Good stuff you learned on the Cellar
 

Last winter, jinx straightened me out on accepting gifts graciously. I prefer not to have much stuff around, except books, and have always resented the after-holiday clutter. From here on out though I'll try to take the stuff in the spirit it is given. (Not that I'll actually keep any of it)

I've learned that you can discover a lot about people from their reaction to things you say to them, or to people around them. for instance, when you ridicule or compliment someone for something you percieve about them in a public forum, some of the people that witness it internalize that too. collateral damage, as it were, for those who see a similarity in themselves to what you are addressing.

and everyone has learned how versatile and funny the word 'cock' is, right?

I learned that there is an outlet for all the sarcastic, obnoxious comments I've learned for the sake of self-preservation to not actually say in meatspace.

Going back many, many years, I also first heard about something called Linux on The Cellar. And I learned very early that no matter how obscure, esoteric, uncommon, or perverted (or some combination of the above) something is, there's an online interest group devoted to it.

And, it's so obvious it goes without saying, I learned what a whale penis looks like.

If A dumps on B and I dump on A, it could be because;
1- I agree with B.
2- I disagree with A but not necessarily agree with B.
3- I don't have a view (yeah right :rolleyes: ) but feel A's attack was unwarranted.
4- I made the mistake of thinking A's post should be logical.
5- I've misinterpreted what A and/or B meant because I've formed an opinion of who A and/or B are and what they stand for.

There's always a danger of reading into a post more than was intended, especially if it was posted by one of us schizos.

edit- I almost forgot, 6- I think A shops at Walmart. :lol:

I just learned that here on the Cellar. :cool:

I learned that there is more than one intelligent, thinking American out there!

I was encouraged at the number of intelligent thinking American people here when I found this forum. And it was just about when I was convinced that no Americans thought or cared anymore....it's a great thing!

It's good to "converse with" like minded people,,,,,and with not-like-minded people that I'm sure I'd like!

I learned about how this is like real time/place/face relations and how it is not. It continues to be fascinating.

Tony learned me what a "blog" was a few years back. I'd never heard of it.

I learned about the coolness of Longwood Gardens from a Rich post.

I learned that Bruce has a heart as full as his doodad storage areas and can always fit more.

I learned more about bikes and bought a nice one! tip o'the cap to Griff and Co for inspiration.

I thought of another one....I learned that you can (or at least Mr. Monkey can) make amazing things from just scotchtape and sharpie markers.

I've learned that, no matter how fucked one's real life may be, if you can describe it in eloquent enough terms, someone will relate to it, and when the dust has cleared...

I've learned that if life keeps you out of the cellar for awhile, you end up missing a lot of interesting stuff.

I learned how to spell Barak. But it did not result in useful information. (Hopefully the house is not haunted by a lurker.)

I was dead for a time, but it went away. Just like that rash.

I still read stuff here occasionally, but what time I have to write, I spend on my own site these days. Two jobs and an involving hobby = not enough time for some of the good stuff in life.
