anybody cry at Reagan's funeral?
i sure did. too bad other presidents haven't taken his example.
|
I suspect I would have had I seen this morning's activities.
|
I admire what he did for eliminating the Capitalist/Communist dichotomy in the world, but I still have issues with Nancy's 'War on Drugs'. That ultimately has hurt this county in far more ways than the Soviet Union ever did. In fact, have we traded a totalitarian government across the seas for one on our own shores?

how in the hell can you say that?! this man unified germany, stomped out communism in the USSR and was a no-bullshit president. nancy was only doing what's right. educating kids about drugs and how bad they are for you. if you can't understand that, that's your problem.

OK, for the record I'm a manly man. But I was getting choked up watching Nancy watch the coffin. I watched the better part of the coverage the other night (anyone know how to spell caison?).
I did leave the room after she walked up to the casket. And it's because of her staying with him, protecting his dignity and image, being alone after 52 years. And the outpouring of love for a popular president, nothing about his politics here. I watched because I wasn't yet born when Kennedy was laid too rest, but the still images of the state funeral stuck with me all my life. The honor guard thing got to me a little too, because I knew they would be standing at absolute attention throughout the night, and days to follow, not like they were going to turn the lights off after the cameras were off and leave him there alone. Very emotional moment, surprised at how much so. Like him or not he truly believed in the US and inspired so many. I hope he left the surly bonds of earth and touched the face of god. |
blue, i couldn't have said it better. syc....;)

can't letcha down bra!
|
Hey! I have man boobs, but I don't wear no bra!
|
your confusing the comment with the "bro" lmao!
|
I automatically become teary-eyed over Amazing Grace, especially on bagpipes, but the presentation of the flag got me really started ... you know that way the widow always seems to clutch the flag to her chest and hug it when it's first presented? I was openly weeping by the time Nancy was saying her final goodbyes at the casket.
I was at work. Baby-girl, one of my ambulance crew, noticed. |
Reagan wasn't a great man. He was the exact opposite. He violated the Constitution, lied to the American people, spent the next dozen generations of Americans into debt at birth, he supported aparteid, he ignored people with aids, he violated civil rights with his "drug war", etc.
He was a true scumbag in every sense of the word. His bitter, nasty, manipulative, controlling, cold-hearted bitch of a wife gets no sympathy from me and he doesn't either. Reagan had NOTHING to do with the Berlin Wall coming down or the fall of the Soviet Union. He had NOTHING to do with the economic upturn of the 90's. And he had NOTHING to do with the release of the hostages of in Iran. He did have something to do with arming and training one Osama Bin Laden against the Afghans who later attacked us, he also gave bioweapons and other weapons to Saddam Hussein. He helped arm the people who fought the sandinistas who were the only democratic government in the area. Reagan had no honor, no integrity, no honesty, and no value to America. He will only be missed by those who like him are simple-minded. |
FUCK YOU ASSHOLE !!!!!!! :finger: :finger:
Show some respect . |
You fuck off. Reagan never earned any respect in his life. He isn't owed any in his death.

But most times (as in the case of Reagan) they don't.

Poor poor Radar , you must be SO lonely being SOOO smart and haveing to coexist with ALL us ignent fools . :( :(

I'm trying very hard not to instigate him unnecessarily.
Radar's opinion is his, and the likelihood of changing is about nil. Pig -->sing <> teach. |

But a person who actually believes Reagan was a great man or that he had anything to do with the fall of the Soviet Union is about as bright as a 2 watt bulb. In this case I could be hit in the head with a sledge hammer, and still have a superior intellect. |
Why do you stick around Radar?
If you're really such a hateful genius can't imagine what satisfaction you get hanging around us idiots. And if it's all an act, it's not really as entertaining as I imagine you think it is. April contributed more here than you do, you're just wasting space & bandwidth. Anyway you must get some satisfaction out of posting here? |
Because he's a troll that baits people, and we keep giving him more fuel. His comment about each state becoming its own country earlier in the week convinced me of it.

I think the ShitHammer (tm) made it over in the switch from BBS to online community. UT? Am I right?

Naw, that was more a KAOS thing, where MMM would delight at using his admin powers for evil and not for good.

I'm not going to argue with him about being an asshole, he makes that clear everytime he clicks submit. But man, posting crap like that day after day, I mean does anyone who's not a newbie even get too riled up by him anymore? I find myself noticing the name and I just scroll down automatically normally. What does he get out of it? Thats what baffles me. I'm sure he disagrees but he has become irrelevant really. I dunno, maybe some find him entertaining. Beats the shit out of me. Don't bother replying directly Radar...I don't care. |
Another point of view can be abrasive and as annoying as fingernails on the blackboard, but never irrelevant. I'm pretty sure ANY thoughts posted here, are shared by more people out there. That's something that, at least I, want to be aware of, no matter how violently I disagree.;)
|
Good point bruce, irrelevant I meant in a sort of cried wolf too many times way. I just got to the point of scrolling past his posts after awhile. So he did become irrelevant to me. If he contributes anything of value send me an alert.

