These people are really starting to scare me

Has anyone peeked in on the This is not Porn crowd lately? it is pretty spooky, and it bothers me that i still don't get it. I'm concerned that they are talking in code about an alien invasion that is set to happen or something...

Griff 04-27-2005 08:38 PM

You can get the answer by listening to Children of the Sun backwards... I've got a used turntable for sale.

lookout123 04-27-2005 08:40 PM

well, i'd buy it but i read in that thread that anyone owning a turntable is targeted for immediate "re-education". i don't think i want to do that.

Troubleshooter 04-27-2005 08:48 PM

I have the CD. Maybe I could encode it and use Soundforge or something to reverse it.

wolf 04-28-2005 01:16 AM

I find their singleminded dedication to the puzzle intriguing. Crazy, and I mean that from a professional standpoint, but intriguing.

Given the amount of trouble that everyone in the known universe is having with the step they are stuck on, the fact that it continues to hold their interest is pretty amazing.

You can't derail their conversation, and they for some reason hold The Cellar TINP thread in much higher regard even than the "secret forum" on some official forum site for the game.

I have to assume that there is some kind of subsonic signal transmitted directly into your brain when you play that is what makes the game more addicting than heroin.

They don't even know what the goal is, and they just keep on playing.

Charlie better fucking win the chocolate factory or something.

If the whole thing ends with a splash screen that says "congrats. you're finished" there are going to be a lot of 14 year olds killing themselves in the messy ways that are described in Dance, Dance, Dance.

Catwoman 04-28-2005 03:10 AM

It's quite fascinating. I have no idea what they're talking about. How does the puzzle work - just links to different web pages? I bet they screw themselves looking for the answer and find it was at the beginning all along.

Clodfobble 04-28-2005 08:40 AM

Yeah, each page has some hidden or sometimes not-so-hidden spot you click on to get to the next page, and most of the pages are password protected. The usernames and passwords are based on clues on the page.

Except one of the things is that the puzzle keeps changing, usually when people have been stuck for awhile. The guy who maintains it is reading the forums about it, no doubt.

OnyxCougar 04-28-2005 10:08 AM

I haven't checked lately. I got to like, page 2. That was it. You have to read some books to get the hints and do web searches to find one really obscure webpage with one phrase that will unlock the whole thing, then you have the user name, and do it again for the password...then on to the next page.

It's ghay.

Catwoman 04-28-2005 10:11 AM

Page 2? That's impressive. I didn't understand page 1. I don't think it's homosexual though.

OnyxCougar 04-28-2005 10:23 AM

That's why I didn't say gay. I say ghay. That's slang for dumb or stupid. Throwback slang from the 80's.

wolf 04-28-2005 11:16 AM

I'm pretty sure gay was stupid when I was in late elementary school ...

mrnoodle 04-28-2005 11:57 AM

i thought it was "ghey". Anyway, now that you've uttered the words "T*I*N*P", you've marked this thread for about a zillion hits from people looking for clues and answers. They're like the Borg.

OnyxCougar 04-28-2005 11:58 AM

eh. alternate spelling. *shrug*

mrnoodle 04-28-2005 01:35 PM

I'd be really impressed if they made one of the answers "whale penis"

if i put that in my signature line, and it appeared in nearly 3000 posts, would that then drive these people crazy?

cowhead 04-28-2005 02:59 PM

yeah, I don't get it.. or well I actually have other things to do.. like go to work? then again maybe I just am not smart enough...hmm.. didn't I just post on the ignorant thread? well! that being the case, there are some things I'd rather not understand... and that's one of them.

BigV 04-28-2005 05:27 PM

"I am Spartacus." "I am Spartacus." "I am Spartacus." "I am Spartacus."

Griff 04-29-2005 06:39 PM

Cellar is now #1 for all things not pornographic.

Elspode 04-29-2005 08:42 PM

Has anyone ever come for TINP and stayed for the yummy goodness of The Cellar itself?

Think of the peer adulation if you were the one that made the (or even a) big breakthrough.

jaguar 04-30-2005 07:05 AM

winning on google too. 2nd site is linking to us too. kind of a hollow victory however.

SILVERWOLFNC 04-30-2005 05:06 PM

What gets me about the whole deal is more people are trying to figure it out than those that actually go looking for Porn. I admit I tried and then said this is stupid and sophmoric. If they really wanted to entice people why don't they put the title as "This is Porn" then more people would actually think porn is at the end of the puzzle and try to solve it... I bet they are afraid some smart porn addict will find out their secret that there is no bloody end to the puzzel and it keeps making you go in circles like the red button link I got sent the other day.

xoxoxoBruce 04-30-2005 09:18 PM

They seem to be enticing all the people they want. I doubt if it has anything to do with porn. It's only a puzzle, a game that a lot of people find a challenge. It doesn't interest me but neither does Dungeons & Dragons and look how many are into that. I don't agree but I understand. :)

Beestie 04-30-2005 10:27 PM

TINP is a good brain stretcher. Yoga for the brain. At the age that most of the participants, I think its a great exercise for developing lateral thinking prowess.

That they totally ignored the bait I threw in there was impressive. Sort of like watching ants work - total focus. I wish I could do that.

Which sci-fi universe was that? I'm getting this little tickle in my brain but I'm not retreiving it.
