6/24/2004: 20-foot-long hair

Thanks to doc for sending this along. This Vietnamese gent's name is Tran Van Hay, and he's got the longest hair on record. It was last cut 31 years ago... and last washed 6 years ago.

Long hair hippie freak.

jaguar 06-24-2004 01:22 PM

I want to show this to wannabe hippies with quasi dreads 3 inches long and make them cry. This urge is strong.

wolf 06-24-2004 01:24 PM

Many might do such a thing as part of some religious attainment.

I think this guy is just a Crystal Gayle fan.

Happy Monkey 06-24-2004 01:40 PM

I've only had one haircut in the past 15 years or so (and that one was at least 8 years ago), and mine's only down to my mid-back. He must have some hefty follicles.

Or maybe it sticks together better if you never wash it...

Clodfobble 06-24-2004 01:50 PM

Everybody has a length at which their hair just stops growing. You've probably reached yours, HM. I knew a guy once who couldn't grow long hair past around the middle of his neck. It frustrated the hell out of him since he was trying to be a hard rocker at the time. Cut it, and it would start growing again, but somehow it always knew to stop at that length.

jdbutler 06-24-2004 01:55 PM

Hey, that's the dink we scalped in 1963!

glatt 06-24-2004 01:55 PM

Or it would shed after the same period of time that was necessary to grow that length.

Happy Monkey 06-24-2004 02:05 PM

Yeah. It doesn't stop growing, it falls out and the follicle starts over every so often.

I, for one, welcome our new Ferengi overlords.

chrisinhouston 06-24-2004 03:01 PM

Well, his beard has some catching up to do! And check out those mean fingernails!

Guess 06-24-2004 04:17 PM

eww I wouldn't want to encounter one of his hairs lying around

Cochese 06-24-2004 04:20 PM

That'd be like walking around w/ a boa constrictor on your back/shoulders all day.

jaguar 06-24-2004 04:35 PM

why though?

Torrere 06-24-2004 06:20 PM

Nice beard! and a pretty cool mustache too.

Cyber Wolf 06-24-2004 07:28 PM

Heh...and I thought my hair could eat combs; that thing could probably devour the hairdresser too. Hmm...with a beard that color, you'd think his hair would at least start showing grey too. In hair THAT long, it'd be keen to see a long, smooth brown to grey gradient effect going.

paranoid 06-25-2004 07:54 AM

Is it just be or does it look like a giant piece of shit he is holding?

Under the hat the hair looks like it is grey. He just has 20 years of younger hair hanging around.

That thing must really stink if the last time he washed it was 6 years ago.

glatt 06-25-2004 03:43 PM

I bet after the first 6 months, the smell reaches a plateau, and never gets any worse. I won't be testing that theory though.

Oh, and welcome to the Cellar, KarenV.

I'm only guessing here but perhaps his toe nails look like this!

glatt 06-25-2004 04:14 PM

ew and yuck:vomit:

jaguar 06-25-2004 04:35 PM

jesus did you have to post that??

wolf 06-26-2004 12:19 AM

I've seen stuff like that live.

It's much worse in person.

jojomonkeygirl 06-26-2004 02:57 AM

I gotta ask....What the hell is the purpose? It's nasty, it probably stinks, it's gotta give him headaches, backaches, etc.....and I think that style makes him look much older than he really is.

I'm sorry....am I whinning?;)

For the love of God, I just saw the toenails....:whofart:

wolf 06-26-2004 09:03 AM

Hair doesn't look so bad now, does it?
