My projection for Super Bowl XXXIX
Patriots 41,Eagles 7.
Anybody care to comment? |
Steelers 31, Seahawks 21
Law is out, as if that matters. :flamer: |
Griff, put that damned bottle down. You know damned good and well that Seattle is going to get beat tomorrow, so let's cut the crap here. :)
|
Oh...a prediction for SB39: Eagles by less than a touchdown over Pittsburgh.

do the eagles stand a chance in the big game IF they finally make it?
|

McNabb over Vick? Yikes. That must be some good skunkweed. :3eye: |
He's a Cowboys fan...need I say more?

Dear God. I had no idea. |

I think we need an intervention with LJ. We can invite Marichiko and Atropos and you (Syc) and Wolf (she needs to bring the hypo if things get outta hand), UT, Griff and fileNotFound for some extra muscle if he tries to get up off the couch before we're good 'n through with his sorry Dallas-lovin' ass. :) |
It's funny...there are actually quite a few Dallas fans here, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of animosity towards them. Of course, I've never been to the Vet or the Linc to see things up close and personal...

There is a special peace one gets knowing that you can sit out the playoffs and not really be invested in it.
I suppose, however, that I will end up going along with the fellows at work and cheering the Iggles to some degree. I believe that I have my Eagles car window flag from last year still in the trunk, and may attach it to my vehicle so as to blend in these next few weeks. Love, 'Wolf (Bears Fan, resigned to no post season for quite a few year. Why oh why do the Bears have "demolishing" years, rather than "rebuilding?) P.S. Bruce sent me this. It's appropriate here. |

Giants are treated badly as well, but wasn't it Dallas that caused the change to the snow clearance rules in the Vet? |

I'm also 0 for 2;I picked Seahawks over Rams and Chargers over Jets.
|
Turns out the Seahawks were kinda sucky. The NFC bubble teams are weak.
Question: Is Manning gonna show something this weekend? |
Brien's 47-yarder with 1:58 remaining hit the goal post, but Roethlisberger gave the Jets the ball right back when his off-line throw was intercepted by David Barrett -- just the kind of mistake rookie quarterbacks are supposed to make in the playoffs, but Big Ben had rarely made during his 13-0 rookie season. The Jets then drove cautiously from the Steelers 37 to the 25, giving Brien a 43-yarder to win it on the final play of regulation.
But the kick sailed far to the left, not even close, and the given-a-reprieve Steelers danced joyously on their sidelines -- Roethlisberger right in the middle. That was unusual. |
You can say that again.
|
Damned Rams...I'm not really surprised that they lost, just surprised at how badly their asses were whupped.
The Eagles were solid--rust was not an issue. The Colts/Pats game should be interesting...I'll go with Indy by less than a touchdown. |
Even good teams need luck. Pittsburgh proved that yesterday. I think they're the team to beat this year.
|
I hope you're right. They really need to be sharp against the Pats.

In a restaurant without televisions or radios, the patron with the internet capable cellphone is queen ...
Had lots of visits from the wait staff ... "Would you care for some more complimentary pickles, or perhaps some coffee and desert? And while I'm here, do you happen to have the latest score?" |
jinx and I went out to a fancy restaurant with some friends saturday night, went back to their place and got good and drunk. we slept till 10:30, had coffee, putzed around, and then went out to breakfast at crackerbarrell around 12:30. My friend Matt had Tivo'd the game, and we were planning on going back to his house after eating and watch the game sans commercials. doesn't the waitress seat us next to a party of 20? and in that party of 20 there is, naturally, Captain Loudtalkerman who brought his 6" tv in to the restaurant and kept announcing the score. cock!
|
Neat story in the Times explaining how the Steelers came together as a team this year. There are lots of things that could have blown them up QB issues RB issues etc... but they're still grinding away. I think Maddox should get a lot of credit. When he was a young'un Elway did everything he could to sink him, Tommy is a better man than that.

