I'm a Christian

I call myself a Christian even though I haven't been to a church in 60 years except for weddings and funerals.
I despise the racism and bigotry people are doing in the name of Christ. I believe he would bitch slap them if he were here.
I also dislike the staunch atheists saying you can't prove it when they can't disprove it either.
This is faith not science, and should not be in government. The constitution says so.

Anyway, a very smart woman recommended an autobiography written by an 89 year old woman who explains it beautifully.

My born again experience was physical, a full on body rush I cannot deny it. God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit are very real to me. My atheist friends all think that I'm weird, but we love each other anyway.

Jordan Peterson has fucked me up. I claim to not be religious. He would claim that I'm deeply religious and deeply Christian.

Impossible, I say. I don't believe in the divine resurrection. I don't believe in metaphysical miracles. I don't believe in a located Heaven and a located Hell. I believe these are all inventions of mankind.

But Peterson points out that Jesus is a representation of what we should be aiming at: a "divine hero archetype" showing us how to be, how to act; and actually being effective whether we believe in his divinity or not. Pretty powerful mojo. Since we are western, Jesus is within us, and has deeply changed us, regardless of what we believe of the myth.

The power of Christ is that He implored humanity to reach for higher levels. And we have done; and it is Good. And when we do, we become divine and immortal. We have concern for future generations of us, more than we do for ourselves. We create their future. And so we are God.

We are certainly Gods to the people of 2000 years ago. We extend our own lives, we become harder better faster stronger, we defeat suffering, we create amazing beauty that we can magically summon on demand. But we can only do it because all the humans before us believed in reaching for higher levels.

So yes: I am a Christian. I believe in the transformative power of Christ. The divine individual is nothing short of the salvation of humanity. It IS a miracle.

I was raised in the Christian church and considered myself a Christian until at age 17 I stumbled onto a book on the Holocaust on the shelves of my local public library. Way back then the New Mexico school I attended didn't teach about the Holocaust, so I was completely stunned. I did not understand how a loving Christian God could allow such a thing to happen. And of course, all manner of atrocities and horrors happened prior to the Holocaust and after. If there is a God, he's asleep at the wheel and can't be bothered to wake up.

As far as the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament, I still feel that they are strong guides to lead a spiritual life and they give meaning to my day to day existence.

In my 20's I discovered Buddhism and its message of compassion toward all touched me deeply - especially treating all sentient beings with compassion - even one's enemies.I try to do this but of course I fall short constantly. Still, it gives me a spiritual path (as opposed to a religious one) that I can aspire to follow.

I do believe that there is some sort of "Intelligence of the Universe" - for lack of a better term - and I have had some very profound spiritual experiences which showed me that there is more on heaven and earth that my small intelligence can even dream of.

Yes, Jesus said love thy neighbor as thyself.
That's all you gotta know, even if somebody a different color, religion, political party, or roots for the Patriots, buys the house next door.

I'm always looking for ladies divine and immoral.;)

The Jesus Christ I know and love would not bitch-slap someone.

I don't think.

Step into the Sonlight, it feels good.

Well, I left the Church but apparently am still a Christian and a Buddhist and every other positive piece of our crazy human culture... I'd say that's good.

I read this last night.
“There shines forth fleetingly the ever threatened truth that each and every man, on the foundation of his own sufferings and joys, builds for all.” -Camus
