Every single one of these is a painting, not a photograph, painted in a hyperrealistic style by Tjalf Sparnaay.

That is not at all realistic. Your burger never looks like that!

Seriously, though, amazing skill.

Now recipes.... whoah...

The Japanese love to show the food they will be serving to you. I love going to Japantown just to look at the food.

Sometimes the food is pictured in the menu or on the wall or doorway, but sometimes they have plastic (?) models made of their food.

Some of it looks good enough to eat: (@0:44)

CaliMama, in Japan, almost every restaurant has a window display with wax models of their dishes. It makes it much easier for foreigners who can't speak Japanese. Pop out your mobile phone, take a photo of what you want, go inside, show the waitress, and if you're fancy, add "kore o kudasai" - "please give me this".

And no, I never had some smart alec waiter bring me the wax model from the window. Sadly.

Those all look great but the par-fey(sp) looks... wrong somehow. Like 2d mushed into 3d.

Mr. Clod says he thinks there are a fair number of illiterate old people still around as well, at least in the rural areas.
