You know those deer crossing signs?

How do the deer know to cross there?

Well it turns out these guys in Redmond Washington know.

Sounds like they don't, if you read the article. Seems like they should put the bridge in a place where deer are actually being hit.

Pa could use one between Valley Forge Park and the VF service stop on the pa turnpike. There is almost always a pink smear on the road there.

The cougars all voted in favor of the new bridge and the funneling fences.
Male cougars have agreed to round up on the west side, female cougars will cover the east side.
No gay or black cougars would be permitted to hunt within 2 miles of the bridge.

There were many arguments over the height of the side-fences,
but it was unanimous that luscious deer-food plantings on the bridge
would be maintained by the Washington Dept of Transportation.

If they put wildlife crossings up in Montana the custom grill guard industry would collapse and that would obviously be unacceptable. :yelgreedy

But seriously, there's evidence that bears, mountain lions and ungulates (moose/deer/elk) will learn to use bridges/tunnels.

I haven't had luck finding the article I read that had tons of pictures, but here's something relevant: http://www.montana.edu/news/12062/ms...hway-crossings

I first saw these things in France in the 80's. It was amazing. And I understand they really work. Doesn't take long for the animals to find and use them.

I think you've got the cart before the horse. They put them where the deer cross in the first place.

it's in a location to the east of Microsoft's main campus. The area moving east from the campus is very lush with open space and stands of trees. The road in question is heavily traveled every day, one of only two main arteries from the eastern areas where people live to the centers of commerce to the west. the deer bridge is only a part of a larger road improvement package. Here are the coordinates for the location of the overpass 47.698931,-122.030339 I can't easily find a way to make a direct link to google maps, but if you enter those coordinates in the maps search box, it will take you to the right spot.

here's another link to the larger road improvement project.

Yet another teacher has been shot and killed.

Attachment 45794

Teacher Unions should go on strike for "hazard pay" just to be a teacher.

sexobon 10-24-2013 12:04 AM

I'm sorry to hear that; but, teachers aren't supposed to be using the deer crossings.

xoxoxoBruce 10-24-2013 10:30 AM

And another teacher was carved up with a box cutter in MA.

Lamplighter 10-24-2013 11:44 AM

Yes, we need to add a Part B to the 2nd Amendment, to protect the Right to Own box cutters.

lumberjim 10-24-2013 02:02 PM

Box cutters don't kill people. Boxes kill people. Wait, actually, boxes create people. Nevermind.

BigV 10-24-2013 03:03 PM

I think the boxes hold people, it's getting stabbed in the box that creates the people, amirite?
