Today I had lunch with Sundae's Mum. Here are a couple of pictures we took during the day. Sundae's Mum took more, so I'm sure once she gets home you'll see more pics. :)

It was a really lovely day. We had Yum Cha for lunch which was nice, and I picked out another little pressy to send home for you Sundae. :)

I loved the gifts you sent for me and the upcoming midget. lol I especially loved the Queen and Phillip masks. Very funny!

simply awesome!

send her over to Philly next!

Aliantha 06-12-2012 01:23 AM

I'm not sure if she has plans for that UT. lol We had a really lovely time though. I was a bit nervous that we might run out of things to talk about, but not even close. I think we could have kept on chatting for hours more, and believe it or not, we didn't even hardly talk about Sundae or family stuff at all! We just chatted about general stuff about this and that. It was a really pleasant day. :)

I'm glad you had a good time, and she looks really happy.

I was trying to find something Jubilee-y which wasn't too heavy, did not involve food (obviously, due to strict Australian quarantine laws) and didn't make the assumption that you are a big fan of the Monarchy.

I was delighted when I saw those!

When I got them to the couner the cashier said to me, "Are you going to be Queen for the day?" and I explained I was sending to Australia she was quite impressed. I said, "I expect my friend and her husband will wear them as they jump around the bedroom"

"Is that what you'd do?"

"No," sez I, "but I'd wear one while doing the hoovering naked!"

I was quite tickled by this exchange (which I think probably made her day too) which almost took my mind off the fact that a member of Marks & Spencers staff had been rude to me 10 minutes before. I'm still cross about that now. I should have complained about her and then taken her job! I mean I was more polite to staff when I worked in Asda, let alone speaking to someone like that in M&S!

Nice thread Aliantha. Needs more nakey hoovering pics tho.

Glad you all had a good time!

Printed the off the pics for Dads.
He doesmiss her.
Cheers babba!

Also I couldn't work out why Mum was talking about Yum Cha when she'd obviously had Dim Sum by her description and the photos!
So I Googled it.
Of course she was correct (no doubt hearing it from you).

For those who don't know, Yum Cha is the meal/ the experience. Like having a Sunday Roast, even though many parts of the meal are not roasted and the experience is more about sitting down together. Dim Sum is the food or individual dishes. A term I have never heard here, although I've been out for Dim Sum in London in restaurants which had 70%+ Chinese customers.

It's a melting pot, baby... we pick up different terms in different places.

I had never been to Yum Cha till last Friday when a friend of mine took me to a restaurant for lunch for my birthday. I found that particular place served very salty food.

the one we went to yesterday was in Chinatown, so a lot more authentic I think. Most of the other diners were Asian, so I guess that says something. It wasn't salty at all. in fact, at one stage I was thinking about adding salt, but then decided against it. Obviously I'm hard to keep happy!

I hope your Mum enjoyed the lunch. I know she really wanted more of the fried type foods that she was saying are more popular as far as chinese dining goes in the UK, but most of the stuff we had was steamed, which I liked personally, because my tolerance for fried stuff is pretty low atm. I think she really enjoyed the custard tart at the end though. I know I did. lol

Great pix! Thanks for sharing with us your lunch with Sundae's mom. She sounds like a wonderful person. By the way, BOTH of you look great in the pictures. :D

ZenGum 06-13-2012 04:07 AM

What? No barbied prawns???? Crikey!

;)

Looks like a great day. Thanks for sharing.

Sundae 06-13-2012 10:11 AM

No, I admit she turned her nose up at my steamed Dim Sum in the past. There is nowhere to eat it round here, but M&S occasionally carry individual servings.
But she's open for trying new things (she loved Yo Sushi after all) and she will have enjoyed it as an experience.

She'll have been stuffed with Thai food by the time she comes home too.
Apparently that is the family's take-away of choice.

I've no doubt she'll manage a few snags and shrimps too before she comes back to indoor eating.

She should get some really nice food in Stanthorpe this weekend. I'm envious of her getting to spend a weekend there. I suggested she try to take a winery tour cause she'll probably meet some really nice people, and get pissed, and try some great wine while she's at it! :)
