Have any anecdotes full of pure irony? Or just a one or two liner? I love irony so don't be afraid to share your most opposite of literal meaning moments here!!! I'm still try to dig up my best....so feel free to jump in! :D

I can't think of any stories off hand but I did come across this picture I thought fit the topic. ;)

Nice pic 404.....I especially like the double eclipse. And to some it could be construed as a triple eclipse. Finally dug up a blissfully ironic short tale.

Irony:
A friend of mine went to court. When she was waiting to be called up she got to watch three nuns vs. the state. They were convicted of destruction of public property (activist shenanigans) and................................sentenced to many hours of public service!!

Here's the rest of flippant's story. Actually, the nun's hadn't destroyed anything. They were part of a peace protest near a military installation located out on the plains, east of Colorado Springs. What they did was to hold hands and walk forward, saying a prayer for peace on earth. In so doing, they crossed the invisible line onto Schriver Air Force Base by about 2 feet. They were convicted of trespassing. The judge then tried to impose a sentence of community service upon them for their crime. One nun got up and looked the judge straight in the eye and said "I refuse to do community service as "punishment." I have spent the better part of my life giving service to my community. The court by its sentence is implying that my call to serve God and this community is so undesirable that it can be considered a punishment for a crime. I consider it to be both an honor and a gift to have served this community for over 20 years. I will not have my life's work mocked in this manner. You may send me to jail instead because I will do no community service at the order of this court. I will serve God, but not this judicial system. I find incarceration to be the only moral sentence that I will serve." And she sat down under the judge's stunned and embarassed gaze admidst applause from traffic offenders, juvenile deliquents and drug dealers.

Fantastic.

It's only ironic if you consider her normal employment by the church to be "community service".
Maybe a couple of years in the slammer for contempt of court, will change he attitude. ;)

Sounds good to me. Let's shell out lots of tax payer dollars to keep these would-be terrorists behind bars. First a prayer for world peace, then a cross, next thing you know, nuns will be flying planes into tall apartment complexes. Gotta crush these things in the bud!

They've been insisting that they get called by their real names lately, instead of aliases. They're all still Brides of this Christ guy, as far as I know. I thought that polygamy was illegal in the US since the gov't tried to bust the Mormons back in the 19th Century. I saw a thing on History Channel about that ...

I did too, cept the one I saw was on Fox during sweeps week.

WOW! The Catholic/Mormon Conspiracy! What if Jesus found out those nuns were cheating on him with Joseph Smith? What if the Rapture came down and inadvertantly picked up a bunch of Muslims who had just given their lives in the latest Jihad? Think of those good Southern Baptists being forced to spend eternity being fed grapes by virgins as a result of the ensuing cosmic mix-up! Think of all those followers of the Koran attempting to play on their harps in tune with lousey Christian muscians! To hell with heaven! I want eternal re-incarnations here on earth! I think someone should alert Homeland Security Forces about this at once! :eek2:

Groups rabidly complaining about each other while trying to make a spectacle of solidarity with each other.

(keeping a lid on the real story) I've seen a lot of this lately and never cease to become confused. :eyebrow:

In Luxembourg a few weeks ago, an elder lady fell down some steps and broke a leg. The ambulance, driving her to hospital, has an accident. And the lady dies...

That happens unfortunately often in the US. I have a friend who was in the rear of an ambulance with a patient when someone failed to pull over when they saw the flashing lights and heard the siren that t-boned her rig. They had to cut the driver out of the ambulance, and my friend's leg and knee were shattered. She spent more than a year rehabbing after that accident. Could have been worse, as since the EMT tending the patient in the back of a rig isn't belted in, she essentially became a projectile, and somehow managed to avoid serious head trauma.

IIRC, their patient survived.

Here in Austin, there used to be a huge "memorial" spraypainted on the street in an old residential area close to downtown. It was a crude picture of a cat, as wide as the street, and underneath it it said, "You killed my cat and didn't even stop. Thanks, asshole." It was there for over a decade, occasionally getting a new coat of white spraypaint to keep it from fading.

So anyway, about 5 or 6 years ago, the guy who created it died. He was hit by a car. :lol:

You missed the point,...again. :p I don't care if you're a certified saint, you don't get smart with the judge because they'll use their power to crush you like a grape. A billion bucks and OJ's dream team won't save your ass if the judge is pissed. Contempt of court is quite common but expressing it is not because the judges guard the decorum of their courts, with vigor. Jailed for contempt is unlike any other legal process in that it's permanent until the judge is satisfied. You can't circumvent his/her wrath.

Oh hell, Bruce, I miss so many points I might as well be wearing armor! :D I think I know what you mean about the whole contempt of court thing, but in this particular case the judge must have been scared of bad press or something. He put off sentencing the nun for 6 weeks during which time he asked her to reconsider her stance, telling her that she really would not like conditions at the local county jail. I don't know what happened when she re-appeared before him. I meant to follow the case, but forgot.

My mom calling my little brother a son-of-a-bitch. :D