I don't know if you guys have looked outside your windows lately, but given current weather conditions, it looks like the participants in today's Conference Championship games may have to take the field in snowshoes. Right about now, the street outside my home disturbingly resembles an outtake from "The Day After Tomorrow" and polar bear and penguin sightings have increased geometrically in the last twelve hours.
|
Because of the habit of Eagles fans to pelt their opposition with snowballs ... there won't be a single speck of cold white stuff in the Linc.
|
Here's an interesting question. Since Gov. Rendell is an unabashed Eagles fan, if the Steelers win the Superbowl over the Eagles, will he go to the parade?
|
I thought that in a soundbite I heard last week he was showing clear favoritism for the Steelers ... I was quite confused.
|
t-20 mins to kick off.
although i'm a staunch cowboys fan, and eagles hater, I have to admit that I'm rooting for them. since tha colts were dusted by the pats, I'd like to see them finally get there and win it. my prediction for today: 27-13 Iggles. |

How about them Iggles? Nicely done.
Good luck to the Birds in the Bowl ... the economy could use the boost. |

Gigantic suppurating pustule, or perhaps impacted anal wart would be my term for Rush. Gag. Puke. |
So, I just had to come back and ask the question:
Do you really think you have a prayer? <img src='http://espn-att.starwave.com/media/nfl/2005/0123/photo/a_branch_frt.jpg'> |
Yep. The Pats didn't win the game, the Steelers lost it. It was classic Belichik though. Cower got out-coached.
Now, I have to root for the Eagles, but lets face it the NFC teams just are not that competitive. A non-rookie qb would have done much better against last nights scheme but who knows what they're gonna throw at Philly? New England's pass defense is still very beatable... |
Eagles, 31 -28 in OT.
|
I haven't followed the NFL this year as closely as I ususally do, but I gotta go with the Patriots 35-17. Although it would be nice to see the Eagles get a win. Too bad there isn't some kind of "cyber wager" we can put on this....hmmmm.

Apropos of wagers, are the mayors of Boston and Philadelphia wagering anything?

My Prediction? The Field Will Look GREAT!
Nice article about local legend George Toma, who is the only guy to have ever been in charge of the turf for Super Bowls.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slu...v=ap&type=lgns Toma pretty much invented the modern science of groundskeeping, and has been in charge of Kansas City's professional athletic fields since I was a wee lad. One of his early hallmarks was making his groundskeepers actually *train* for the between-inning spruceups of the infield. His kids sprinted out onto the field, changed the bases out for clean ones, did a quick dirt dragging, and sprinted off again, all in about 30 seconds. When the rain began to fall, his guys got the tarps out under the judgement of a stopwatch, and their new records were announced over the PA. George Toma is *the* man in groundskeeping, and we've been fortunate to have him as our local guy for as long as I can remember. |

Show of hands:who here has been keeping track of the controversy stemming from Freddie Mitchell's comments about the Patriots' defense last week on ESPN?
|
A bit, because it was on the news here in Philadelphia last week...it seemed like Mitchell was joking (I didn't actually hear the comments), though he is a turd.

I'm a little concerned that the Pats are going to into the game with something to prove and blow it. They're getting more pissed of as the days go by. This kind of stuff isn't healthy and can be a huge distraction.

I'm sure this has gone around, but if it hasn't ...
http://www.nbc10.com/eaglesparody/4152450/detail.html GO EAGLES. |
that was queer
|
I have this fear that if the Iggles to manage to lead at any point in the game, that's the cue for the Black Sunday or Sum of All Fears terrorist attack to ensue. Either then or when John Stamos' older brother Richard Stamos sings the high note in "Loving You."
|
Two teams I don't care about. Sooo... time for Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl. This kicks ass. I mean, come on -- its a room that looks like a football stadium, is full of puppies and toys, and all they do is switch cameras.
...and if you were too busy watching the game, you can always pick up the DVD. |
sorry guys, better luck next year.

My condolences to you Philly area Cellarites. I think the Eagles gave the Pats a hell of a game. Best Stupendous Bowl in years.
