Hi Everyone! :o

xoxoxoBruce 09-05-2005 08:37 AM

Hi Julie, welcome to the Cellar.
Nice to have another member in the CT contingent.

itsjulie 09-05-2005 11:10 AM

Welcome!

So that's how you spell Connecticut.

Izzat because it connects NY and RI?

itsjulie 09-05-2005 02:42 PM

You got it Wolf!

So tell me where phili burbs is? Philli?

wolf 09-05-2005 03:03 PM

I just mean suburbs outside of Philadelphia.

I prefer not to get more specific than that.

itsjulie 09-05-2005 03:32 PM

Right, got it now. You wouldn't want any crazy people tracking you down, down in philly town. :mg:

lumberjim 09-05-2005 09:27 PM

er...yeah. it usually works the other way around, ironically enough.

welcome, julie. how many fingers am i holding up?

lumberjim 09-05-2005 09:27 PM

i guess my sig line isn't universally appropriate, is it?

wolf 09-05-2005 09:29 PM

It's rather amusing in conjunction with your user title.

rawr. i hadn;t put them in that order....figuratively or literally for that matter. but thanks for pointing it out. garsh

Elspode 09-05-2005 09:57 PM

A man your age should have really gotten off that gender confusion fence by now, LJ.

Welcome, Itsjulie! Don't mind Lumberjim. He actually does a passable "Its Raining Men", and looks stunning in gold lame'.

How many fingers, or dicks? :p

itsjulie 09-06-2005 06:45 AM

And I hate used to hate to say dick, but you have now cured me of that!

Undertoad 09-06-2005 07:49 AM

The net is a rude place by default. You never know what you may see in the next click. Dick is rather, um, small by comparison.

wolf 09-06-2005 10:44 AM

Especially Lumberjim's.

Cyclefrance 09-06-2005 11:34 AM

We Brits prefer the longer version.... Richard.

wolf 09-06-2005 11:42 AM

I thought you called it "John Thomas".

Cyclefrance 09-06-2005 11:44 AM

Sorry, Itsjulie, very rude of moi, I didn't say hello and welcome.

Look forward to seeing your commentary and contributions on a regular basis. You'll recognise me straight away, I'm the one that types with the English accent. Toodle-pip old girl, don'tcha know!

BigV 09-06-2005 01:13 PM

Oh good grief. Welcome itsjulie. You've apparently give the locals a good reason to exercise their playful sides. It's a nice diversion from the rest of the flaming, name calling, serious, navel gazing going on elsewhere in the cellar. Good to have you aboard.

We certainly do, but it's so enriching to have a choice of words that suit different occasions and social strata. The old John Thomas, or 'JT', as it sometimes gets shortened to (sounds a painful process I know) tends to be used more in working class circles, while Richard is definitely aristocratic level as in 'Jolly good to see you Giles, old boy, been busy with the Richard of late?'
Then there are other derivatives - 'the old man' (as the description implies, more for the senior citizens), 'the todger' (upper middle class), 'the hampton' (more cockney slang - see a cockney visibly cringe and withdraw at the mention of 'Hampton Court' - you can actually see his eyes start to water), and then there are those with a trans-atlantic influence, such as ' the one-eyed trouser snake' (although, on second thoughts, that may have an Australian background). I am sure I can remember a few more given time, but it's all too easy to turn keen interest into dedicated boredom if you dwell too much on a subject, so I'll leave it there. Sorry about this Itsjulie, but you'll get used to the way written words of individuals seldom stay long with the original subject matter. Deviation is rife in the Cellar!

itsjulie 09-06-2005 04:32 PM

Thanks everyone and deviation is great.

I'll add a name to the old johnson- Chiquita. ;)
