maybe we were on the previous version of the software.

lumberjim 11-19-2003 09:18 PM

Gawd, what a nut job. Sorry, Dave.....looks like this Asshat is unsaveable. I had such dreams for her, too.....hummm....

UT,
Are you gonna block the IP before we are overrun with teenage girls bent on the bubblegummification of your heretofore Adult Swim type of msg board?

|24ZO|2 OY3 12-13-2003 10:55 AM

Thanks for getting this matter straightened up.

It was April who was using my handle and I spoke to her in class about internet forum propriety, something - judging by some of her other posts here - that has eluded her.

In a pm, she confessed to using my name:

Quote:

I tried to get it deleted don't be mad I'm SO sorry!
Your not mad are you it was just a joke.
I will also say that the school's IP address has been successfully blocked by cellar Admin. so her access to internet forums is much more limited - I don't think she has access from home.

Just one final note - I couldn't help but notice a few comments related to internet site availability and access from MCHS (no sense in trying to keep the school's name secret anymore - someone was already preoccupied enough to become internet sleuth and ferret the information out).

The program used by KISD is called BESS but during its years used by the school district as the contracted filter of choice there has been rampant access to pages students should NOT be accessing from school. I agree with all on here - cellar.org is not a place for bored teenagers to be traipsing about (I like the term "bubblegumification" by the way). Students have routinely been able to access pornographic cites, chatrooms, forums, music sites and other sites that have - at the very least - questionable material.

Due to its documented failure, the district is terminating the contract with BESS and is searching for another filter - one that will block sites such as this.

Those of you who disagree with a student's latitude to surf pages like these are absolutely right - and the school district seems to agree. But software inefficiency hasn't seen that objective realized.

For what it's worth, I am sorry for any inconvenience that there's been. Surfing through some of the other forums, I'm amazed at what has been stirred up. I should've simply given the school's IP address when I posted my original message and some of this could have been avoided.

This seems to be an amazing forum community - congratulations. But I know that the past couple of months have been trying for everyone here.

But she didn't lie about *every*thing - we did just finish Metamorphosis in my attempt to set them up for Absurdism next semester. I think, though, that it was mostly an effort in futility - existentialism is a tough concept when many students still need to master the basics of comprehension and writing.

But sometimes an intellectual outlet is desparately needed.

In any event, thanks for the help in getting this matter straightened out.

Oh, and a note to lumberjim - we (i.e. April and I) are definitely not the same person. All the same, though, I am flattered that you'd think me clever enough to concoct such a complicated scheme just to test your psychological responses. Such flattery from someone who doesn't even know me really lifts the spirits.

Razoroye has one hell of a GI Joe collection.

elSicomoro 12-13-2003 11:31 AM

Jealous that they're not part of your dodad collection? :)

Santa asked a girl sitting on his lap what she wanted for Christmas. She replied "Barbie and GI Joe". Santa said "But, Barbie comes with Ken". The girl said "No, she comes with GI Joe; with Ken she fakes it."

(Now this newbie will find out if this kind of joke will get her banned.)

elSicomoro 12-13-2003 11:37 AM

Why would that joke get you banned? That was funny. :)

I was trying to get a feel for this place, but it was hard to get past all the people quitting threads. That's really boring when you don't know the people and history.

Do y'all have a Cliff Notes version of this forum? ;)

lumberjim 12-13-2003 11:48 AM

have you heard of divorcee baribie? It costs like $500 but, it comes with half of Ken's stuff!

Well, that's not really true. What about filters that deny every site except those that are on an "allow" list?

Two problems: they are next to worthless for research, and domain names occasionally change hands.

Of course, if the goal of eliminating "bad" pages far outweighs the goal of providing the resources of the internet, they are the best, though imperfect, way to go.

SteveDallas 12-14-2003 01:20 PM

In that scenario, you're usually better off just not providing a connection in the first place.

juju 12-14-2003 01:39 PM

What sort of research do kids in high school need to do?

wolf 12-14-2003 01:40 PM

I think they don't use libraries anymore, juju.

juju 12-14-2003 01:52 PM

Kids used to use libraries?

Undertoad 12-14-2003 01:57 PM

Yeah, for detention - aka The Breakfast Club

Ummm...for research papers?

wolf 12-14-2003 02:21 PM

It was probably determined sometime after you graduated, syc, that "doing research" might damage the self esteem of some of the children, and was therefore banned from the school system.

Also, bear in mind that juju went to high school in Arkansas.

Hahaha... my nephew, who is in 10th grade, had to do a report on the planet Neptune. He had the brilliant idea of asking his astronomy buff uncle (aka me) for some good sources. He was moderately appalled when I recommended two books to him, in addition the the NASA/JPL web site. (I even, thanks to the Internet, verified that the books were available at his local public library. You'd think I'd recommended the thumbscrews when I told him, "They have a copy in the reference department. Just ask a librarian.")

xoxoxoBruce 12-14-2003 05:24 PM

Damn, that's cold Steve. Bwahahhaha. :thumb:

elSicomoro 12-14-2003 05:33 PM

This is probably just the nerd in me, but the library kicks all kinds of ass. The main library here in Philadelphia (on Vine St.) is fucking awesome...I need to get down there more.

I used to love going to the library as a child...spent many a weekend at the one near my house. Also spent a significant amount of time at various university libraries while in college, studying, reading, and discovering all sorts of magazines and journals I never knew existed.

Libraries rule! Reading whups ass! Knowledge rocks the fuck out!

Thank you. :)

LOL you're nuts. But...I gotta agree with ya there. I used to love the library too. I haven't been to a library in ages. My thing now is bookstores...I know, not quite the same thing, but close enough. :D

tikat 12-16-2003 01:53 PM

Libraries

I worked in a public library in high school. We got plenty of HS kids looking for information for papers.

I think it was the same area where Juju went to school. %^)
