DQ

French Silk Blizzards are as good as they sound they should be from the advertising.

That is all.

Lucy 08-13-2005 10:42 PM

Choco Tacos aren't too bad. Not a DQ delicacy but tasty, nonetheless.

As you were.

wolf 08-13-2005 10:44 PM

I have been disappointed by the ChocoTaco as there is nowhere near enough chocolate, and the graham taco shell is rarely crispy.

Lucy 08-13-2005 10:46 PM

Oh. That's supposed to be graham? And crunchy too, eh?
I was reminded of a Drumstick but...different.
In my eyes, you can't beat a nice bowl of chocolate ice cream.

wolf 08-13-2005 10:49 PM

Sure you can. Try putting some of that Magic Shell Stuff on the chocolate ice cream. Or even just plain Hershey's Syrup or better yet honest-to-goodness hot fudge.

Uh, no, it isn't that time of the month. Why do you ask?

Lucy 08-13-2005 10:52 PM

Chocolate on chocolate? I don't think so.

wolf 08-13-2005 10:53 PM

You don't know what you're missing.

Lucy 08-13-2005 10:55 PM

But if you start with good chocolate ice cream, you really don't need any embellishments.
Do you?

wolf 08-13-2005 11:07 PM

Perhaps they do things differently below the Mason-Dixon line.

Lucy 08-13-2005 11:16 PM

I think it's just me.

lumberjim 08-14-2005 12:59 AM

i got a 5 lb hersheys bar on wednesday. I'm scared of it. i think i need to give it away as a gift.

capnhowdy 08-14-2005 08:17 AM

it'll put your eye out!

Clodfobble 08-14-2005 06:57 PM

We stopped at a DQ on the way back from Houston this morning... Steak fingers were as greasy-bad-good as I remember them being. I hadn't realized the Blizzards weren't the same ice cream as the soft-serve though--I usually get a cone, but we wanted to get back on the road. I definitely was more in the mood for the soft-serve.

Perry Winkle 08-14-2005 08:31 PM

Brownie batter blizzard. WOW.

melidasaur 08-14-2005 09:15 PM

Georgia Mud Blizzard is even better than the brownie batter.

Technically, it's the belt buckle that puts out the eye.

Mr. Incredible: Maybe just a salad!

Wow, Wolf supports leftist wingnuts after all. I knew it! :)

wolf 08-19-2005 12:13 AM

Where the fuck do you get that from? It's Dairy Queen, not Drama Queen, and I still won't eat Ben & Jerry's because of the whole Mumia thing ...

Kinda like how everyone who bought Heinz ketchup last year supported the left. :)

wolf 08-19-2005 11:07 AM

Okay, so what ice cream does Halliburton own?

SteveDallas 08-19-2005 11:53 AM

The Blizzards are my favorites from DQ, with Oreo taking top honors followed closely by the Banana Split.

mrnoodle 08-22-2005 05:57 PM

mmm Blizzards.

I remember the summer they first came out with those, my family was in Durango on vacation to ride the narrow gauge railroad. My brother and I had seen the commercial, and we pestered our parents nonstop for hours until they let us have one. It remains to this day the pinnacle of my gustatory experience (just because of the drama of trying to get one, and the payoff of ice cream after a long day's drive).

lookout123 08-22-2005 06:03 PM

oreo mint blizzard

mmmm

Perry Winkle 08-22-2005 06:06 PM

I'm into the nasty, in a good way, quasi-baked-good blizzards. Nothing beats Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Brownie Batter Blizzards. I am not a big fan of the cheesecake blizzards they had for a while. There is a place, "Custard's Last Stand" in Lee's Summit, Missouri that makes a killer strawberry cheesecake concrete.

wolf 08-23-2005 01:29 AM

I just got coupons for the DQ in the mail ... of course this means that the ambulance will be running their asses off until the day after they expire, and I won't get one.

melidasaur 08-23-2005 02:26 PM

I'm telling you, the Georgia Mud Fudge Blizzard is awesome... it's similar to the brownie batter blizzard but not as rich and it has pecan pieces. Yum. I'm curious about the Key Lime one... anyone tried it?

