9/2/2005: Pig race

http://cellar.org/2005/pigrace.jpg

We've seen this sort of thing before, but why not more of it? xoB and WaPo send along this item and it says this race took place at the Montana State Fair. No word on who the pigs are, or who won.

Reicarnation of Dale Sr.?
I like me some pigs. I've heard they are very intelligent. We had them when I was a kid but I hated them 'cause I had to carry food and water to them for half a mile.
Maybe I'll wait till tommorrow to cook those pork chops.

gerstle 09-02-2005 04:43 PM

mmmmmmm pork chops.....

(said while drooling out of mouth in a homer simpson voice)

xoxoxoBruce 09-02-2005 05:47 PM

Oh dear, I'm sorry....I forgot to mention all the pigs won.

Promenea 09-02-2005 06:08 PM

Hey, those pigs look like they are moving really fast! Good pigs, good pigs of course they all won.

capnhowdy 09-02-2005 08:21 PM

And theyr'e off

I saw something similiar at the Arlington Co. Fair here in Va.
They had pigs racing, one was Brittany Spearibs, and Rosanne Boar,
Quite funny

Those pigs are really flying! - but then hey always said they would, one day...

Saknussem 09-06-2005 02:02 AM

Pigs in blankets?

Cyclefrance 09-06-2005 03:38 AM

Looks like yellow blanket was ahead but then started playing to the camera - while blue blanket definitely has a smirk of wry satisfaction on his lips as he takes the lead - who would have guessed that pigs could be so, well, human...? (apart from most of the Cellar members, that is...)

salinaspaul 09-06-2005 11:57 AM

Those are "Some Pigs!"

cjjulie 09-07-2005 12:26 PM

I actually saw a pig race once at a country fair in CT.

*insert redneck joke here* :eyebrow:

wolf 09-07-2005 01:24 PM

That's okay. I saw a sheep shearing at the New York State Fair.

Trilby 09-07-2005 02:30 PM

That's nothing. I saw Junebug, Snake and Gypsy dueling beer cans at the bonfire. Really.

(is it considered 'dueling' if it's a three-way?)

BigV 09-07-2005 04:10 PM

[beavis]heh heh heh she said three way.. heh heh[/butthead]

Trilby 09-07-2005 04:31 PM

I see your three-way and up you an Applebee's Coupon.

Chicken.

BigV 09-07-2005 04:54 PM

I know its an old pic & an old thread, but both the picture and this post made me snort with laughter. I am getting suspicious looks and have tea in my nose. Thought that was worth reporting.

xoxoxoBruce 10-03-2005 06:42 PM

Then we can consider it a success. :D

NPR had a nice little story recently about a man in the pig-racing business.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=5534288

"Zach Johnson is in the racing business. But he doesn't race horses, dogs, cars or bikes. He races pigs. He takes his pig team and sets up Porkchop Downs on the county fair and carnival circuit, eight months of the year. His company, Swifty Swine Productions, has plenty of competition in the pig racing field."
