favorite TV shows this season
Hey,
Found my way to this forum... been lookin around on the web for cool communities to discuss all sorts of things. Never quite knew it all existed until recently. Anyways, wondering what kind of tv shows people watch here religiously - as in can't miss an episode. I like just about everything having to do with crime - cops, CSI, forensic files, I detective, 24!!!. Cable networks have been upping the ante as well, don't leave them out of the mix. What are your favorites this season? |
HBO Sunday night drama
Arrested Development Simpsons 24 Scrubs Daily Show Alias The season is now over, but these were good: Stargate Battlestar Galactica MI-5 Monk |
The "season" is pretty much over for me. I don't watch much normal TV or series, but here's the current faves at the Elspode ranch:
Dead Like Me (Showtime) Carnivale (HBO) American Idol (yes, I know, and I'm sorry) And that would be about all that we watch with any regularity. We watch *lots* of movies, though. |
Deadwood
Carnivale The O.C. |
Has anyone picked up another season of Dead Like Me? I think Showtime has dropped it. http://www.cellar.org/images/smilies/pissed.gif
|
Dead wood ROCKS , Mrs. Zippyt don't care for it . To gritty i guess .
Carnival is just TOO damn weird !! Iron Chef America has gotten pretty good . not a series but TIVO grabes them all . West Wing is getting interesting as well . Star Wars on cartoon net work has expanded from 5 minets to 15 minets , i have ALL of them stored on the TIVO as well . One to look for just for weirdness sake is The Venture Brothers , a weird sort of spin on Johnny Quest , again on cartoon network . |
The ones I have on DVR are:
Enterprise (the final season 4 episodes start mid April and I swear T'Pol better end up married to Trip or I'ma be PISSED...and Cap'n better not end up with that stuck up little bitch Captain of the Columbia...) Quantum Leap (still my all time favorite show in the whole world) Whose Line is it Anyway Family Guy Daily Show I've watched Venture Brothers, and it's funny the first couple times you see it, then it starts to lose it's charm. Although I get spiff from HBO and Showtime, I don't watch their original series since Sex and the City went off. Shows I *used* to watch religiously (while they were on, before syndication): Red Dwarf (which I now have every episode of, including the American Pilot which is teh suck, and smeg-ups hosted by Patrick Stewart) Greatest American Hero Chicago Hope (until Mandy Patinkin left) Space: Above and Beyond (DAMN that was a good show!!) Star Trek: The Next Generation (except season Two when the bitch of a doctor Polaski was on...I hated her. No one was more happy than me to see Beverly come back from pregnancy leave.) ....Not that I'm in to Sci-Fi or anything... |
Law and Order: SVU
Law and Order Law and Order Trial By Jury CSI CSI: Miami Sensing a pattern here? |
LOST on ABC
Just one - Lost on ABC Wednesday nights. It's the first show in years that I've become addicted to. And it's the only show that, for me, is as good as reading a book.
|
The West Wing has just gone into syndication on Bravo. I get 2-3 episodes a day that way, plus Marathon Mondays which are something like 6 or 7 in a row.
It's a beautiful thing. |
NIP TUCK
|
Along with movies, I watch a lot (too much) tv. And the invention of the DVR is only feeding my habit.
Monday: Fear Factor ( But I still like it) The Ultimate Fighter ( :boxers: Mr. chainsaw's favorite) Tuesday: The Amazing Race! ( Probably my favoritest show right now, it's super fun) The Office ( Funny, even though it's a knock off) Wednesday: Lost ( So weird/different I can't stop watching) Gilmore Girls ( :grinnylov Cute, clever and girly) America's Next Top Model ( :lame: But addicting) Thursday: Survivor (again :lame: But entertaining, sort of) The Apprentice ( :yelgreedy Gotta love the Donald) Sunday: The Contender ( :boxers: C'mon, it's Sly & Sugar Ray) All of that with a lot of the Food Network and a bit of the Animal Planet mixed in. Geez, I watch too much "reality" tv. Oh well, it's better than watching the same damn actors over and over... I guess. |
I hate to admit this, but that reality show about the funeral home has got me hooked. Family Plots, I think it's called.
Jeff Corwin's show is neat too. Better than Croc Hunter by a mile, just because Corwin knows he's a dork. I'm an Everwood fag. Shut up. The Entertainer, which wrapped up the other day, is another American Idol wannabe, but Wayne Newton is the host, and there is no one who kicks more ass than Wayne Newton. I like the Office as well, but only watch it sporadically. I also watch Bargain Hunt, because that guy kicks almost as much ass as Wayne Newton |

