Lookin' Back
02/02/01 :)
|
*rubs his eyes* God, I don't quite remember it looking like that...it seems so long ago.
|
HEY! that's the logo that was there when i started viewing it and stuff. and i'm pretty sure that's what the rest of the site looked like tool. when did it change? that'd give me a real good idea of when i started browsing :)
|
The software upgrade happened 6/27/01. HB's logo came in 7/19/01.

Shit. We already know I was here before that.
I'm just going to call it "some time in April". I think that's probably right. :) |
|
I think the post that is in politics there is the first one i posted one, so i must've regged very shortly after that, i remember the logo, but those colours? I remember people claiming these colours were too corperate too.
jaguar: 04-12-2001 Makes sense. |
Heh. I know what day I registered.
I also know that I'd been reading the Cellar daily for a month or two before then. Oh well. |

Yep |
You have too much time on your hands :p
:)  :p  :D ;) sorry i just had a terrible urge to do that:confused: |
btw, what was the circumstance that caused 809 users to be online at the Cellar on 10/18/2001?
|
I submitted an image of the day to fark.com and they published it. Within an hour, there it was. Almost all guests but we did see a bunch of new users on that day. The previous record was 43, I think.
|
The IR thread was up then, one of my earliest rants.
|
IR? Eh? InfraRed?
|
yep.
|
Heh heh,
Dagnabit was on board then, I miss that guy. ;) http://web.archive.org/web/200201141...hp?threadid=88 |
Yeah, so do I. ;)
*laughs at Griff's use of the asterisks for "ass"* Hey UT, I thought that there was potty-word blocking software on here. But of course, some folks here (jag, dham, me) are liberal with their use of the word "fuck." And it shows up. Did you change that or something? |

*cough cough* *cough cough cough cough cough cough cough cough cough* Ahem. Some would say he never left... |
I would never ever install such a thing. Your words are your own, to put together as you see fit.
If people are offended and leave, then we may be worse off for it -- in as much as we feel worse off by discouraging people with delicate sensibilities. I have had many acquaintances like that, but no friends. But I have benefitted from knowing these folks, and from speaking with them. |
Hence my attempts to control of flights off the handle when someone that hasn't been around more than a few weeks is participating. :)
|
Censorship is evil!
Free speach! First amendmant! anyway... From my persective if peopel are offended by language chances are some of my views are going to cause them to go into convulsions so.... Of course the majority of them would be the kind of people i *love* offending anyway so. btw, if you're ever bored go here Don't say i didn't warn you. |
Well, I can't remember if I ever even wrote the word fuck on here. So there it is. Fuck.
This fits within the spirit of the thread. While all the words on here since 1/13/01 are still on here, there are years and years and years of words that never got googled, that were expired, never to be retrieved. There would be a lot of wisdom to be found in it. Beyond just working out whether I've ever posted a post with the word fuck in it. I remember, back in the day, atrw0176 (yeah, that was his handle) posting a long list of predictions for what would happen after Clinton got into office. Because I knew his list would be interesting, I kept a copy of it, and about a year and a half later, I posted it. Most of his predictions were wrong. But what was really cool was that it was a look back at how someone felt only 18 months previously, and the historical value of it was just wonderful. For future historians, the archived messages of public forums will be a remarkable treasure trove. Can you imagine reading a similar message board of 50, or 100 years ago? 200 years ago? 500 years ago? It seems to me that history really fails to tell us about the ordinary people of a time. What did they spend time doing? What did they feel was important? Why did they have the values they did? |
Something occurs to me:
We must, then, save everything that is written here. Just keep it all. I hope you're making backups of that hard drive, Tony. :) I've come across some old Cellar postings in Tony's Cookie of the Second, and it's cool to see the kind of stuff that was going on. I only wish I discovered the Cellar back in '96, but you guys would have met a much more immature kid back then. Still, the history of the Cellar is something that's pretty amazing. We should definitely keep it going and keep archives, if only to look back and laugh once in a while. I know that the actual technical stuff is yours, Tony, and you run it - but I say "we" 'cause I know that I'd do whatever it took to keep the Cellar going, and I think a lot of people here would do the same. Here are my predictions for the next 18 months: -I will eventually be top poster -Sycamore will get jealous and deliver unto me one of his famed beatdowns -The Cellar will continue to evolve -We'll hit the 1,000 user mark So yeah. Archive that, and we'll laugh at it next July. :) |
I don't know if everyone noticed where I got the original post in this thread.
WayBackMachine It's fun to check out other sites, too. |

*laughz. I spose everything posted on here is kept in the database, would be intersting to every now and then dig up a random thread and laugh at ourselves. |
Another very interesting thread--it's even titled appropriately!
|
