4/27/2004: Record sandwich

http://cellar.org/2004/recordsandwich.jpg

There's some other Cellar talk of weighty Americans but this one is property of the Mexicans. It's the world's biggest sandwich, at 3.5 meters by 3.5 meters. It's ham, cheese, mayonnaise and lettuce.

They built it...

...and then they busted it up and served it and ate it.

That's very orange cheese and where the HELL did they find an oven big enough for the slabs of bread.

MMMM.....gubmint cheese

Leah 04-27-2004 05:07 PM

Can someone please cut my crust off. ;)

I know, I know, eat your crust and your hair will curl. It's NOT true, I've always eaten my crusts and I have dead straight hair. I think my mum lied when I was a little girl.

Pearcie (AUS) 04-27-2004 07:07 PM

LOL! Thats gold Leah! I was fed the same story by my Mum when I was a kid, but I never ate my crusts and I don't know many people (white people) with curlier hair than mine.

So that settles it, there's no truth to that 'saying' and there probably never was.

Leah 04-27-2004 07:11 PM

I know DP, I'm jealous of your hair. It's just not fair.

xoxoxoBruce 04-27-2004 07:34 PM

Don't be jealous, your hair is beautiful.;)

Leah 04-27-2004 07:40 PM

Gosh thanks Bruce . but I would rather naturally curly hair like Pearcie, he's got curls that would make any girl with straight hair jealous.

Pearcie (AUS) 04-27-2004 07:45 PM

Shux

xoxoxoBruce 04-27-2004 07:47 PM

Aw shaddap and eat your crust. You people with hair make me sick.:p

Leah 04-27-2004 07:47 PM

Don't go getting a big head now Pearcie. It's just the curls we like. :D

Pearcie (AUS) 04-27-2004 08:51 PM

Ouch! pulled back down to reality with a thud.

Thanx for keeping my massive ego in check Leah

:joint:

NOTE: Sarcasm used in this post.

elSicomoro 04-27-2004 09:02 PM

Crazy ass Aussies...

;)

Leah 04-27-2004 09:24 PM

And proud of it.:p

Bullitt 04-27-2004 09:41 PM

Eww...

Ugh.. wouldnt that mayo taste terrible after bein in the sun for so long ( in mexico..) ?

chrisinhouston 04-28-2004 09:28 AM

Ok, can somebody explain why this even happened? Ham and cheese isn't much of a Mexican delicacy, how about the world's largest enchilada?

And where do you find an oven big enough to bake bread the size of a mattress? Or was it just 2 slices off of the world's largest loaf of bread?

Mexico is plagued with corrupt politicians and police, poverty, drugs, illiteracy and if it weren't for the tourist trade at the resorts and islands they wouldn't have much of anything but dammit, they made the world's biggest ham and cheese sandwhich! Now that's something!

My only question is how will they eat it? That bread looks like it's a foot thick. Not exactly bite-sized, is it?

wolf 04-28-2004 12:10 PM

they'll eat it the same way the people on the Land of the Giants TV show did ... a handful at a time. Actually it's not that much different from the "nibble around the edges" technique that is sometimes required on a normally sized hoagie.

This is just too much calories for me. I can't handle this.

dar512 04-29-2004 08:48 AM

Ham sandwich. Booooring. Couldn't they have done a more interesting sandwich? Pastrami, maybe.

elSicomoro 04-29-2004 05:15 PM

"Who wants a free cheese sandwich?!"

chrisinhouston 06-05-2004 07:22 AM

There at it again!

Algeria cooks up couscous record
A catering college in the northern Algerian city of Tizi Ouzou has cooked the world's largest couscous.
The traditional north African dish was made from 2,600 kilos (5,732 lb) of dry semolina, meat from 100 sheep and 1.5 tonnes of vegetables.

Representatives from the Guinness Book of Records attended the event to ensure it complied with the rules.

The feat by both teachers and students surpasses the previous record - not listed by Guinness - in Tunisia.

It was made using a custom-made couscoussier, or traditional cooking pot for couscous, which was 14ft (4.3m) wide and 26ft (8m) deep.

A three-tonne stove was also built to cook the couscous.

Organisers said the finished dish could feed 22,000 guests.
