8/18/2005: Truckin' in Amarillo [updated: in Oklahoma City]
http://cellar.org/2005/amarillo1.jpg
Presented as a series I guess, and sort of self-documenting. This might have made our WTF thread instead, but lookie I've put it here. http://cellar.org/2005/amarillo2.jpg http://cellar.org/2005/amarillo3.jpg |
What's your problem? I travel like that all the time!
Snob. |
Paint doesn't take kindly to duct tape, esp. when melted from the Texas sun :greenface
|
For those who scoff at the multiple uses of duct tape....
All that's missing in these pictures is a ciggy hanging out of the drivers mouth and a dead deer head sticking out of the back of the car. Ahh, perfection. |
I wonder....
I imagine she's making good on her threat to leave ("and I'm takin' my STUFF TOO!"). They look like they've been driving a while. Her left shoulder is sunburned. I can't make out the plate, but it doesn't look like Texas. Maybe Florida or Georgia. She's seen some setbacks (bunged up fender, car broken into through left rear quarter window), but she's doing something about it. The optimism and determination displayed here is admirable. Good Luck to you. I hope everything turns out better. |
I would love to hear the story that lead up to these pictures. The sunburn might not be from this trip, coulda happened before, who knows. If the story is she's leaving her hubby tho, I am interested in the reason for a ring still on her left hand. I'd have pawned it for $$ for a U-haul myself...
|
She's probably saving the ring for her first month's rent and crack order at her destination.
|
I guess The Joads are still on the road...

OK, How flippin bazaar is this? I found these pics on http://www.okroads.com/dandm/i44ok.html. What are the odds of me typing in Exit 120A and coming across these? I love the internet!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...0/IMAG0004.jpg Anyway, plates don't mean much, of course. But the fact that Exit 120A on Hwy 40 to Amarillo is in Oklahoma does. Oh, great. I just confirmed that I share a state with these people. |

It makes perfect sense. Your skin can look ugly and sunburned all the time, and later you can get skin cancer. It's win-win! |

OK... that makes the Grapes of Wrath reference even more poignant.
But as a wise person once said: Before you go making fun of someone; maybe you should drive a 100 miles in their car... |
To really polish this image off they should have duct taped the big yellow teddy bear to an old rocking chair and sat him on top of the car.
I think, if she did skedaddle on her old man she took the kid(s) with her also. She most likely took the young man riding shotgun so he could hold the passengers door closed. You must really sweat the small stuff when it comes to travel safety. She looks identical to a girl down here that owes me 60 bucks. Maybe THAT's what happened........ |
I think OK is the state too. Good catch. I hadn't seen that plate before, but here's a pic of one I remembered. You can see why I suggested it. Look at the one in the lower left hand corner.

ahhhh.... you reminded me of the infamous Florida plate:

I've driven on that piece of highway a few times before...I didn't have that much stuff on my car, though.

'Is this the way to Amarillo?'
(Tony Christie 1960's re-release and no.1 in May this Year!) OK so you've never heard of Tony Christie - but if there was a US equivalent then you should all be humming it by now - if not, you could buy the single or even download the ringtone! Otherwise you'll never know what you've been missing! :jig: |
A good thunderstorm would make it much more exciting. :eyebrow:
|
This vehicle is actually the latest in tornado tracking. Meteorologists, noting that tornados tend to set down right in trailer parks, have created a MOBILE trailer park and have dubbed this the BAITMOBILE. I would venture to say that right after these pictures were taken, scientists made vast and immediate progress as an F5 tornado touched down right on TOP of that car.

Yes, wonderful country overrun by American way of life ! :eek2:
No respect for the traditions (real pictures, details excepted) |
I don't think I would have been brave enough to pass behind this car to take pictures.
