Praise the person above you

An alternative to LJs original "insult the person above you".

I did not start this thread to get a free praise.

Because I'm taking this idea from LJ I will start by praising him. LJ is funny, smart, and gregarious in the best sense of that word.

OnyxCougar 05-16-2005 09:35 AM

Tony is (usually) one of the most level-headed and sensible people I've met here. Always donating time, energy and bandwidth, he goes above and beyond to make sure our addiction is met.

Truly awesome.

lookout123 05-16-2005 10:39 AM

OC is consistantly tenacious and wholeheartedly dedicated to what she believes.

Catwoman 05-16-2005 10:45 AM

lookout deserves the prize for most tactful reply to a thread EVER

BigV 05-16-2005 11:00 AM

Dear Catwoman:

I have enjoyed reading your posts over the past several months. Your writing is articulate and provocative. You can be scathingly honest, especially with yourself. I have watched you wrestle with serious personal difficulties, which for many people would be daunting enough, but you not only face your demons, you do so in this unusual pseudo-public forum. That requires courage and maturity. Your own personal and emotional growth is your reward, my reward is to witness it.

jaguar 05-16-2005 11:48 AM

I don't think I've ever had something nasty to say about BigV and he's on more than 1000 posts which I think makes him utterly unique.

elSicomoro 05-16-2005 11:49 AM

Jag is a brilliant motherfucker. And he hosts all my websites for free...he rocks!

Elspode 05-16-2005 11:53 AM

Sycamore is a fellow Missourian, which makes him slightly more than magnificent to begin with. Add to that his sparkling wit and a keen eye for hipness, and you have the real deal.

OnyxCougar 05-16-2005 12:05 PM

Elspode has been, is now and I daresay continues to be one of the most outstanding people I have ever had the pleasure of being in contact with.

He takes us with him on the emotional battlefront when his son is having problems, or when he's working two jobs, or when the bullies are picking on the kids.

He writes the best eulogies ever.

He is simply a good, good, man.

(and since I posted twice, the next person can skip me and rave about him some more...)

Gwennie! 05-16-2005 12:46 PM

I'll rave about UnderToad some more. He made me feel better and rejoin this fine crowd. And he's always friendly and good spirited.

kerosene 05-16-2005 01:55 PM

Okay, making this short and sweet:

Gwennie = fun and interesting
OC = rockin out chick...afraid of nothing
Elspode = insightful and honest
sycamore = cool as fuck
jaguar = cute, smart and cocky in an endearing way
BigV = mellow
Catwoman = soulbaringly open and honest
Lookout = interesting posts...I look forward to reading them
UT = Super cool...has unique and usually short posts (a good thing IMHO)

I could go into more detail, but I will spare you all. Just wanted to express the things I like about you guys.

breakingnews 05-16-2005 02:11 PM

Even though case is totally not following directions for this thread, she's astoundingly cute and awful purdy and kicks a magnificent amount of booty because she is just one of two cellardwellars who's contacted me by instant messenger. And, as we can see from her post, she has quite a generous heart.

mrnoodle 05-16-2005 03:02 PM

breakingnews has never posted a mean-spirited thing on here that i've been able to find. some dark humor, but never mean. everyone should aspire to that kind of um. postage?

all this despite being a "disgruntled minority reporter", probably from some left-wing pinko rag in NYC :D

lookout123 05-16-2005 03:16 PM

mrnoodle not only is wise in his choice of Sesame Street inspired names, but he kicks a fair amount of ass musically.

kerosene 05-16-2005 04:12 PM

Lookout posts on word the word association thread faster than anyone I know.

lookout123 05-16-2005 04:47 PM

case is obviously one of the most gorgeous young ladies to ever descend into the cellar, but what isn't as obvious is her creative flair. case has built a most excellent little studio in her new home in which she can work on her next big jewelry project or whatever catches her fancy.

Clodfobble 05-16-2005 05:46 PM

Lookout is always willing to share his knowledge, which makes him not just a good poster but a good person. He is also very articulate when it comes to complex political views.

Beestie 05-16-2005 05:50 PM

Clodfobble is one of my favorite posters here. I rarely if ever regret clicking on a clodfobble post and am usually enlightened by her razor sharp ability to get right to the point. And she usually tosses in a pretty good joke as an extra bonus.

BigV 05-16-2005 06:11 PM

Dear Beestie:

You were right--all I had to do was wait for you to walk right into one.

You're consistently friendly. You work in education, and that's major points in my book. *salutes* You have the courage of your convictions, which is honorable. You lack the common nastyness and intolerance demonstrated by others defending the same convictions. That makes you the bigger man. Keep the faith.

footfootfoot 05-16-2005 08:02 PM

BigV, littleV,
What begins with V?

Valuable, Virtuous, Vibrant,
V V V.

lumberjim 05-16-2005 09:05 PM

footfootfoot is.....well, he's three feet long. top that shit, man!

plus, he usually makes me laugh.

i'm a little pissed that i didnt get to do beestie, actually. too busy 'working' too keep up with you fuckers

Pie 05-16-2005 09:30 PM

Um... Cock!
Lumberjim's the best at knocking me off balance... And I like his eyes.

jinx 05-16-2005 10:20 PM

Mmmm... Pie :yum:. I like Pie. Always so down to earth and witty... smart, funny, tasty with ice cream. Pie is good.

lumberjim 05-16-2005 10:54 PM

wtf?

plthijinx 05-16-2005 11:10 PM

ooooooh i'm a lumberjack and i'm ok, i sleep all night and i work all day! lol, na, your just good people bro, i for one, and i'm sure many others are pleased to know you and get your insights!

wolf 05-17-2005 08:36 AM

A gentleman of great renown, a hunter, a pilot of unsurpassed excellence ... and he gets to hang out with NBN. How cool is that?

Catwoman 05-17-2005 08:39 AM

Bit of a tart, but genuinely funny. Has made me laugh more than anyone else here (lumberjim close second). Understands the power of understatement.

mrnoodle 05-17-2005 10:02 AM

Catwoman is quite honest about herself and how she feels about others. Makes no bones about it, refuses to back down when someone confronts her. That's kind of hot.

Just for the record, she's still wrong about whatever she last argued with ME about.

elSicomoro 05-17-2005 10:24 AM

Mr. Noodle plays in a kick-ass band. I thoroughly enjoy Gas Head's "Knuckles Avec Sombreros" CD.

wolf 05-17-2005 11:05 AM

Sycamore is the pimp, and he will be sorely missed by the Philadephia contingent.

BigV 05-17-2005 11:14 AM

Dear wolf:

Staking out this thread has led me to this reward: I get to follow you.

You extended your hand in friendship to me early in my time here in the cellar, and that means a lot to a n00b. Thank you. Common courtesy, you claim. Perhaps. But your witty posts almost always bring a smile to my face. Your arid, spare style is not common. Brevity, they say, is the soul of wit, which makes you one of the most soulful people I know.
I, on the other hand, clearly sold mine for more ink and paper. :p

lookout123 05-17-2005 11:16 AM

BigV has given me the joy of chasing a nearly endless number of links to the ends of the internet. He has immense compassion for children and rocksolid conviction in the things in which he believes.

lookout123 05-18-2005 11:12 AM

hey UT, how are we coming on that "# of threads killed by..." feature. i think it is fair to say that i killed this thread...dead. hey - i'm like Raid for good feelings.

jaguar 05-18-2005 11:17 AM

I don't always agree with lookout but he knows his shit and is often very lucid.

hot_pastrami 05-18-2005 05:11 PM

Jag can be blunt, but he speaks his mind honestly, which is a quality I admire. Plus, he thought of something nice to say about lookout123.*

*I jest! Lookout is an excessively decent and compliment-worthy chap.

tw. 05-18-2005 05:30 PM

hot pastrami has gotta be like 2500 years old. he's so freakin smart, and funny, and moral. plus, his taste in music doesn't suck.

Gwennie! 05-18-2005 05:49 PM

Well, I didn't know the light-posting tw. So, I did some research and it appears to be a second ID of LumberJim. So, I will praise him instead.

LJ is a studly fellow. Last year he showed me his Yule Log and I was impressed. :grinnylov:

BigMcLargeHuge 05-18-2005 06:02 PM

Gwennie is a MILF!

MILF's are good, mmkay?

Gwennie! 05-18-2005 06:31 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Well, I had to look that up and Wikipedia has a disambiguation page for MILF. I'm guessing that you don't mean "Moro Islamic Liberation Front".

Since BigMcLargeHuge has only three posts, I'm also guessing that I have a secret admirer behind a secondary ID. I like mystery.

What can you say about someone with three posts? He's a hella great guy because 1/3 of the time he wrote about me! BigMcLargeHuge is intelligent, hard working, thoughtful, sexy, and provacative. :)

lookout123 05-26-2005 03:02 PM

i revive this thread with a comment about the one and only XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOOXbruce.

the man is a very well rounded human. or well rounding, if you prefer. bruce is outstanding at showing compassion when it is due, calling BS when needed, providing factual support for his beliefs, researching issues we are to cut through our conjecture, welcoming the new and picked upon cellarites, providing a pick-me-up for the downcast, and finding many wonderful images to pass on to us via the UT-IOTD route.

thank you bruce.

Lady Sidhe 05-26-2005 03:31 PM

Lookout has great taste in taglines...""What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say." I love quotes, and I've added that one to my collection. I don't know Lookout that well, but anyone with good taste in quotes can't be all bad. :D

Sidhe

warch 05-26-2005 05:02 PM

The lady often post statements and opinions that invigorate me to respond! Keeps it lively. :)

Warch is a very diplomatic person. Something to be admired. "Lively"... Now if that isn't diplomatic, I don't know what is. A damn sight better than narrow-minded and bloodthirsty, I can tell ya THAT! Thanks! ;)

footfootfoot 05-27-2005 08:30 PM

Lady Sidhe,
Quoting one of my favorite comediennes, free and easy with the smilies, makes me remember why I am glad I found the cellar, and to top it off: anyone who can elicit this response from a heartfelt poem is more than OK in my book:

triple foot has an awesome take on photography and i am grateful that many of us got to join into the paintcan photography project.

lumberjim 05-27-2005 10:20 PM

lookout thinks i'm the coolest. so....he has great taste in people, obviously.

lookout123 05-27-2005 10:55 PM

LJ, thought i was worthy of a few words. i look up to him for so many reasons that i am TRULY blessed that such a man even knows who i am. i am not worthy to clean the crud from beneath his fingernails. thank you. thank you. thank you.

Undertoad 05-28-2005 08:19 AM

l123 is dedicated to raising his offspring as best as possible, which I believe is one of the greatest things you can say about a person.

wolf 05-28-2005 09:24 AM

UT is bass player with awesome chops, an all around interesting guy, and patient enough to put up with all of us and keep The Cellar going. Yay, Toad!!

Sun_Sparkz 06-08-2005 11:59 PM

Wolf is cool. She makes me smile at her posts, I agree with most of them, and she always explains things to me when i am too Aussie to understand!!

I like that she can be such a reformed, nice lady.. (i mean she likes tapestry she has to be cool;) ) But still a gun totin, shooting woooMAN!! and can pull it off too!

:)

Silent 06-09-2005 07:29 AM

Sun_Sparkz appears caring and non-judgemental. She tries to build people up rather then take the easy route and tear them down. Plus she's an Aussie which is pretty cool on GP's.

And she looks pretty damn hot.

dar512 06-09-2005 08:47 AM

Silent was willing to take on the Field of 64. I think that's cool.

elSicomoro 06-09-2005 09:10 AM

Dar is from St. Louis, and people from St. Louis inherently kick ass, so...do the math. :)

jinx 06-09-2005 12:41 PM

Sycamore cracks my ass up. Funny, funny guy.

Elspode 06-09-2005 12:41 PM

Sycamore is a fellow Missourian, and therefore a person of obvious quality and breeding...for a pimp.

Clodfobble 06-09-2005 01:03 PM

Jinx and Elspode obviously have tapped into the collective unconscious, an amazing feat that requires a very strong mind.

OnyxCougar 06-19-2005 10:16 AM

Clod usually has an insight that I hadn't considered before, and I don't think I've seen Clod ever get personally insultive. I really admire that.

elSicomoro 06-19-2005 10:19 AM

Onyx always has interesting stories of all emotions to tell.

limey 06-20-2005 05:20 PM

Sycamore - someone it's better to lean on than take an axe to ...

capnhowdy 06-28-2005 11:24 AM

Limey is , to me an endless fountain of USABLE knowlege, and has an uncanny way of saying a lot with so few words.
