Not that anyone really cares, but...
If you notice my diminished presence in the cellar, it is not due to any free choice of my own. As some may remember I established a new office for my business last fall. When i did that I started using the firm's equipment and connections because it is much more cost effective than setting up my own system in two locations. As my biz has grown i have transitioned to spending pretty much all of my time at the formal, firm owned office (50-60 hours/week).
i spend most of my day on the phone with clients or prospects talking about issues and concerns that i can handle in my sleep. i kept the cellar up on my screen most of the day and would post a lot. that finally caught up to me last week as i logged in to find that the firm's netnanny system had finally recognized the cellar as a BBS/forum and blocked access. a couple cellarites, kind souls that they are, offered me insight on how to beat the net nanny and regain access. i am really tempted, but the reality is that IN THEORY due to the regulatory environment i am banned from participating in BBS's/forums at all. now that they have defined the cellar as such (stupid bastards aren't smart enough to recognize that this is acommunity :grouphug: ) i don't want to risk my licensing by messing with the firm's systems. :lame: so all that to say this - i won't be posting as much. i will only have access from home and most of my home time is filled with entertaining a star wars fanatic... i mean playing with my son who also enjoys star wars. i will still post when i get a chance, but it will probably be even less than the awe inspiring Lumberjim as i do not have the luxury of a wife who understands the cellar for what it is. (but as some of you may recall, she is a bit of a nymph, so who am i to complain?) One final note: i have enjoyed providing the cellarite fact of the day and not enough of you have complained loudly enough about it yet... so i will continue with this habit. because i will have limited access and fewer posts in which people can see themselves singled out, effective immediately, i will begin posting the cellarite fact of the day in a new thread, name appropriately enough Random Cellarite Fact of the Day. thank you all so much for being my primary social interaction for the last year +. i won't be here as much, but don't forget about me. i'm the thorn in your side that won't subside. |
Put On Our Faces
A lawyer who lives in Phoenix that represents pornstars and has no social life, huh? Hmmmmm. Yes, the internet can be a kind friend during the lonely hours of the night. I often come back to the office when no one is here, at least in my part of the "building" just to see if any I know is chatting. Nightowl, perhaps? This is the place where we can all politic, walk the red carpet, voice our opinions, say the things we would never dare to say in public, and we do it all in privacy and anonymously. We can put on our faces and become the people we wanted to be but failed to become. We talk the talk, and it doesn't matter if we can't walk the walk. It's irrelevant. What is relevant is that other people are listening and responding to what each of us has to say. Don't feel so bad, Lookout. Party with your clients for the love of God. Go the movies, read a book, go to the park, go to the mall, do something. Don't feel bad though. This place is fun. Go Lawyer Tiger!!!!!

If home pc is running XP, you could run a remote desktop session on it and access from work.

pornstars?!?!? can i get some portrait autographs?! pleaaaaaaaase?????
(only from the hot chicks though!) |
What's with everyone getting lives around here? Sheesh, I'm beginning to feel left out. Maybe when the flurries fly it'll be a little more acctive around here.
'Spose I could get to work... |
not a lawyer. financial advisor.
i'm looking into the remote access option Dar. NG - i have a pretty active life, that is why i don't have time to post outside of work. |
I waiting for the day when I log on one morning only to find to my horror that the Comm Sq. has realized the Cellar is a forum and killed my access. I don't get time to access it from home as much so it would be the kiss-of-death for me too.

Yeah, this is why I don't work for other people. I wouldn't put up with this bullshit under any circumstances.

This is a serious misunderstanding of how society operates in 2005. I would encourage you to leave your current employer, as they are not cluetrained, and will inevitably fail. But this will take long enough that you can still manage to get money out of them. I give them 10 years. Markets are conversations. The Internet treats censorship as a network failure, and routes around it. |
actually the firm is great to work for and will be around for a long time because they really really really do take care of their people - ALL their people. this censorship crap is due to asshats like elliot spitzer. they will completely misrepresent anything, regardless of reality, to get another soundbyte where they are pretending to care about the little people so they've got a shot at the next election.

What's really worse is when they stop caring. With the core of the dominant party now interested mostly in social conservatism, it's been a green light to steal everything while talking about school prayer, creationism, etc. |
yeah, spitzer looks great to the public. unfortunately if you look at what he is really targeting you'll see that it is high profile, juicy stuff that he can dumb down on the front page of the WSJ. he is ignoring real issues in favor of good soundbytes. elliot spitzer is a fucking piece of shit. end of story.
and to automatically say that the alternative is blind theft from greedy companies is BS. someone who actually cared more about doing their job for the sake of doing their job rather than the next press conference would be preferable to spitzer. |
enough about all that, i want to know more about the porn stars!! :D

could also be "constipated"

One reason why stockbrokers so hate Spitzer is that NY State will investigate crimes that the SEC will not touch - for suspicious political reasons. This refusal to investigate was blatant especially under the dynasty of Harvey Pitts who refused to investigate Enron, Global Crossing, et al AND refused to take more a substantial budget increase from Congress to expand such investigations. So who then does investigate crime in the finance markets? Over the many decades, it is almost always NY State that prosecuted people like Michael Milken, Martin Siegel, and Ivan Boesky. |
tw - do you know what a 12b-1 fee is? i assume spitzer should know since he has spent going on 3 years splashing them on the headlines. i say SHOULD know, because he continues to misrepresent them.
do you know what revenue sharing is? not the bullshit boogeyman that spitzer has splashed on the news, but the reality of how they are paid, who pays them, and why they exist? do you know the purpose of the "know your client" rule? spitzer and his boys should, but they use it to fuck people for soundbytes instead of going after real issues. how about the "prudent man" rule? heard of that one? same story. do you know the difference between a financial "advisor" and a "broker"? again, spitzer should, but he chooses to ignore the fact that Merrill Lynch brokers advertise themselves as advisors. hmmm, i wonder what kind of presence and influence ML has in NY voting circles? do you know the difference between and educated skeptic and a delusional prick with a superiority complex? the skeptic realizes that big businesses need to be monitored and disciplined when necessary. the other guy? he assumes that anyone sticking it to a business must be doing the right thing without bothering to look into the facts. spitzer has looked into some issues that needed to be addressed like late trading, bid rigging, etc. he also has spent needless time and money going after honest people and misrepresenting the facts so he would look good in the papers. it is amazing to me that someone who is so capable of seeing and screaming about the stupid, immoral, and unethical actions of some government officials can be a blinded sycophant for others. |
...and he didn't reply??
point for L123!! |
I got a life and frankly, it's damned inconvenient........I get no time to play online games, I haven't alphabetically organised my CD's for ages and I'm lucky if I make it down the cellar once a month.
Clearly the answer is to give up my satisfying ( but low paid) job, abandon all ambition for the future and get back to the more inportant things in life like Internet communication and general fuckwittery. :) |
I'm not around much these days due to...ummm...a change of scenery. Yep...that's what I'll go with. :)