Mmmm, pecans!

I'll let you try the Key Lime first, and report back to us. Sounds....fishy. Kind of like the caramel-toffee cheesecake blizzard atrocity I had a couple years ago at DQ. GROOOOOOSS.

Damn... I want someone else to try it first, but I guess I'll have to take the plunge. I'm sure I'll like the banana cream pie one, but the key lime one (as much as I like key lime) sounds scary!

Dagney 08-23-2005 05:39 PM

I tried it...it actually wasn't that bad.

Graham crackers, cheesecakey type chunks, and some...odd somewhat limey flavoring..

Okay, yeah, now that i think about it, it was gross.

Durnit

Bah! Thanks for doing the recon work though!

melidasaur 08-23-2005 09:33 PM

I think i'll stick with the chocolate based blizzards.

wolf 08-24-2005 12:36 AM

You can't go wrong with chocolate.

Oh wait. You can. As difficult as it is to believe there are some flavors that do not mix well with chocolate.

I've never been able to tolerate chocolate dipped strawberries. Most people I know rave about them but I must have messed up tastebuds.

wolf 08-24-2005 01:05 AM

Do you like the strawberries plain? It might just be one of those food in other food aversions, like the one I have to raisins ... or a texture issue.

Raisins: grapes that didn't make the wine cut. :blech:

The only way I don't like strawberries is when they're dipped in chocolate. So I'm pretty sure it's a taste thing. There's something about the slight sour taste in a strawberry that clashes with the bright sweetness of the chocolate. The problem might be that I've only had strawberries dipped in milk chocolate. Perhaps if they were dipped in some good high quality dark I'd like them.

I am a big fan of raisins. What's your issue with them?

I love raisins and grapes are ok but wine is most definitely not my thing. Wine never tastes like anything to me. Granted, I've only tried the house wine at a couple of Italian restaurants where they practically force it in to you.

Queen of the Ryche 08-24-2005 09:43 AM

Sam: You don't like raisins?
Joon: Not really.
Sam: Why?
Joon: They used to be fat and juicy and now they're twisted. They had their lives stolen. Well, they taste sweet, but really they're just humiliated grapes. I can't say I am a big supporter of the raisin council.

I had sort of a chocolate strawberry adversion too until I had some that were really good. First, the chocolate layer has to be thin, hard and cold. The berries have to be firm and slightly sweet. There is nothing worse than a mushy berry in a shell of chocolate. Finally, dark chocolate is much better than milk for dipping and even white chocolate is pretty good too - provides a good contrast.

They're okay alone, although my preference is for other dried fruits like pineapple, peaches, mango, etc.

What I can't stand is raisins IN other food ... like cinnamon buns, cookies, breads, and so forth. They're just yucky that way.

Benny and Joon is one of my all time favorite movies.

If I didn't have my cinnamon raisin bread I'd be a sad panda. I'd call your aversion strange if I didn't have one even more out there: I can only eat vegetables that are served in an Indian dish, or prepared as they are in India/Indian Restaurants. That means I'll eat curried just about anything but a leaf of lettuce is a no go.

I'll have to find some good ones. Over christmas break I'll be near some of the meccas of chocolate so maybe that'll be the ticket to awesome chocolate dipped strawberries.

SteveDallas 08-24-2005 11:48 AM

I don't like strawberries in any form.

My family thinks I'm weird.

wolf 08-24-2005 12:21 PM

They probably think that for other reasons.

kelliekd 09-07-2005 03:14 PM

:yum: My first job was at a chocolate store...strawberries are delicious in white chocolate. I agree with the grossness of milk chocolate dipped strawberries. I also loved the caramel apples we made. There was one, apple, caramel, white chocolate, and cinnamin/sugar mixture. Spectatular!! :yum:
