In the 5th grade geography bee, when in doubt, the answer is Ontario. (Or Lake Ontario.) She encountered 3 different questions with that as the answer.

My little girl, asleep at the computer. Well, she had a busy day...see some of her handiwork below.

That is too cute Flint. We should all embrace our days so completely.

My swimmers both dropped time in the 50 breast in the Junior Olympics yesterday. Hector came 13th after being seeded 22nd, and Hebe took bronze and missed a state cut by less than half a second. They did good. :)

Nice work!

Excellent, Monster!

This was a good weekend for proud parents in my house.

My 2nd grade son had his final game of the indoor soccer season. His team finished the season undefeated. They play soccer together at recess every day at school so are light years ahead of their opponents at passing to each other and staying in position on the field. It's a little embarrassing going to the games, because it's so lopsided.

And my 5th grade daughter went to a chess tournament at the U.S. Chess Center on Saturday and won both her games, earning two points for her school's team.

Medals all round this weekend for the beestmonsterlets -even Thor who, at first, got DQd and then reinstated so came in 8th in the IM. His first high position in an individual event -he dropped 50 seconds off his time from last year.. hebe took 3rd in the breast by a whisker of a second from the top two, Hector took 5th in the IM. They mostly placed in the points in all their other events too.

First dive meet of the year tonight -two firsts and a third for the beestmonsterlets -unexpectedly awesome. :D

And I forgot to mention that Thor -one of the youngest thirdgraders was runner up in 3rd/4th grade spelling bee, and the girl who beat him was the one who came second to him in the classroom preliminaries  No great surprise to me, though -he has that sort of a brain. Although I didn't hear about it until way after the event -he forgot to tell me and invite me to the final

My 3yo daughter spelled the word "germs" and drew a picture of a mean germ, and of a boy with a germ on his hand.

..you might want to provide some more interesting bathroom reading in future, though. The soap label can get tiresom after a while.

MY GIRL ROCKS!

Not only did she blow the rest of the 11-12 girls out of the water in the breaststroke -finishing half a length before #2, she beat all the 11/12 boys, all the 13/14 girls, all but one of the 13/14 boys and all the 15-17 girls. By several seconds. That's 58 kids her age and older.Only one 14yo boy was faster by half a second, and the four 15-17yo boys by 2-3 seconds. They're like fully grown men swimming for their high school teams, damnit!

:D
