you have got to be kidding me...

wolf 12-07-2005 12:58 AM

A friend of mine might want one of those for her teenage daughter ...

[conspiracy]I tell you, they're just trying to normalize the whole we know where you are every minute thing and before you know it you'll be lining up to have one of these bastards injected into your adipose tissue. This is all part of that whole EZpass Onstar RFID thing[/reality]

seakdivers 12-07-2005 11:12 AM

Wolf - I want one for my teenage daughter.... but it's got to be equipped with a "shock" feature if I feel she's getting too far away.

Troubleshooter 12-07-2005 12:55 PM

Define too far away...

Is this for real,? whatever happend to using a dog lead...

seakdivers 12-07-2005 05:01 PM

Grant - you are correct.

Maybe the solution is to put the shock collar on the boy. hmmm.....

busterb 12-07-2005 05:21 PM

Something like this was on CNN this am, you can even call your dog. WTF

Cyclefrance 12-08-2005 11:06 AM

Although sounds very interesting - all that technology working for you - ultimately it's a case of Ok, yes, interesting, but what does it actually do for me? The dog/pet still wanders, and all I know is that he has gone and where he has gone to. It's an 'after the horse has bolted' solution when you really want one that keeps the gate shut in the first place - and you have that already with the Invisible Fence products. We have had one of those both for current dog and the one he superseded and they work fine, are very reliable and don't cost a lot to buy initially or to maintain.

Sounds like another Sinclair C5 - amazing application of technology but delivers very little benefits over what's already available. Has to fail.....

He wouldn't notice it as long as he was erect.

zippyt 12-09-2005 08:13 PM

He wouldn't notice it as long as he was erect.

THAT all depends where the shock collar is attached !!!!!!!   :mg: :mg: ;)

wolf 12-09-2005 08:39 PM

Some people pay for that.

seakdivers 12-09-2005 09:45 PM

Ouch!!

richlevy 12-10-2005 10:56 AM

That would complement the pet locator chip, which is an injectable RFID capsule the size of a grain of rice.

BTW, what is the range of those chips? I would imagine they would be helpful for individuals who are afraid of kidnappings overseas if they could be picked up at a longer range.

seakdivers 12-10-2005 12:02 PM

Two of my cats have those microchip things. The pound we got them from (in another town) puts them in all of the pets they adopt out. It's really handy here in Sitka where neither the vet or the shelter have a scanner to read them. :)

xoxoxoBruce 12-10-2005 10:06 PM

What? CSI doesn't have one? ;)

seakdivers 12-11-2005 12:11 PM

Nope. He's not set up to do cat scans.

Jordon 01-04-2006 12:47 PM

Microchipping pets can save their lives. I'd wouldn't mind a GPS device for myself so I can tell where the hell I am when I'm ripped.

FloridaDragon 01-04-2006 09:52 PM

I would love one of these for our darned cat Bosley ... he loves being outside (as in outside the screened pool area) ... but if you take your eye of him for one NANOSECOND, the little sh*t sprints around the corner and finds a bush to hide under ... then he slowly comandos himself away under cover.

Give me one with the shock option so I can make him give his position away when I get close.
