Plastic Forks 2005

Alright, bastards...as has been mentioned a few times in other threads, Plastic Forks is coming up soon.

What it is: A celebration of the summer solstice. A day for eating, drinking and general merriment.

Where it is: Chadds Ford, PA (SW suburbs of Philadelphia).

Who will be there: A lot of unique people, including quite a few Cellar Dwellars and Bosquers. Wolf will certainly be there. So will I, in what will be one of my final Philadelphia appearances...you may never see me again, so why the hell wouldn't you want to come?

When it is: Saturday June 25 at 3pm until the last person leaves Sunday afternoon.

What to bring: Food, beer, liquor, a drum and/or cream cheese.

How to get there/questions: PM or ask Wolf.

richlevy 05-15-2005 02:03 PM

Sycamore, where is it you are moving to? I know there was mention of jobs lost and gained, but I don't remember you saying you were moving out of the area?

I could post a film strip of last years Plastic Forks. Given how some of it is PG-13 (Parental Guidance:"Mommy, why are those two girls kissing?"), and I don't have anyones permission, I think I'll abstain. I do have the photos available to anyone who knows the exact URL.

This will be my third year at Plastic Forks. It's a lot of fun and good food. Some silliness, but the promised rampant nudity and outrageous behavior never materialized. OK, some outrageous behavior materialized, but nothing that would offend Blue-staters and Libertarians.

Must...try...harder.

Back to St. Louis.

wolf 05-15-2005 03:38 PM

The nakidity is somewhat dependent upon the afterdark warmth ... it's been a mite chilly these past few years. I think we did use the kiddie pool to keep the beers at drinkable temperature year before last ...

elSicomoro 05-15-2005 03:41 PM

I don't recall any kind of pool in the past 2 years.

richlevy 05-15-2005 05:50 PM

The year before last was chilly. I thought last year's weather was perfect.

elSicomoro 05-15-2005 06:05 PM

Last year was great...the year before, it was chilly and it tried to rain.

xoxoxoBruce 05-15-2005 10:45 PM

Well the year before was the day after a record rain that was over the road by my house and the Brandywine was halfway over Rte 1 so I think we really lucked out.

Or it was witchcraft. :worried:

elSicomoro 05-16-2005 03:21 AM

That was probably Wolf and her friends playing with their black magic...I told them to lay off it a week before Forks last year.

busterb 05-16-2005 09:11 AM

I would like to make the Forks and meet some of the fellow dwellars. But in my so called delicate situation, I guess not. It's a long way from home to fall off wagon & get fall down stupid drunk. Around 1k miles. Maybe next time, my higher power willing ;) Ya'll have a great time & let's see the photos.

Trilby 05-16-2005 09:14 AM

Yeah, me, too, busterb. Meeting new people is a stress situation for me and I'm sure I'd make a complete ass of myself if I went to PF--even though I'd love to go! Sounds like so much fun...*sigh*...whaddya gonna do?

OnyxCougar 05-16-2005 09:41 AM

That's the weekend right before I'm moving, so I'm not going to be able to come....AGAIN, dammit. *sigh* I think I'll go cry in a corner....

Ditto, besides, my only interesting one was of a young lady easting a sausage, and I don't need that kind of trouble.

elSicomoro 05-16-2005 10:59 AM

I remember that one well...

I believe wolf has the pic of the woman drinking a beer from between her boobs 2 years ago.

wolf 05-16-2005 02:08 PM

Yes, I do have that photograph.

The Approach
The Drink
The Solo

There typically is weather-witching involved with respect to forks. Bob and I have very different opinions on that.

One year I drove down to forks in a major rainstorm, that STOPPED at the Chester County Line. Not petered out, slowed down, or switched to a drizzle. Ended. Done. Like I had driven through a curtain. Sky was blue, birds were chirping. No rain or sign of rain.

Just a note to all ... for reasons not disclosed, forks will be launching from the top of the house this year (go to the screen porch on the upper level), so we need to find a new space for the bonfire.

mrnoodle 05-16-2005 03:16 PM

Buying an airline ticket to Philly and missing work is a stress situation for me, sadly. I'd like to put a face to all the names on here. When I get financially solvent, if ever, I wanna come out and observe the pagan in its natural habitat.