See, I knew you aren't as dumb as you look in a cheese hat.:D
|
The really sad thing is that I don't own a cheesehat, I have a kickass Packer apron, get a decorated Packer tree every year, am on the waiting list, have all sorts of cool stuff...foam fingers, cowbells, ticket stubs...but no cheesehat.
Actually, I'm a diehard fan, a HUGE fan, just not an idiot. |
|
what, are you 'cheese hat profiling'?
At least they originated the idea. the idiots here in philly can't decide wether to go with cheesesteak hats or soft pretzel hats. |
I vote for Liberty Bell Hats. They would ring out for freedom, when they punch each other.
|
No, no, no!! Don't associate cheeseheads with us. We invented the Lambeau Leap! Think those happy thoughts instead.
We drink beer like fish, pretty sure we invented tailgating and if not we perfected it, we are the only fans who own the team, we go to Lambeau in February to party when they lose, we ride bikes to the stadium with the players, we kill the coach's dog (myth) if they have a losing season. The cheese thing is just fucking stupid. |
I don't really agree with and am not too fond of Reagan's political ideas and how he treated a lot of global issues, but there is one thing that did hit me about his death: he was, in neither a good or bad way, a part of my childhood. The man that made so many speeches to the public via the television and radio is now gone. good or bad, in agreement or not, he was very much present in all of our lives.
Another element of years passed is now gone. That, to me, hit harder than anything he stood for. (Honestly, I was too young to feel any effect, or even understand, what the man affected as President.) |

Now THERE'S a name I have been missing. What happened to him anyway? Last I checked, he moved suddenly without leaving a forwarding address or phone number. I also remember him having a huge dodad in his "dining room" in the form of a full dentists' chair and lamp with pedestal, but no tools. That I knew of. Still had his toy gun collection on the wall too. And piles of Apple computers lying about. Sometimes I miss the good old days! Brian |
From the cathedral on the hill, in the sacrament of light... ode to Ronald Reagan, fill our minds and make them right. From shining sea to next, across our great, great land... remind us of our blessing, and hold him oh so grand. Enshrine this child of the light, a worthy man to all... an American man of the ages, who did not stumble or fall. We toll the bell, 40 times, for thee on bended knee... rent from us this sorrow, and let us now be free. In twilight's last gleaming, upon this very eve... receive him through the parting gates, and help us cease to grieve. Rest now, be at peace. You've done so much more than you'll ever know. written June 11, 2004 by RD |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Fag. You got 'em, smoke 'em. :D |
wow.. this really got off topic... I've been waiting for the mud to surface around reagan.. I disliked his policies and for the most part I (loathingly) have to agree with Radar... although his timing could have been a little better.. I'm hunting down the list or reagan blunders and horrid policy*, I'll post it when I get it down well enough (and from reliable sources)..
I mean I didn't like reagan and I didn't like bush 1 but g dub.. he's the worst of the lot... and that's a sad thing when the repulbican party and the democratic party have switched places.. yeah I'm hunting that down too.. the downside being that I have run out of time right now.. but I'll get it up here tomorrow (tuesday) or the next day.. * I had a friend die of aids during the reagan seconds term... had terry known the disease existed and to what extent.. he would have been much more carefull (me? I was unpopular at the time.. and didn't really have to worry about it.. not that that much has changed :D and i've always been carefull, being a 'whoops baby' myself ..oops I mean uh... 'love child' ) |

Either way, get over yourself. A man who tries to flaunt his "intellect" and "IQ" comes across like the man who brags about the size of his dick, but always uses the stalls in public restrooms... it's all just an insecurity-spawned sham. You're not a moron, but nor are you superior. As far as observation can determine, your conceit is misplaced. Incidentally, I am not at issue with your points, only your presentation. |

Ah, perspective. |
I will always be more impressed with Reagan in that he had pretty humble and "average" beginnings, moved through all kinds of careers and ended up as Prez. He wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, didn't grow up having everything handed to him and he actually worked his way up. I've always been more impressed with how a person gets to his station rather than the station itself.
I was born only a couple of years before he took office and during his terms I couldn't even spell Apartheid, thought communism was a religion and, for much of that time, couldn't point out Germany on a map, let alone Berlin. Nintendo, Transformers and jelly shoes were much more important. Now I'm older and understand things that happened and I caution myself against giving one man the credit for so much. He alone didn't cause communism to fall. He alone didn't run the national debt to deplorable heights (or depths as the case may be). He couldn't have done a thing without Congress, without the Justices and certainly could have done nothing without the people who voted for him. So I would give the credit to everyone who made it possible for Reagan to, for example, stand up there and demand the wall to be taken down. He couldn't have done that with all the people who backed him. Way to go, youse guys! As far as his funeral, I wouldn't have cried...I'm not the kind of gal to cry at the funerals of people I didn't know personally. However, my eyes did mist over during the procession to the White House. It touched me how so many people gave their afternoon to stand 4-8 bodies deep along the street in the 90 degree heat for nothing more than a glimpse of the casket as it came by. It also touched me how many international figures came to say goodbye despite their current positions of power, their opinions of Reagan or the sides they fought on. Great big fat kudos to Gorby for coming to say good bye, that's Respect, that is. What will stand out in my mind the most though is the planes roaring over the casket as it reached 4th street. It had been planned for it to happen as they crossed 4th street. The whole procession was a few minutes behind schedule and there was worry that the planes would come too early or too late. But they pulled it off. PERFECTLY. The precision and timing of that manuever was flat out PERFECT and I was really glad they pulled it off. |