Seattle Mariners schedule
CNN, FoxNews, MSNBC, C-SPAN in small doses Discovery Channel (who really cares what the program is...I like most of it) That should about fill my 5 hour/week quota. |

BBC America. I've seen portions of several shows, but never have been able to catch the whole thing. The other night they had a marathon or something, and I got to watch most of one. It was funny as hell, and I can't wait to watch it again. The main guy (dunno his name) has killer killer timing and priceless facial expressions.
I refuse to watch the American version, just because remakes always suck, American or not. |
I went this route...

You should all be reading books.
That said: Scrubs, Daily Show, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama...oh, hell...pretty much everything on Adult Swim. Too many cartoons for a grown woman? ;) |
Oh my. How could I forget Adult Swim? Sealab 2021 is the funniest cartoon ever made. The first episode I saw was the one where Stormy and Quinn kept getting blown back in time by an explosion and their copies play dodgeball in the brig. I was loaded at the time, and thought I was watching an actual 70s cartoon. The surreality of this experience cannot be overstated. And the episode where Capt. Murphy is trapped under the soda machine? I can't remember ever laughing so hard in my life. Harry Goz did Murphy's voice, and he died in 2003. RIP.
Damn. now I'm all sad. gotta put a murphy quote in my sig file. edit: just found out through google that harry goz was best known as the apple on the old fruit of the loom commercials. hm. |

If Showtime has a good show, you can be assured they'll cancel it.

I work nights, so I don't see as much television as I once did ...
But I love Law & Order Law & Order: SVU Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Haven't really seen Trial by Jury, but the two episodes I've seen weren't that outstanding.) CSI (can't stand Miami, and NY was on opposity L&O, so I had to choose) ER (I've watched it from the beginning. Still like it, but not as much since Dr. Green died.) MI-5 Rescue Me (best firefighter TV show ever, yes, even better than Emergency! which is also an old favorite). I've gotten hooked into buying some TV series on DVD, to relive the experience ... Star Trek (whole deal, all 3 seasons) Twin Peaks Season 1 Oz Seasons 1 - 4 Wiseguy (I have Steelgrave, Proffit, and the Rag Trade. The DC set is around here somewhere ... looking forward to the "Mr Sardonicus" batch) Kung Fu The Prisoner (really does need to be watched contiguously, in as few sittings as possible) UFO Space: 1999 (I have this on VHS, not DVD) Beauty and The Beast (not disney ... you know, "Vincent, I love you even though you are not of my species. Read me some poetry again while we don't touch, okay?") My only other regular TV viewing is a little unusual. He amuses me. Damn. I spend a lot more time watching TV than I thought. |

I liked Fast Eddie before they yanked it. |
I wish I had BBC America - I love Bargain Hunt!
To me, L&O Trial by Jury is good because it is very lawyerly... Since I don't know my rules of evidence, I find it very helpful. I also totally dig SeaLab 2021 - hilarious - and Mission Hill. |
The Kumars at No. 42 has a lot of potential ... but since I don't get BBCAmerica on the upstairs TV (basic, not digital cable), I probably won't really get the chance unless I happen to catch it on the downstairs ...

