The Climb by Miley Cyrus
Oh no!! I didn't post a link? Heavens to betsy. Well, you know how to use YT search, don't you? |
Quote:
No, I don't. If I did, I wouldn't type Miley Cyrus into it. |
A very worthy cover of Nat King Cole's classic L-O-V-E:
It is worth watching and listening to the whole thing, even the thank yous at the end. She is so cute and charming, never mawkish. Enjoy! |

If I am wrong in thinking that your thinking this, I humbly apologize. Though, I do wonder if you've ever heard this particular song. |

No, I haven't heard the song, and I could be wrong. I'm not impressed with mass-marketed pop stars in general. I'm less impressed with her father. My nieces love her. I'm a bit older than they are. ;) |

And among my favs:
A video. The original MTV version sucked ass, but this is a nice one that makes the point.: A link to the original video. It was an anti-war song or at least a song about the horrors of war that so many of our young men and women are coming home experiencing. Sit back a moment and take it in. Imagine yourself.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zePch4zHLMs The music And of course another great rendition: Apacolyptica! |

I daresay if I went back through this thread I may find some Divine Comedy. Posted a long time ago :P But anyway:
I'm revisiting The Divine Comedy. It's essentially one man plus whichever music collaborators he is working with at any one time, with a couple of recurring faces. he writes the lyrics and pretty much all the music. I love this man's voice. I also think he is one of Britain's best songwriters. I know, I shouldn't do this. But forgive an obsessive her obsessions. I feel somewhat compelled to give you something of the flavour of this singer. So...I have posted several different songs ... starting with something quite jaunty. Then going for a different tone. Becoming More Like Alfie (I really like Neil's guitar playing at the end of this one as well) Songs of Love When the Lights Go Out All Over Europe (the opening strains of the violins put a shiver down my spine on this. Another change of pace and a whole other set of references) And finally....(unless another wave of obsession hits, in which case you have my permission to slap me...) The Certainty of Chance: |
Incidentally. Just occurred to me. Most people would probably know The Divine Comedy (even if they havent clocked the name) mainly through the theme tune to Father Ted.

You allow YouTube videos now?
Gee, where have I been? :mg: |
|
I love that last one!
John Simm as The Master...awesome. As a companion piece I offer this little entry: I Can't Decide (Whether you Should live or die). Scissor Sister's track, used beautifully in Sound of Drums: |
Ok, I love Metallica but this is just freaky.

Weird Al does a production-perfect Doors homage. Manzarek on keys.

First 2 minutes of THIS are interesting - the rest of it is Toto's "Africa" song that is not among my top 2 million favorite songs of all time.
I thought I was doing the video posting thing right, but I guess not. I tried. Old dogs, new tricks, etc. :( |
I've had this stuck in my head for hours. |
I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned that I fucking :heartpump Jack White...

Carter USM - Say It With Flowers
Old tune, old concert, still love it. If you like it, check out their others - they are wonderfully witty. The Taking of Pelham was on TV the other day, and I went round humming Carter's Taking of Peckham all day (Peckam is a London suburb and my Nan used to live there). Other titles include 24 Minutes to Tulse Hill and The Only Living Boy in New Cross (again, both London addresses). They were more than their punning though. Their best known (here, anyway) was a polemic about slum landlords. From the same concert I believe. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Sheriff Fatman. Jump around. |
From the year 1973, the heaviest shit ever.
|
Great! if you want to slam your head against a brick wall. Repeatedly.
|
|
Ok that was funny as hell.... :D

the tapping guy
I don't know if this is "good music" but...
...it's like a Terry Bozzio drum solo played on a guitar. I've been watching this guy's videos for ½ an hour now. |
I love when musicians play something other than drums, but were "raised" on the percussionist style. It's pretty cool. Thanks Flint.
|
Rediscovered this thread.
Fucking hell. LOVE Carter USM This isn't really a video, it's just there to represent the sound. But crikey me, it is wonderful. It reminded me (at the time) how beautiful Neil Tennant's voice was. And how raw Carter were, but how fucking powerful. It might not seem like anything now. But they moved something inside of me that I called a soul. |
Seemings as how I grew up around this area this is only fitting.

It was Merc that posted the tapping guy--thanks Merc!
I just found a Bozzio solo from 1999 that was only released on VHS. This is the kit he played the very first time I saw one of his free clinics at Guitar Center. Oh my God! This changed my life. ... This solo, unlike Bozzio's other melodic/harmonic, shifting time-signature, ostinato-based "drumset orchestra" pieces, is basically just a bad-ass, "linear" groove. Edit: Embedding is disabled in these videos. Here is a link that cuts to the grand finale, after which he looks just like Bruce Lee after kicking fifty dude's asses. |