I want to do the Euro version in A'dam too. Next year. Or maybe the one after that.

lookout123 05-16-2005 03:17 PM

my wife would be less than excited if i said i was flying to philly to sit in a field, pound on drums, and hope to see naked people. i however think it would rock.

wolf 05-16-2005 03:37 PM

You can bring the wife.

People have.

People who I think may still be married ...

lookout123 05-16-2005 03:41 PM

these days her idea of roughing it, even for the day, is a holiday inn. if she sees a mosquito, we are outta there.

in reality, we've got so many trips planned this year that even if i could talk her into it, we wouldn't be able to schedule away from our businesses. someday though. my son is going to be 4 soon. i want to wait until he is a little bit older and then drag the family out east for the obligatory tour of the battlefields, cracked bell, hive of villainy - i mean cradle of democracy, seat of government tour.

if not '06 then definitely '07.

If you think it would help, you could tell her you're flying to Leavenworth County Kansas to sit in a field, pound drums, drink mead, and hope to see naked people.

Just wanted you to have options, man.

lookout123 05-16-2005 04:06 PM

thanks els. that will make it a lot easier. my wife's response would still be -skip the field. go to a strip club. drink beer. pound on a table, pretend they are drums. come home.

richlevy 06-10-2005 09:36 PM

Soooooo.

Who's going this year?

elSicomoro 06-10-2005 09:41 PM

I'll be there.

SteveDallas 06-10-2005 10:08 PM

I should be unless something drastic comes up.

wolf 06-11-2005 01:28 AM

Me too! Me too!!

PM or email me if directions are needed or if you have questions about attending!

BrianR 06-11-2005 08:41 AM

Count me in. The plans are laid.

By mice or men? Are they the best laid or some off-the-shelf knockoff? :p

Dagney 06-11-2005 09:59 AM

I'm unfortunately not going to be able to attend...

Darnit.

richlevy 06-11-2005 10:09 AM

You know, I did dump most of the Plastic Forks 2004 photos (and two videos) onto a web page, which is not linked to my regular web page.

I could give everyone the URL so that you could see what last year's event was like.

Ethically speaking, I would need Wolf or Bob to approve it.

wolf 06-11-2005 10:14 AM

Approved.

We likes da pictures.

2003 are available at [url=http://scribe.fork.org[/url] The Official Scribe Home Page.

Yes, that's right. I still haven't gotten 2004 up and organized, although they are on Snapfish.

Please also visit the The Plastic Forks Homepage which will explain most of your questions, and cause you to have more, which can be answered in the forum!!

richlevy 06-11-2005 10:22 AM

OK, the URL is http://home.comcast.net/~richlevy/PFork04/ . The mixed case in the directory name is very important.

BTW, after 2004 I bought and rebuilt a hand drum and bought a spare for my friends. I've never been to drum circles but I did have a lot of fun at Forks. The bodhran I bought wasn't a hand drum although some people used it as one, and the rythms a bodhran and a hand drum produce are really different. I had to borrow someones drum to really play along and decided to fix up one for myself.

I thought about bringing a CD player, but the last two years at Plastic Forks have been a make-your-own-music event and that has made it stand out from all the other BBQ's and outdoor parties I've been to.

BTW, is it too sexist to mention the fun to be had banging a drum while barefoot women dance around a large bonfire? :male:

BTW the Official Scribe Homepage link was invalid this is the correct link.

wolf 06-11-2005 10:36 AM

You're welcome to bring the CD Player. We like tunes. And I think we get the screenporch this year, so it wouldn't get rained on.

Actually, I think it's only the last two or three years we haven't had a CD player.

You may have noticed ... having some technological innovation has not stopped us from improvising as necessary.

elSicomoro 06-11-2005 10:44 AM

Here are Bruce's pictures from last year: http://www.sycamoreland.com/bruceforks/index.html

Here are mine: http://www.sycamoreland.com/forks.html

Elspode 06-11-2005 12:21 PM

Well, I've just spent the last hour figuring out that my wild hair to fly out to PA, rent a car, and show up at Forks isn't going to work out. Damn and blast.

