?Administrative Professionals? Day is Wednesday
is this the same day that used to be called "Secretary's Day"
what the hell is so un'PC about the word "secretary"? it's not like they call it "Toots's day or Hun's day" Who the hell do these "Administrative Professionals" think they're fooling. Do they have a degree in Administrative Professionaling? I know this isn't news. I just think it's stupid why don;t we all come up with more high fallootin' names for our own jobs? those of us that have them. the rest of you can think of PC ways to describe eating bon-bons on the couch and watching soaps all day. i will now be know as an "Investment Protection Specialist / Automotive Budgetary Analyst" |
I think stewardesses started this stuff.
"Flight attendants" my ear; what the hell does serving coffee or cueing up a movie have to do with flying the plane? |
No, it's calledOffice Systems Technology now.

Nothing really. I think that they found the phrase "Adminstative Professionals" more pleasing. Is it so "bad" that they would like to be known as such? Quote:

I think one of the reasons the term "Administrative Professional" came about was to differentiate between their duties and those of a "Receptionist," since they both would be called Secretaries under the old system.
My friend is an Administrative Assistant at her company, and her job duties are essenially one step below HR Director. She's not anyone's secretary in any sense of the word, she's not even an assistant to the HR Director since they have different tasks. I think the difference is anything with "Administrative" in it means HR, while anything with "Operations" in it means "used-to-be-called-secretary." |
i see. so does your freind get flowers on Administrative Profesionals Day?
this is a racket perpetrated on us by the greeting card and flower industries isn;t it? |
Nah. She'd be offended that someone would be getting her something for Secretary's Day. :)
And yes, yes it is. It's all such a freaking waste--who wouldn't rather get a call or letter from someone instead of some insipid card? |
yeah, I'm nice to our office staff all year round. I rub their backs, i pat their bottoms when they do a good job, and i let them admire my ripling muscles whenever they want to. and if I should happen to forget to observe AP day, i feel like a jerk.
shut up, jinx, i was kidding....and they're old! |

Because we're afraid if we don't, someone in India will do it for us. |
You bitches better send me some flowers or I'll be hella pissed.
PM me for my work address. :) |
Oh man, i wish i had extra cash. and i already have your work address....such a shame. i'd pay to see the looks you'd get.
|
Would you sign it, "All my love, Jimbo"?
|
PC pisses me off.
Stewardess seem to frget that there were stewards as well. There's nothing wrong with egalitarianism as long as it isn't just obfuscation in disguise. |
I don't care what it is called, I'm going to try and hose my boss out of lunch on the basis that it exists at all.

i'm afraid i am serious. "undue burden" was a little over the top, i admit, but i exaggerate to make the point. I gotta figure that most receptionists refer to themselves as receptionists, admin asst's as admin asst's, etc. I guess it's a term they use to group all of these types of support staff under one label.
my main issue is with the renaming of all of the jobs, and the idea of the thread was to hear what everyone would like to be known as. it seems that everyone missed that, and is focused on my dumbass resistance to this one term. secretaries can call themselves "grand poobahs of clerical science" for all I care. i'm gonna call them secretaries, though. oh, and i still call black people black. unless they actually moved here from Africa, in which case i will call them "African Americans" i'm White. not European American. |
