My Manifesto

If anyone is looking for some context for my worldview, you might find this link interesting. Here, offered in very human and simple form, is my raving maniacal manifesto.

Addison Road: Why I Believe What I Believe

I may get around later to the project of laying out the philosophical rational groundwork for these things, but the truth is that those came later ... it was the human story that first made sense.

What was your motivation to write this?

And who votes we have the word "manifesto" stricken from modern vocabulary?

Catwoman 04-27-2005 09:33 AM

I do. What is this? Are you Michael? I don't understand these types of self-indulgent self-claimed 'philosophical' blogs, load of trite. For real insight try this or this

mrnoodle 04-27-2005 10:26 AM

sm, you mentioned God. That makes your blog "self-indulgent," as opposed to all the posts in the philosophy thread, which is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Carbonated Brains and Catwoman will let you know when it's appropriate to share your worldview.

Catwoman 04-27-2005 11:25 AM

mr noodle that's not fair. I didn't read anything about god, all I read was the jumble of words under his pic, and that was enough. I might disagree with religion, but I don't bring it into every bloody point I make. Tsk.

oh and my self-indulgent posts here are clearly marked as such, and not set up as an authoritative stance on anything whatsoever.

mrnoodle 04-27-2005 04:59 PM

k. sorry. my religious defense system is on "obliterate" lately.

Griff 04-27-2005 09:48 PM

I'm with you on the Jesus rant but I get a sharp pain behind the eyes if I read philosophical parsing. Can I just trust you on that bit?

Lunaephiliac 05-01-2005 07:45 PM

okay, maybe I got the wrong impression here, but since when does a philosophy thread have nothing to do with god?

wolf 05-01-2005 10:09 PM

Welcome to the monk ... cellar.

Isn't God and his/her existance the basis of all philosophy?
If JC comes back to take over wouldn't philosophy be moot? :)

Troubleshooter 05-08-2005 12:59 PM

Nope

xoxoxoBruce 05-08-2005 09:57 PM

Then I'll let you explain to him why you're not following instructions......just before he runs you through with his light saber. :ipray:

I didn't see it as self-indulgent, or even really much about "god". It mentioned a creator, but who knows if that is really what sm equates to god. I don't agree with the opinions in this piece, but I like how it was written. SM, good work. I don't agree and am not a Christian, but it looks to me more like an antecdotal essay, rather than a manifesto. Perhaps not calling it a manifesto might give it more open acceptance.

I guess I hadn't really read all the other stuff on that site. Anyway, yeah, maybe it was about god and such, but I am trying very hard not to let that influence my opinion about the writing. Writing looks good. Philosophy = not my style.

YES!!! :rar:

It seems like every friggin' blog on this internet now is called a Manifesto. Whenever the word "manifesto" is used it is my cue to IGNORE whatever it is referring to.

wolf 05-17-2005 11:20 PM

You mean "Except for the Sycamore Manifestos, particularly the Special Guest Manifesto Series which showcases awesomely skilled commentators."

If whalepenis.org e-mail forwarders didn't cement my status as a nutjob genius, guest commentators at The Bosque had to.

Incidentally, Troubleshooter is the guest commentator this coming Monday. Now THAT should be interesting.

Wow..."Manifesto" is that overused, eh? I had no idea. I started calling my forum/blog "The Sycamore Manifestos" around this time 3 years ago, when it was hosted here at Cellar.

Troubleshooter 05-19-2005 08:57 AM

I'm still pondering which of several directions to go with it by the way. Or maybe I'll throw them all out there.

wolf 05-19-2005 09:47 AM

I found that whatever you plan falls by the wayside when you actually sit down to write.

Troubleshooter 05-19-2005 10:00 AM

Sometimes, but I've found that I write best immediately before due time after it has had time stew for a while. I like to pull ideas out and juggle them a few minutes and then stick them back on the back burner to simmer a while. Repeat that a few times and when writing time comes the ideas seem to flow out pretty smoothly.