It isn't really the money as much as it is the constraints of time and travel. In order to get affordable flights, one must travel at absurd hours. This would leave me a lot of slack time with no way to be anywhere to kill it and still be able to do things like, well...sleep.

Perhaps I'll plan a year in advance and see if it works out better for 2006. What will the Forks date be in 2006?

elSicomoro 06-11-2005 12:27 PM

6/24/06, right Wolf?

wolf 06-11-2005 03:37 PM

Forks starts the Saturday closest to the Summer Solstice and the Full Moon. If this date is the Saturday Prior to Father's Day, Forks will be the week following.

Forks ends when we peel the last drunk off the lawn on Sunday.

elSicomoro 06-11-2005 03:59 PM

Okay...so figure it the fuck out then, pagan. :)

Hey, Els, we should do a road trip out there...or maybe we can have our own mini-forks. The Kansas version, you know....complete with 40s of Keystone. We could get Cowhead out here, maybe, too.

BrianR 06-11-2005 09:44 PM

if you fly out here, Els, you can crash with me and tag along. Thus saving the car rental.

Space I got.

kerosene 06-12-2005 11:53 AM

Arkansas?? Neato. count me in. Actually, Elspode, my boyfriends kids were got from Oklahoma... almost Texas. we stopped off in Wichita to visit his parents first.

Let me know if anyone wants to come out here. I know most folks wouldn't set foot in Western Kansas (which is usually a good thing) but we have something like 8 or 9 extra beds and 3 or 4 extra guest rooms, as well as 5 acres surrounded by farmland.

BigV 06-13-2005 11:17 AM

off topic--

I just now "got" plthijinx username... PiLoTHIJINX. I have always struggled with the "pronounciation". When I failed to imagine how it sounded in my mind, I even tried to say it. All I ever managed to do was spit all over the monitor. Like the sound you make when you're spitting out a mouthful of cobwebs.

I am so slow.

elSicomoro 06-13-2005 11:21 AM

That's okay...I never knew what it meant until you just wrote that.

lookout123 06-13-2005 11:42 AM

i had the same experience just a couple of days ago BigV.

you may now feel free to revive the "what's in a name" thread whereever it may be resting.

Clodfobble 06-13-2005 12:05 PM

Heh... I never got that either, BigV. I always assumed "plt" must be his initials.

glatt 06-13-2005 12:15 PM

I thought he was a huge fan of jinx, and was greeting her in each post with a polite "Hi."

 oh good lord! i didn't think it was that hard! lmao! yeah, pilot hi-jinx, but hey, it's better than hijack! i actually got the name, or thought of it years ago while watching air america. congrats! BigV! you get the grand prize! whatever that may turn out to be! :thumb:

anyway, the texas cellarites could get together and split a rental 4 ways! i can think of at least 3 including myself. (can't speak for their significant others, though....)

xoxoxoBruce 06-13-2005 08:41 PM

plthijinx.....I knew. :p

wolf 06-14-2005 12:08 AM

Seemed obvious to me. :shrugs:

elSicomoro 06-16-2005 06:57 PM

Just over a week to go...we ready, or what?

wolf 06-17-2005 01:03 AM

I am so motherfucking ready.

And if tonight hadn't sucked major donkey's balls, I would have had a tent. Hopefully the Ambulanceboi will remember to bring it in for me tomorrow.

Well, you could always walk into your local Republican politician's office and ask if you can have their 'big tent', since they obviously don't need it anymore.

Seriously, I wish I could help you, but I don't have a tent anymore. Good luck.

elSicomoro 06-17-2005 08:14 PM

I will not be staying overnight this year, but will probably stay until the wee hours.

BrianR 06-19-2005 10:19 PM

I will bring MY tent...plenty of room for another person.

You will need your own sleeping bag though.

I am currently in Baltimore and will stop by the class 6 store on my way home for the makings of Moose Milk. You will love this stuff.

Brian

richlevy 06-20-2005 10:19 PM

BTW, if anyone feels like going to the West Chester Soft Pretzel Factory and paying $20 for 100 pretzels, feel free.

wolf 06-21-2005 12:43 AM

The Boi came through. I have luxury accommodations in the trunk of my car.

In an emergency, I can move some stuff around and use the trunk of my car.
