quick math problem

Ok, I noticed that presently:

xoxoxobruce has has 5619 posts.
Undertoad has 5802

Bruce posts at an average rate of 10.34 posts per day
Undertoad posts at an average rate of 4.91 posts per day.

It is currently 4/8/04 at 11:05 in the pm.

When will bruce pass tony?

Undertoad 04-08-2004 10:52 PM

About three weeks.

And at 2248 and 12.26 posts per day, how long until you pass Bruce? 2 more per day and a deficit of about 3400 to make up, 1700 days or about 5 years.

lumberjim 04-08-2004 10:59 PM

I can do five years standing on my head.

In approximately 40 days.

xoxoxoBruce 04-09-2004 04:00 AM

Matters not. UT = quality content.

SteveDallas 04-09-2004 06:36 AM

Ummm if you can't do this math yourself, remind me not to let you run the numbers on any car loans for me!

:haha:

How many hard-boiled eggs can you eat?

lumberjim 04-09-2004 07:07 AM

i COULD do the math myself...and probably in my head if i wanted to, I just thought it might be fun for some of you math geeks....i was expecting someone to give me the exact time on a certain date.....

And I agree, bruce, quality not quantity....I was just making an observation.

Griff.....you're an odd dude.

Griff 04-09-2004 07:11 AM

mmmm... eggs

Skunks 04-09-2004 10:49 AM

The difference in posting rates was 5.43/day.

The difference in posts was 183.

Assuming the rates stay the same (very unlikely) and that posts are presented in fractional parts on a per-second basis (also unlikely), it will be 33.70165746 days; 808.839779 hours; 48530.38674 minutes; 2911823.204 seconds.

For the ease of calculation, 11:05 = 665/1440ths of a day, or .4618055556

There are 30 days in April. Given the time of day that LJ recorded his values and the fractional day-part required for the posts to synch, it will be in the 34th day that they meet. 8+34 = 42, 42 - 30 = 12th of May (a Wednesday).

This still leaves us with 33.70165746 + .4618055556 - 34, or .16346302 days.

0.16346302 days = 3 hours, 55 minutes, 23.2 seconds.

So, all things being perfect, the post counts will be equal at 3:55.23 on May 12th.

Undertoad 04-09-2004 10:50 AM

I am raising my rate of participation so that this doesn't happen!

That's what I'm talking about!

nice work, skunks!

bruce, make sure you increase your particiapation too!

the race is on....anyone wanna make an over/under bet?......in private so no one throws the match?

SteveDallas 04-09-2004 02:15 PM

I took the liberty of calculating the total number of posts to date (89,075 at the time I started this post) and the age of the Cellar (current incarnation) in days (approx. 1,177) and determined an average collective posting rate of 75.67 posts per day. This is far higher than any of the rates mentioned.

The reason I did this was to reassure myself that we were not in danger of having any one person amass more postings than everybody else put together!

lumberjim 04-09-2004 02:17 PM

hmmmm...i'll see what i can do......there MAY be a drop off in quality content, though.

This hardly seems possible ;-)

lumberjim 04-09-2004 02:29 PM

lol

lumberjim 04-09-2004 02:31 PM

eh?.....see?....

There are forums where lol is every other post....

or maybe i could, as some here do, wait until 2 days after a thread runs it's course, quote seven different posts, and interject these rofl's and lol's in between them....
maybe add in a "you go girl" or two?

hmmm?

Undertoad 04-09-2004 02:44 PM

me 2

SteveDallas 04-09-2004 02:44 PM

Well if you went that route your job would be easier because you'd drive everybody else's participation rate down!!

blue 04-09-2004 05:27 PM

You go girl!

You started the thread, you love the attention bitch! ;-)

<---- Gonna have to say something nice to LJ one of these days.

don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

blue 04-09-2004 05:40 PM

OK, I'll dedicate my 300'th post to you (AGAIN).

