Dying of laughter?

Apparently people can and do die of laughter. I find this rather hard to believe, but that's what the following news snippet claims:

Quote:

It appears that people can and do die of laughter. The 3rd century BCE philosopher Chrysippus, for example, is said to have laughed himself to death while watching the antics of a drunken donkey; and in 1410, Martin I of Aragon succumbed to a combination of indigestion and uncontrollable laughter. More recently, a UK man died of heart failure after laughing for 25 minutes at a TV show featuring a Scotsman in a kilt battling a vicious black pudding.

I was told by a British subject that this was MUCH more funny in 1975.

So, was that Tim Brooke-Taylor in all the segments, or was that Graeme Garden in blackface? Wondering mainly because of the glasses.

MPFC vs. the Blancmange was funnier.

I think that was Garden in blackface, and he was also the Australian.

My older sister nearly tickled me to death when I was five (she was 12) - they all thought it was a great laugh but I was nearly killed and I told them so. The family jokes about it to this day! /disgruntled/

anyway - I'm going to send this to her as proof. so there.

Patch Adams is going to be disappointed.

Just watched the Youtube clip again-still funny (even with the sound down) in spite of the appalling stereotypes.

A good hearty laugh involves actions similar to vagal maneuvers, which are used to steady an arrhythmia. So yes, it is entirely possible to die from laughter, provided there is an underlying condition.

However, such a person is even more likely to suffer a heart attack from standing up too quickly, or lifting a heavy load. At that point it's just a matter of time.

Well, it's more considerate to do your kegel exercises instead.