I'm so behind on watching TV. I'm lucky I get to watch anything between my kids watching episodes of Sponge Bob (which I secretly like, btw).
But, I used to watch Ali G a lot - that guy cracks me up - especially the interview segments. The Christmas episode had me in tears I was laughing so hard. And I enjoyed HBO's recent documentary on the Rise and Fall of Air America. |
wolf -- your link was broke. but it looks like tv preaching. which i also like, if it has the ppl in wheelchairs at the end. Benny Hinn is mesmerizing. I think it's the middle Eastern accent and the all white suit.
My weird show is The Big Joe Polka Show, on RFD-TV. You gotta love satellite. If you turn Big Joe on and listen to 2 songs with the smattering of old people dancing, you'll be hooked. |
Just try the link again. Persistence pays off. I think they have a majorly cutrate web service.
You need to watch the one with the virgin mary ... instructions to find it are here: Pastor and General Overseer Rev. Geno Jennings goes the extra mile to prove his point |
OnyxCougar, you gotta watch "The 4400". USA Network has finally started filming the second season and it should be on again in a month.
|
I saw the previews for that but never tuned in. What's the premise of the show?
|
It is so far-out cool, I bet you'll be hooked too. What if all the people who had been "abducted by aliens" since the atomic age began were suddenly returned to us, all at once and with no explanation? Where have they been, why were THEY taken and not somebody else? And strangest of all, who did it and why do they look like they never aged a minute since they disappeared, whether it was 60 years ago or last week? Here is the link to their website: http://www.usanetwork.com/series/the4400/flash.htm. Rumor is they are putting the first season (5 stories) on DVD now.
|
CSI (or CSI Miami but NOT New York)
Sex & The City (I have no good excuse for liking that...) Sealab 2021 (The Bizzarro episode- hilarious!!!) Family Guy Aqua Teen Home Movies (and Dr. Katz, of which I own EVERY SINGLE EPISODE EVER MADE) Twin Peaks (once upon a time, but I will NEVER forget who killed Laura Palmer...) Scrubs The Office |
Oh, and this show I haven't seen in a long time but used to be on BBC-
The Young Ones |

I also have one that has a copy of the wanted poster "Have You Seen This Man" with the drawing of Bob. |

Yeah I'm really not happy about that... If you haven't already, try reading 'The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer.' Author is Jennifer Lynch (daughter of David Lynch). A good read. |
Just saw a few old and new friends from the BBC.
The Thin Blue Line - Police comedy with Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean, Black Adder) My Hero - Sitcom with woman married to superhero The original "Coupling" - Unlike "All in the Family", the U.S. really botched the job when stealing this show and "Absolutely Fabulous". Coupling is an ensemble cast with no real star - like "Friends". Rowan Atkinson pretty much steals the show in "The Thin Blue Line". The closest US equivalent is "Reno 911". |

In hard back. I also have the "Access Guide to Twin Peaks." I believe it is still rumbling around in the trunk of my car along with my other important travel maps. |

I seem to be complaining about incomplete series a lot... |
wow, i have a lot of new shows to add to my TIVO schedule, lol.
Is anyone excited about revelations tonight?! Its gonna make me :worried: :mg: Well, so does courtTV - I guess I am becoming a paranoid crime-addict. I just recently purchased a new alarm system for the house, lol! |
Funny, when I get feeling that way I just buy a new pistol. Or a shotgun.
Darnit, I missed Revelations. Was it any good? |
What is Revelations about? It looks interesting.
|
If you like Deadwood on HBO, here is where you can find out which characters were real people and how true the story is.

All I can say is that it is probably a good thing that it is only intended for six episodes. Lame. So lame that if Christ came back to Earth today, even He couldn't make it walk. |
 wolf.
Two big clues -- it was on SciFi, the channel that will be bringing us "Man-Thing" and is already responsible for a couple giant snake shows. Secondly....well, it just looked dumb. For good end-of-times scares, there's an old movie about Christians being herded up and guillotined when they won't get the mark of the beast. Can't remember the name, but it's from about 1980 or so, so it has that grainy, spooky 70s look. |

I've got a theory about "24". Since Jack never eats or excretes, I suspect he actually consumes torture to survive. I was a bit worried he wouldn't get to torture anyone last night, but luckily he got rid of that pesky "Amnesty Global" lawyer just in time to break a few fingers before the end of the hour.
|
I forgot to add....
The OC (fox) The Simpsons (fox) Family guy (finally coming back, yes!) (fox) Psychic detectives (courttv) --- yeah, i know, but I enjoy seeing shows that solve mysteries, and this one is just crazy. |
Lets see mine are? WTF am I doing paying 42 bucks for directv when I could get same shit on cable for 30? Wake up bb
|
Well BigBrother has started again, currently just over 2 weeks into the house. The people arent so attractive to watch this year - and we have had one guy calles "logan" but he is actually an idenitical twin and throughout the show they had been switching the two "logans" every day or so.. it was quite funny to watch until one other housemate came up with the twin theory and busted them. so now thye are both in the house.
i dont usually like it but my partner insists that we watch it for "social" reasons.. pfft.. |
wasn't that last year? or was last year, twin girls?