Elspode 04-09-2004 08:48 PM

Ah, shit... I knew LJ was only in it for the glory.

lumberjim 04-09-2004 08:49 PM

and the revenge. don;t forget the revenge.

tw 04-09-2004 09:39 PM

Should this math not be based upon number of words posted (trying to get into the race if pixels don't count as a thousand words)?

xoxoxoBruce 04-10-2004 09:14 AM

Ah, I smell a coup. :D

I think Radar and Jag would give you a run for your money there, tw.

Nothing But Net 04-10-2004 04:46 PM

According to my calculations, they will collide exactly 27.8 miles East of Springfield, Missouri.

lumberjim 05-01-2004 02:10 PM

update:
10.669077 days until bruce catches ut

Undertoad 05-01-2004 02:47 PM

I'm still bumping up my production to try to stave off the fast-charging competition. :)

lumberjim 05-01-2004 04:39 PM

yeah, whew....slow down...your average jumped from 4.91 all the way up to 5.00.......do your fingers hurt? :)

Undertoad 05-02-2004 10:10 AM

Hey man, that's over a 3 year period so any increase in the average is meaningful!

That's my story and I'm stickin to it

lumberjim 05-10-2004 10:20 AM

here it comes......

ut = 6069
xo= 6059

skunks projected may 12th:

i'm setting my alarm to check it at this time.......oh, ad this to the reasons why i'm not cool on that other thread.

Undertoad 05-10-2004 10:27 AM

And me with work to do and errands to run.

xoxoxoBruce 05-10-2004 03:34 PM

Oh joy, oh joy,....I get more posts and UT gets laid every weekend(minimum).
Guess I'm the big winner, huh? :(

Happy Monkey 05-10-2004 03:36 PM

Excellent. An Undertoad post directly next to xoxoxoBruce post, inside this thread.

Undertoad 05-10-2004 04:02 PM

That's a rather tall assumption on your part, B!

(Were we too obvious about it at the game?)

xoxoxoBruce 05-10-2004 04:05 PM

I have faith in you, master...bow...scrape...back out.

SteveDallas 05-10-2004 05:36 PM

Just remember, UT, don't do anything I wouldn't do.

Undertoad 05-13-2004 10:34 AM

I'm the loser now as she [is a lurker here] read Bruce's comment, assumed she was the butt of a locker-room joke or something, and it has blown up the relationship.

lumberjim 05-13-2004 10:51 AM

UT,

that's a bummer, but if the realtionship was that fragile.......

also, one comment does not a lockeroom joke brunt bearer make. whoever this lurker is must have seen more than I did, and i don't miss much on here.....

and thirdly, not very nice of you to lay that at bruce's feet.

Undertoad 05-13-2004 10:54 AM

All true. Sorry B, it really has nothing to do with you.

warch 05-13-2004 11:24 AM

Well rats...Flyers then, with a big bowl of queso.

Undertoad 05-13-2004 12:41 PM

Update: we talked through the fragility

Sometimes life drama happens too fast for the Cellar.

I have kept my personal life away from here on purpose but you know, either it's full disclosure or nothing and I can never pick which is better.

She said the Cellar is proof of my honesty to some degree because what I say about what happened in my life is backed up by a history of posts that happened at the time and confirm it all.

lumberjim 05-13-2004 12:57 PM

well, that's good to hear.

And welcome, Ms X. whoever you are. I hope you stay around longer than the 5 undertoadettes from last month.
:)

jaguar 05-13-2004 01:11 PM

god you're a bitch LJ :P
I think I'm catching you on posts too. I need to get out more.

"I think I'm your bitch, LJ you God. I need to get outed. I'm catching more posts too."

WTF!! Sorry to hear that, UT. For the record, discussions between you and I (about her) were zero, zip, nada.
Discussions between the two others guys and me (again about her):
ME - That's Tony's girlfriend.
Them (in unison) - I'd hit it.
That is the sum total of all discussions concerning her.
Chicks:rolleyes:
