My latest project
Do I get to spam you guys? I announce this here partly to let people know why I've screwed up IotD posting times, didn't have time to listen to Cellar music project thingies, forgot to reply to people, and begged off stuff at the last minute.
Melody Mill is "soft launching with limited functionality" at this point. It's a way for musicians with CDs to basically be their own publishers - they can sell their CDs online and we take a small cut (much lower than, say, Cafepress) for manufacturing and a tiny profit. They can put a link to a melodymill.com sales page and sell their own stuff through their own web site. Now that a lot of the hard part of this is done, I will have no excuse for not getting around to things. |
Listen! Is that the sound of the current recording industry falling apart?
I'd like to think so. |
sweet man! gool duck with the project!
Congrats and best of luck! I will definitely pass this on to all of my musician friends.......
Oh yes, it's also why I didn't fix the field of 64 after the hacking. Now I have no excuse, except for that I also have to get back to everything else I put off.
You're so brutal on you...lighten up. UT, this project of yours, the cellar, is so cool. You don't have to apologize for anything. I wrangle a fair herd of computers myself and I understand the scope of the task. Dude, you ROCK!!
Do you have a method of accepting referrals? Like if I know a band, etc, etc?
That's in the pipeline. And thanks!
Cool concept, UT. I know a fair number of musicians and will pass the info along! ;)
Sweet!
Great Idea! |
Wow! That is so appealing to guys that just want to make music (and money). You are a freaking genius.
Thanks all! That's exactly it G - what we found is that if we bought a lot of expensive equipment, we could produce CDs that are professional-quality even if they are CDRs. Cafepress takes $7 per disk and after we ran the numbers we found we could still make money at half that.
It's half my idea, half my business partner's idea (we're only geniuses if we work together) and a damn sight better than having a real job. If anyone has any comments on the site and how to make it better please forward them! Thx! |
If you could only supply talent and groupies, I could be a Rock Star (sigh)
If the execution is half as good as the idea I don't see how you can miss. New truck, hot babe, cool chops, great garden, envious ex......you da man. :notworthy |
Great concept, UT. If I actually pull Sycamore (the band) out of dormancy (which I'm currently thinking of doing), I might need to talk to you.
I'm sold. Now I'm going to have to get off my ass and get the Yeats project with Lane finished.
Are you guys going to do any distribution of existing product? There's still a buncha Tristan and Iseult that needs to be moved. |
No, only because there's only so much office space you know!
What model of CD burner/printer did you get, then? Something relatively hot shit?
The primary machine is a Rimage 2000i which does 4800dpi thermal ink jet printing on discs. That's right, thermal ink jet. The ink is jetted and then burned, or at least dried, onto the top of the disk. It looks great!
And it's expensive as hell! But what're ya gonna do. |

UT, is this fully functional now?
It's kind of in a "soft launch" status. By the end of the [long] week[end] all the back end bits will be in place that manage the back-end functions of the site, and next week about 100 artists (poss. including some "name" ones btw!) will start working with it.
oooo. GasHead will talk about this option for the upcoming vocal EP.... nice work!
Can I tell John Bobson...?
It beats me what the heck all of this means, :biggrindu but what I have gleaned is UT and a buddy had a great idea, and instead of just talking about it, DID something about making it happen. Way to go, and good luck with the project.

Awesome
Toad,
The site looks nice and it's a great idea. I wish you the best of luck. Too bad I have zero negative creative talent and won't be able to use it. I do have some friends that are talented and I will certainly pass this along. Jerry |
So what has happened with the Melodymill project? heard about it downloaded templates for CD art, went back to set up an account and poof it was gone. I thought it was great idea and was gonna use it for several projects that don't want to do big runs on.
